"The beta requests your presence on the pack training grounds," the Messenger announced, barging into the kitchen. The other maids looked at me and snickered.

"Tell him I'm on my way. I'm doing something at the moment," I said, calmly. The guard was about to say something but I glared at him forcing him to obey my command. He nodded then turned around to leave.

"Sarah, won't you go to answer the beta? You know he's in a bad mood. He just had another disagreement with the Alpha," Amy asked.

"I'll go to him once I'm done with my work. The young lady of the house would have my head if I don't finish quickly. My father would just have to wait," I answered as I went back to scrubbing the cup.

"Be careful though. He's fuming," Amy said, turning away. Seconds after she said that, a loud boom echoed through the kitchen. The maids and I straightened as fear enveloped us. Had something happened? Were we under attack?

"Sarah!" The beta's voice boomed through the kitchen. Within seconds, he had sent me flying into the wall. Nobody bothered to stop him as he unbuckled his belt. I knew what was coming next. The first strike hit me across the shoulder and I didn't so much as flinch.

"I sent for you and you had the guts to tell me to wait? Since when did you get so much courage?" He asked as he hit me again.

"Your first daughter had sent me on an errand so I had to do that first, sir," I replied. My father chuckled as he gave me three more strikes.

"This should teach you not to try that again. Do not be as useless as your mother," he spat, turning away. Something in me broke and all I could see was red.

"You should learn to speak well of the dead, Father. And for your information, the only useless person here is you and your entire family," I told him as rage consumed me. I was nothing but a lowly Omega but if somebody decided to speak ill of my mother I would have to talk back. No matter who it was. He turned around with the speed of light and the next thing that greeted me was his palm connecting to my cheek.

"Respect your elders. Your mother must have failed to teach you that before she died," he said. "As punishment, you'll decorate the event center all alone. The Alpha's son wants to announce his chosen tonight," he said.

My shoulders shook as the tears rolled down my eyes. The other maids just looked at me; some with contempt and others with pity.

"She deserves it, she should have known not to mess with the Beta," one of the maids, Lis, whispered. Amy came to my side with a first aid box.

"Don't listen to them and let me take care of your wounds," she said, opening the box. I shook my head as I stood up slowly.

"I'm going to prepare the event center," I told her. I limped out of the kitchen and went to the servant quarters to take a quick shower. When I came out, I saw a little box on my bed. On it was a note that read,

'Wear this tonight. I have a surprise for you.'

I knew who the gift was from and I probably had a small suspicion about what the surprise was. Would Daniel announce me as his Luna to be tonight?

I'd arranged the event center as per my preferences and I was proud of how it looked. I had spent hours here and was still working when some of the guests started trooping in but thank God I finished a while back. The event was officially starting and I had worn the dress Daniel had sent me.

It was a green sequined dress. It had a sweetheart neckline and was backless. I found it quite exposing but I guess this is what Daniel likes.

"Testing mic 1, 2, 3," Daniel said into the microphone. I smiled when I saw him on the stage. I was sitting at the table behind the Beta and his daughter and I noticed her smiling at him too. That was strange.

"As most of you know, I will be announcing my mate tonight. Before that I just want to say a few words about her," he began. His eyes roamed around a bit before colliding with mine. He smirked and I blushed a bit.

"My mate is extremely beautiful both in and out. She is an angel. My mate has the prettiest smile a person could have. She is extremely humble too," he said, stepping down from the stage. He began to move in my direction but the funny thing was he wasn't looking directly at me. I waited for him to reach my side but he stopped just ahead. In front of my sister.

"My mate is none other than Ruth Whitlock, Beta Matthews legitimate daughter," he said as the spotlight landed on both of them. Ruth stood up and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him deeply.

"What?" I whispered, in shock.

"I know, the sight of them is just disgusting," a deep male voice said into my ear. I felt a cold palm on the small of my back and I took my eyes away from Ruth and Daniel only to meet the eyes of the one man I'd searched high and low for.

"Nikolai Mezzeselma, nice to meet you."
