“It’s a standard issue when you’re in my position,” Blake said, still sitting with Susan, Helen, and Mr. Wheaton.

“Blake, why don’t we place our tables together?” Claire said, noticing that Blake didn’t come to their table after everyone had left.

“Sure, let’s do that,” Blake said and had the waiters move the tables around for them. After everyone was settled, Blake was sitting between Susan and Claire.

Everyone greeted everyone, and small talk commenced, but every so often, glances toward Blake by the women around him would be noticed by Claire.

“Blake, why did you let the Carlson family off with a warning? With the power of the family, it would be easy for you to have destroyed them as well.” Mr. Wheaton asked over his meal.

“It’s better to have allies that enemies. I could indeed have destroyed their family, and then there would have been a void that needed to be filled. The family is now in a precarious position with what the men did tonight, and I can use that to my advantage.” B
