“Grace!” I immediately rushed to catch her in my arms as she passed out. I pulled up my heavy arms, dragging these chains across the room as I lightly tapped her face. “What’s wrong with her? She looked lively a minute ago. Why’d she suddenly faint? Is this also part of having a fever?”

“Unfortunately, no,” the nurse replied as she drew her chair closer to us. “It started out as a regular fever but I don't know what to make of this. Once she wakes up, she collapses the next second. Her skin is becoming pale and light every passing minute. There’s a drug I’ll give you that might lessen her suffering but I can't guarantee that she’ll recover, Damon. She might never recover.”

I didn’t need to hear all of this nonsense. I immediately picked up Grace and left for her room. Mine had been destroyed so I couldn’t go there.
