•Vera POV•

I shifted on the bed and turned to the other side but felt the warmth of a body beside me. My eyes snapped open immediately, and I saw Eric sitting close to me on the bed.

I blinked twice, trying to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. His shoulders were slumped, his hands resting on his thighs like he had been sitting there for a long time.

“How are you feeling now, my love?” Eric asked, softly.

I pushed myself up slowly, the blanket sliding down my waist. “Eric… what are you doing here?” My voice came out weak, still thick with sleep.

Eric shifted closer and took my hand. I wanted to pull my hand away from his, but when I saw the tired look on his face, I stopped.

“I’m sorry, my love,” he mumbled. “I know I should have told you about Brooke. I’m sorry. I didn’t know my mother would bring her into the house, and I promise you won’t have issues with my mom ever again.

I looked at Eric, noticing the dark bags beneath his eyes, obvious signs that he hadn’t slept well.
