Chapter Eight

Axel PoV

No matter how much I played it over in my head, I still couldn't figure out how the girl escaped. I've always been careful. I had even gone the extra mile of acquiring a silver collar, which was extremely scarce and expensive. I always ensured the silver collar stayed on her neck, then how could she possibly escape? There was only one explanation.

"Someone helped her escape," I fumed as anger boiled within me, “and I was going to find this person.”

I didn't work so hard to become Alpha only to have an errant wolf in my pack undermine my authority. If they could have the audacity to go behind my back to release the slave, then what was next? Mutiny? Challenging me? Or desertion?

The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. A few weeks ago, I could have sworn that all the wolves in my pack feared and respected me so much that they would happily lay down their lives for me. Now, things have changed, and that only meant one thing.

"They need to fear me," I growled.
