Se connecterCrystal's POV
"And by the way, it's Kieran. No need to be so formal now." He adds with a teasing wink.
I want to die. My face is a ball of flames. I swallow hard, my heart pounding so violently against my ribcage I'm afraid it might burst out.
Am I perhaps ovulating?
Or why the hell is my body reacting to this man in the strangest possible way?
It's like a wildfire licking through my veins, consuming every rational thought, one I can't control, no matter how hard I try.
But I use every ounce of self-control I have left and push him off.
"This is a work environment," I hiss, my voice shaking with both anger and arousal.
"We're expected to act professional, not you fawning over me like some horny teenager. I came here for an interview. For that only."
He tilts his head, studying me like I'm a puzzle he can't quite solve. There's curiosity in his eyes now, mixed with suspicion.
"And what about our previous deal?" he asks, his voice slow and his gaze suspicious. "When is it taking effect?"
My brain reels.
Deal? What the hell is he talking about? What deal?
Wait! He must have had a deal with Lyra, but I know nothing about it.
Worse still, it's too late to try to convince him that I'm not Lyra. And even if I succeed in convincing him, how will that help me get this job?
I erase the look of confusion on my face and keep my expression neutral. If what it takes to get this job is to pretend to be Lyra, then I'm down.
"Well, about the agreement," I start, keeping my voice casual. "I changed my mind."
Kieran scoffs, the sound dripping with disbelief. "I don't think so. What about your father in the hospital at Dark Hollow Pack? And the surgery bills you have to settle?"
My stomach drops violently. Father? Hospital? Dark Hollow Pack?
What the hell is this Lyra girl into?
"We already had a deal," he continues, his voice hardening. "And you can't back down now. You already got half of the money I promised. Are you sure you want to forfeit the remaining five hundred thousand dollars?"
Five hundred thousand dollars?
My mind spins, struggling to process the astronomical amount. That's exactly the kind of money I need.
Shit! Even more than I need, actually.
I could hire a lawyer to finalize my divorce with Ethan. I could get a place of my own, start my career fully, without depending on anyone.
But what the hell is this deal? What did Lyra agree to? What if I agree only to find out it's something dangerous?
Nah. Things could get messy. Really, really messy.
And seriously, where the hell did this Lyra girl disappear to?
"I'll sort myself out," I tell him, choosing my words carefully. "I no longer need your help."
He looks at me like I've completely lost my mind. Like I just said, that's the most ridiculous thing he's ever heard.
"You're delusional," he says coldly, his expression shifting into something darker and more dangerous. "Isn't it ironic? You don't need my help, yet you came to me for a job."
He shoves his hands into his pockets, striding back to his desk
"Forget about the job then if you don't want to accept the deal."
My heart sinks to my feet. No! No! No!
"And here's the thing, Lyra," he's speaking again. "You could refuse the deal, but you'll have to pay me back the money I already gave you. Every single cent. And even after that, I'll continue to hunt you down and make your life a living hell."
His tone is calm, almost soothing. But the threat is crystal clear, brooking no arguments.
I can't believe I'm about to get punished for a deal I know nothing about
I have to act fast. I can't let that happen. I can't afford to make an enemy of someone like him.
Plus, I badly need him to give me this job.
Okay, Crystal. Let's focus on the good side. The deal might not even be that ba,d and five hundred thousand?
Oh man!
"Wait, what was the deal again?" The words escape my lips before I can stop them.
Kieran's brows knit together, confusion and amusement flickering in his dark eyes.
"Did you hit your head on the ground? You've been acting all kinds of strange. Who forgets such an important deal?"
"Just kidding." I force out a laugh, trying to sound natural.
"Why would I even break our deal? Of course, the deal will take effect whenever you want. Now, can we get this interview done?"
Kieran studies me skeptically for a moment longer than normal, the heat of his gaze burning my skin.
"And why would I need to interview my soon-to-be wife before giving her a job?"
My eyes almost pop out of their sockets, my brain running into a frenzy
"What?"
He laughs, the low rumble echoing in my chest.
"You don't need an interview, Lyra. As long as we're getting married, you can take any job position you want in any of my companies."
