I tried to stop mum from going in. I tried telling her that Dad was busy, but she just gave me that look. The one that said she would beat my arse if I tried to stop her. Ivy tugged me out the way as she tucked her curls behind her ears.

Even when we hear her scream, Ivy’s fingers stay glued to mine, holding me in place.

“She needs to see it.”

I look into her brilliant blue eyes as she smiles at me. “How do you know so much?”

“How do you not?” She laughs, shaking out her mane of curls. “The moment I understood that I was different, I left to find others like me.”

“You left? Left where?”

“The pack I was in. White Star.”

I hadn’t ever heard of it, but then my family didn’t really talk about other packs.

“The Alpha was here, for your parents' ceremony.” She adds, her eyes not quite meeting mine.

“What about your parents?”

“I was hoping you wouldn’t ask about them.”

“They must be worried, mum hates it if I’m anywhere but in the pack.”

She sucks in her cheeks. “Mum died giving birth
