Amelia’s POV

My right hand was shaking so violently I couldn't even get the key into the ignition.

I slammed the driver’s side door of my sedan, shut out the roaring storm, and collapsed against the leather seat. My chest heaved with fast, ragged gasps. The quiet interior of my car smelled like cold rain and damp wool, but all I could focus on was the burning, electric sting in the palm of my right hand.

I raised my shaking fingers into the dim light of the dashboard.

My palm was stark red.

Amelia’s POVMy right hand was shaking so violently I couldn't even get the key into the ignition.I slammed the driver’s side door of my sedan, shut out the roaring storm, and collapsed against the leather seat. My chest heaved with fast, ragged gasps. The quiet interior of my car smelled like cold rain and damp wool, but all I could focus on was the burning, electric sting in the palm of my right hand.I raised my shaking fingers into the dim light of the dashboard. My palm was stark red."Oh, God," I choked out, a sudden, violent sob tearing out of my throat. "Oh, God, what did I do? What did I just do?!"Tears burst from my eyes, hot and blinding, spilling down my cheeks as I stared at my own hand in absolute, suffocating horror. In twenty-three years, I had never laid a finger on my little sister. Not when we were kids fighting over clothes, not when our dad died and the whole world fell apart, not ever. I was the older sister. I was supposed to protect her. I was supposed to kee

Nina’s POVRoman pulled the phone away from his ear, setting it back on the nightstand with a slow, deliberate click."What did she say?" I choked out, my chest so tight I could barely force the air through my throat. "Roman, tell me!"Roman looked at me, his dark eyes surprisingly steady, his jaw rigid. "It wasn't about us. It was about Monday morning's board agenda. She wants the final proxy briefing on her desk by seven tomorrow. She knows nothing, Nillie."A sudden wave of dizzying relief washed over me, but it was instantly swallowed by a far worse, suffocating wave of pure guilt. Victoria didn't know. But Amelia did. And that was a thousand times worse. Before I could say another word, my own phone vibrated violently against the bedsheets.I scrambled to grab it, my heart hammering against my ribs. The glowing screen didn't show Amelia's name. It showed MOM.My thumb shook as I swiped the green button and held it to my ear. "M-Mom?""Nina," Mom's voice came through the speaker,

  • Dear EX   Chapter 50: “WTF is going on here”

Nina’s POVMy heart stopped beating. The sound of the front deadbolt clicking open vibrated through my apartment like an explosion."Nillie? Sweetie, I brought you some homemade soup!"Roman’s entire body went rock-hard above me. In a single, fraction-of-a-second blur of lightning-fast motion, he grabbed the heavy velvet blanket and threw it over my head and shoulders, using his broad, bare back as an impenetrable shield to cover my body completely.STEP. STEP. STEP.Amelia’s soft footsteps rounded the corner of the short hallway, coming straight into my bedroom."I tried calling your phone first, but—"Amelia stopped dead in her tracks in the doorway. The silence that hit the room was suffocating, heavy, and deadlier than a loaded gun.Sitting on the edge of the hardwood floor directly in front of the doorway was Roman’s dark designer belt, his silk tie, his unbuttoned white dress shirt, and his leather dress shoes. Beside the nightstand lay my discarded sleep shirt and my panties.A

Nina’s POVThe rain kept falling, soft and silver against the bedroom glass, and Roman didn’t take his eyes off me. Not once. Not even when he set his empty coffee mug down on the nightstand with that quiet click that somehow felt louder than the storm outside.“You’re still flushed,” he said, his voice low, rough around the edges from sleep. His thumb traced the curve of my jaw, feather-light. “Does anything hurt?”“No,” I whispered, and it was the truth. “I feel… awake. Like the fever burned everything away and left something new under my skin.”His mouth curved, slow and dangerous. “Something new?”I nodded, my fingers curling into the open collar of his shirt. The linen was warm from his body, and I could feel the steady thrum of his pulse beneath it. The air between us shifted—charged, heavy, inevitable. He looked at my lips, then back up to my eyes, asking without words.I pulled him down.He came willingly, his mouth meeting mine in a kiss that started soft, almost reverent, bu

Nina’s POVThe soft, steady patter of Saturday morning rain tapped against my bedroom glass.I woke up buried under a fortress of heavy velvet blankets, my body wrapped completely in Roman’s warm, solid arms. The burning fever that had wrecked me yesterday had finally broken, leaving behind a faint, lingering ache and a sudden, massive appetite.Roman stirred behind me, his chest expanding against my back. His arm tightened around my waist, pulling me a fraction of an inch closer, his deep, sleepy voice rumbling against the nape of my neck."How's your head, Nillie?" Roman rasped, his lips pressing a soft, lingering kiss right behind my ear."Much better," I murmured, turning around in his arms to look up at his handsome face. His dark hair was messy, his jaw shadowed with dark stubble, but his eyes were wide awake and glowing with protective warmth. "Your fever medicine actually worked.""Good," Roman smiled faintly, his thumb gently stroking my cheek. "Because you're staying in this

Nina’s POVThe rest of the morning at Blake HQ passed in a blur of cold sweat and breathless terror.Every time the second hand ticked on my computer monitor, my heart slammed against my ribs. It was 11:00 AM. Then 12:00 PM. Then 1:00 PM.In just sixty minutes, Victoria's private chauffeur was going to deliver the raw, uncorrupted master drive straight to her top-floor office, and the entire executive board would watch the digital lab unblur my face live on the master screen.I sat at my cubicle desk, my hands trembling as I tried to type out press summaries. I looked over toward Roman's glass office at the end of the hall. He was standing by his desk, towering and silent, taking back-to-back phone calls while Ethan leaned against his bookshelf, typing frantically on his black laptop. Then, at exactly 1:30 PM—thirty minutes before my life was scheduled to blow up—every single news terminal on the thirty-eighth floor flashed bright green.BREAKING NEWS: BLAKE GROUP ACQUIRES SOLE GLOBAL
