Chapter 13 - Apology

Dimitri’s POV

I woke up the next day and picked up my phone, I shot the text I had written last night to Ava and hit send and place it back down.  We can still be friends, and I will miss her terribly, but I will no longer have a relationship with any female unless she is my fated mate.  I enter the kitchen and both Alpha’s are already up with Alexander.  I smile at them both and kiss Alex on the top of his head, I chuckle, “you sure love your Momma’s pancakes,” he smiles at me with a mouthful.

Christov’s hand cups my shoulder, “you okay, brother?”

I nod, “I’m good,” I glance at Abigail who smiles, and I nod, “I sent Ava a text this morning, wishing her well and hoping we can still stay friends, since I hope she stays in touch.”

Abigail smiles, “she intends too, but she's waited her entire life for her fated mate." 

I shake my head, “I know, like I said I’m good,” I look at Christov, “one and done guy right here, until I meet my fated mate.”

Abi chuckles, “good to know, and that needs to be at their places, not our home.”

I pick up my to go cup and nod, “noted, so I assume Gabe is otherwise busy today and will not be joining me in training this morning,” I chuckle.

Abi smiles as Christov wraps his arms around her waist and kisses her cheek, “that’s a safe assumption, it’s a good thing tomorrow is Sunday, or you’d have 2 days without him.” 

I arch a brow, “good to know, I’ll get 2 days off when I find and mark my mate then,” I walk to the foyer and hear giggling and look up the stairs to see Gabe and Teresa coming down them. 

I smile up at them and hold up my cup, “good morning,” I look at Teresa, “sorry about missing your party but...”

She cuts me off, “no worries, Gamma Dimitri, but you do owe my little sister a big apology.”

I scrunch my brows at her as she lands in front of me, “my little sister, Brooklyn was devasted  you didn’t dance with her and Gabe stood in for you,” she smiles adoringly at her mate and I feel a pang of hurt in my chest.

My smile falters and Gabe arches a brow, “she was fine Dimi, really I had her giggling and danced with her.”

I nod and turn, “I’ll make sure to apologize, I don’t want her to ever think I would hurt her intentionally.”  I walk out of the pack house, and I hear Gabe’s voice, “don’t do that to him, he takes it to heart, he loves all these pups Teresa.”

He’s not wrong, it bothers me that I let one of them down and hurt them, that’s not who I am, I don’t hurt pups.  I shake it off and get to the training ground, I begin by telling them that Gamma Gabe found his mate and will address that on his own at the next training.  They all are happy for him and smile, we start our training, which for some reason I’m more ruthless today and give them harder exercises and additional sparing and throw myself into the mix, maybe this Ava thing is bothering me more than I thought.

I head to my office and begin the patrol schedules and set up for next week’s warrior training and get a text from Ava, “thank you for being so understanding. I will always cherish our friendship and hold you dearly in my heart, but I am truly happy, and Killian is a wonderful man.  I am sure you will love him when we return in a few weeks to gather all my belongings.  Your fated is out there Dimi and I just know that when you find her, she will be the most beautiful she-wolf you have ever seen, and you will love her deeply and never let her go.”

I put the phone down without responding, there’s nothing left to say to her, she is someone else’s mate, and she sounds as if she is already in love with him.  I chuckle as the memory of our first meeting plays in my mind.  Her baring her canines at me as I held her to my chest, with Alpha Abigail, how she told me off without a hint fear and later how she moaned as I pinned her against the alley wall and devoured her lips and finger fucked her.  I chuckled to myself, she was a handful then and she always will be.

I walk up the pack house stairs and open the door and hear all kinds of laughter coming from almost everywhere and know that Teresa’s family is now in the house.  I turn and run outside and pick some flowers quickly and rush back in, I go to the family lounge first and there she is, sitting on the floor with Sofia and Alexander. 

I smile and walk over, “hi,”  Sofia looks up at me and smiles.  Brooklyn, however, doesn’t, she continues to play with Alexander as they build something with his blocks.

I clear my throat, “hello Brooklyn, are you not speaking to me today?”

Brooklyn shrugs and continues to play with Alexander, “here Alex, use this one, it will fit better,” she says as she hands a big blue Lego block to him.

I nod and swallow a chuckle, this little pup is going to be difficult when it comes to accepting apologies, I see I will have to work for this.  I sit on the floor next to her and wiggle the flowers in front of her, “these are for you, I’m truly sorry for yesterday, I wasn’t thinking right.”

She bows her head looking at the floor, “it’s fine, Gamma Gabe danced with me,” she shrugs, “I know I’m smaller than all the others, weaker, it’s really okay, I know you really didn’t want to anyway, so you didn’t.” 

I sit up straight as she hands Alexander another block and Sofia swats at her arm, “Brook stop, he didn’t say any of that to you.”

Brooklyn looks at her, and Sofia pales, but she speaks to me, “why did you leave me standing there with my hand reaching for you and turn your back on me and walk away?”

I lay the flowers down next to her, “it was an adult issue that was happening, and Ava found her mate last night.”

She nods, “you love her and wanted her for your mate, and you feel pain over that,” she moves her sight from Sofia to look at the flowers, Sofia stands and runs from the room screaming for her Momma.   She shakes her head, “you love her don’t you.” she tilts her face up to me and her eyes flicker from red to dark blue. 

I shook my head, “no, we are friends and now she’s found her mate and will be happy.”

She nods, “thanks for the flowers, but I don’t need or want anyone’s pity, especially yours.”