Kieran POV What’s he doing here? I never knew Alaric would show up again. He wants to be everywhere I am, trying to create a fuss that no one is seeing. I knew Lyra was worried when she saw him because he’s the reason why she left that day, but I was surprised when she held my hand and danced with me. Lyra acted like he wasn’t there, and I was the only one. She danced more than before. It felt like she had mastered every step I taught her back in my office. I didn’t even realize that everyone had stopped dancing and focused their attention on us. When the music stopped, I looked into her eyes and planted a kiss on her lips before turning around to see Valeria and her father sitting at the place reserved for them. “Now that’s what we call a dance that will be remembered. You did well at your first trial, Lyra.” My father praised her. “This is my second trial. He showed me the steps, and I copied them. It’s simple logic, nothing to be worried about.” I pulled out the seat for her
Crystal POV “Let’s have a glass of wine. What’s a party without wine?”“But we’re not at the event yet; we’re still home.”“I’ve got nothing to worry about since I’m not the one driving.” He downed everything in his cup before going out of the house.I didn’t take a sip out of the glass he gave me; I dropped it back on the table and followed him. By the time I got into the back of the SUV, his father strolled out of the house. “Where is Valeria?”“I have someone filling in her position for now, Father. Let’s go; we’re running late. This is a family friend occasion, and we have to be present throughout every process.” I heard every word he said to his father because he left the door open to respond to him. He got in and planted a kiss on my cheek. “You look absolutely stunning. They only added extra because you’re so pretty.” He turned to his phone, and there was a message from his supposed wife, Valeria. WE SHOULD ATTEND THE BIRTHDAY OCCASION TOGETHER. WHAT COLOR OF DRESS SHOULD
Crystal POVOpening my eyes and feeling the warmth of his arms around me is the best feeling ever. He waited for me to wake up before he stood up from the bed because I could see how he wrapped me in his left arm and used his right hand to press his phone.“You’re awake, my princess. How’s your sleep?” He chuckled as he dropped his phone and then picked up something from the other side of the bed that was unknown to me. “A flower, a small note written by me, and an outfit for the occasion today.” He dropped the box between us and handed the letter and the flower to me. “What occasion?” I imagined the last time I ever received a gift from a man. Ethan only gave me little things while we were dating, but the moment we got married, it felt like the whole game had changed. He treated me like I was a burden to him. I feel so relieved that I don’t have to be in his shoes anymore. “There’s a birthday celebration. The Eastwood Pack has a new heir, and his wife just conceived a male cub, w
Kieran POV She threw her hands at me, but I held them in the air and pushed her back down, showing how weak her defense was. She even attacked without holding herself down. “You need to sit down and listen to me. You’re a member of this family. You’re a Blackwood, so act like i.!” My dominant voice sent her to the right door. She wanted to be far away from me. “I don’t know why you did what you did. You took out my SIM card and tossed my phone. Come on, who does that to a wife? If I were the wife and I did this to your phone, what would you do?” She sobbed as she showed me both hands; she folded them into fists, but she knew better than to hit me. I’d make her look weaker than before; I might even try to snap her hand a bit. “You don’t know how to throw punches, which means you don’t even know how to defend yourself. There’s a lot you need to learn, Lyra, and I’d get you a new phone before you wake up tomorrow morning. Are you hungry?”“Don’t ask me a question you know the answe
Kieran POV“Take us to a spot where you’re sure there would be no reporters. I just want to have a meal and head back home. Do you understand that?” I leaned my back on the leather seats, trying to get a hang of everything that was happening. I don’t like the fact that my father compared Valeria to my mother. That’s a lady I don’t even see myself sharing a bed with anymore. She’s more like old news to me. I hate her, but she doesn’t know that, and my father, on the other hand, thinks that I’d get married to her to seal the deal between both packs. My phone vibrated inside of me, bringing me back to reality. I was surprised to see a text from Lyra. Lyra never texts, so why is she texting me now?I DONT KNOW WHY IM DOING THIS BUT I NEED TO APOLOGIZE FOR RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU. THE ATTENTION WAS INTENSE, AND IT SCARED MEI read the text that she sent to me,e and I asked myself;“Why would she be apologizing to me? Lyra never texts. Is she safe? What if someone is hurting her and using h
Kieran POV“How are you doing, Kieran?” I was shocked to see Alpha Alaric standing between me and my convoy. I was shocked to see Alpha Alaric standing here; the last time I saw him was about a decade ago. “What do you want?” I asked him, knowing that he was here because of the deal we had ten years ago. I wonder why he’d show up like this. The last time I heard about him was when he was locked up in prison. “We should talk about the money you owe me.”“I don’t owe you.”“Alright then. I’m around, and you know what happens when you don’t give me what I want.” He marched out with his men and got into his convoy. I wondered why he showed up today of all days. If he wanted money, he would have contacted anyone at the office, but doing this would only get me pissed. “She should have stayed with me. Why did she disappear like that?”“I think she’s not used to the cameras and attention that you’re getting.”“This isn’t the first time, so why is she running away?” I looked at my chief gu
