Betty’s POV

I had wished that the past would remain hidden. I had hoped that hiding away in this small seaside village, changing my name, and getting out of the metropolis would keep me safe.

However, I was mistaken.

It all began when I first spotted Larry standing in the resort lobby, his towering body obstructing the sun, his keen eyes searching the area like a predator. My heart stopped beating. He located me.

It got worse when he saw Liam.

Although it wasn't the name he used to know me by, Larry's strong voice cried out, "Betty."

Or ought I to say... Megan? "

I went cold. I gripped Liam's little fingers with shaking hands. Innocently, he was playing with his toy car, not realizing the impending storm.

I made an effort to speak steadily.

"Larry, what do you want? Why are you here?”

He clenched his jaw. He approached me till I could smell his cologne—the same one that used to make me shaky. All it did now was make me sick.

Whose kid is he? With a knife-sharp voice, he demanded. He looked at me and then at Liam.

"Tell me, Megan," he said. Who is the father of the boy? "

I gave Liam a closer hug. I was certain Larry could hear my heart beating so loudly.

"It’s irrelevant. He is my son. That's all you need to know.”

Larry slammed his fist against the table next to me and yelled, "Don't play games with me, Betty."

People in the lobby looked at us, but I could see he was having a hard time controlling his anger. He resembles me. The same eyes. The same hair.”

His voice came almost like a whisper, “Is he mine?"

With tears in my eyes, I shook my head frantically in defence, "No... no.. no, you don't own him. Larry, just Leave us alone.”

However, I knew deep down that I couldn't keep the facts a secret forever. Larry looked at me for a brief moment, his eyes softened, then hardened once again.

"I'll find out myself if you won't tell me."

He then bounded out of the resort, leaving me frightened and trembling. The days that followed were agony. I hardly ate or slept. My chest felt heavy, the hurt, the guilt, all at once.

I watched Liam sleep peacefully. "What happens if he takes you from me?” Liam slept peacefully with his tiny hand nestled against my chest. "Baby, I can't let you go. You are mine, everything I have...is you. All I have is you. However, Larry was a man who consistently achieved his goals. I also knew he wouldn't give up, and so would I.

I heard him talking to the resort employees one day. He was seductive, slick, and frighteningly intelligent. When I discovered what he was doing, my heart fell.

A DNA test. He had somehow obtained one of Liam's mugs. I nearly passed out when my knees began to weaken.

I whispered to myself, "Ooh…no, no, no, he can’t know, can’t ever know.”

However, it was too late. I roamed the tiny flat like a bird in a cage that night. I couldn't stop the shouting in my head.

"How about if he is granted custody? What if I have nothing left after he takes Liam? What happens if Vivienne discovers? "

I felt like the walls were closing in on me.

One afternoon, I watched her beautiful black automobile pull up outside the resort. When she stepped out wearing her overpriced heels, and her sly smile, my blood froze up.

She knocked on my door, I opened the door, and her poisonous voice greeted me, "Hello, Megan, uhmm, Betty?, or whatever you're calling yourself these days."

She forced her way in when I attempted to close the door. "Don't bother wasting your time. I know Everything Damien informed me already.”

She smiled broadly. “How could you be so stupid? I paid you enough to erase yourself.”

I held Liam tight. "Please, Vivienne, we don’t want any trouble.” She lets out a hideous, icy laugh.

"Oh, I won't be leaving. When Larry learns that you concealed his son from him, do you think he will forgive you? No. He will despise you and I'll be there to make sure he takes these little bastards from you.”

As her words took hold, my entire body trembled. Her aroma choked me as she drew closer.

“What do you mean? Vivvan, it was your idea!”

“Well.. that is your own story, it is your word against mine. Who do you think Larry is going to believe? His wife or his one-night stand?”

And there go the ground-breaking, heart-shattering blades. Classic Vivian. The most terrifying moment arrived sooner than I had anticipated. She storms out with a satisfying smile.

Larry was standing there when I opened my door two days later. His face was pale. In his hand was an envelope.

I recognized it right away. I nodded my head frantically as I whispered his name. "Larry..." but he interrupted.

“Don't..’ He spoke in a low, shaking voice,

"Don't say a word." He pushed the papers in my face, the DNA test results

MEGAN'S POVI didn’t go to the police. I didn’t go to the FBI. In this city, the official channels are just another layer of the bureaucracy my father and his associates have been grease-padding for thirty years. If I wanted Megan and Liam back tonight, I couldn’t wait for a warrant to be signed by a judge who probably plays golf with my board members.I was back in the mobile command unit, the air thick with the smell of cold coffee and the hum of high-end servers. Marcus was standing over a tech named Miller, who was bypassing encryption layers like he was tearing through tissue paper."The video was a mistake," I said, staring at the frozen frame of Megan’s face on the monitor. "They thought it would discourage me. They thought I’d be too busy reeling from the 'heartbreak' to look at the plumbing of the file.""They used a triple-bounce proxy," Miller muttered, his eyes reflected in the blue light of the screen. "But they got cocky. They used a proprietary compression algorithm

  • HER BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET SON.   Chapter 54

Megan's povThe heavy steel door didn't just close; it felt like it sealed the air out of the room.I was back on the cold concrete, my fingernails torn and bleeding from the struggle. Ten minutes. I’d had ten minutes of freedom. I had made it two hallways down, following the sound of a muffled cartoon playing on a tablet, and I had seen him. Liam was sitting on a rug in a room that looked like an office, surrounded by brand-new toys that felt like insults.I’d almost reached him. I’d whispered his name, and his face had lit up with a hope that nearly broke me. But then a hand had clamped over my mouth, and Julian’s voice had hissed in my ear about how "clumsy" I was. Now, I was back in the box. But I wasn't alone.Vivienne stood by the door, her silk trench coat looking absurdly out of place against the grime of the warehouse. she was holding a small, designer clutch in one hand and a glass of amber liquid in the other. She looked like she was at a gallery opening, not a kidnapp

  • HER BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET SON.   Chapter 52

MEGAN'S POVThe fluorescent light above me flickered with a rhythmic, dying buzz that felt like it was drilling directly into my skull. I didn't know how many hours it had been since the man with the gray eyes had left the room with his silver phone and his cold smiles. All I knew was that the silence was worse than the shouting. The silence meant they were busy doing something else, something to Liam.I sat on the floor, staring at the heavy steel door. My hands were shaking, but I forced them still. I had to be the person I was before the mansions and the emeralds. I had to be the girl who could fix a broken industrial mixer with a paperclip and a prayer.I looked down at the floor. It was mostly bare, but near the corner where the brick met the concrete, I saw a glint of something thin and dark. I scrambled over, my fingernails scraping the grit, and pulled it out.An industrial staple. Thick, heavy-duty, and slightly rusted. It wasn't a lockpick. It wasn't even close. But it

Megan's povI stood there in the flickering light, the cold floor beneath my feet, and realized that for all my talk of independence, I had never been more helpless. I had run away from a cage, only to find myself in a trap. And as the man held up the camera, I knew that whatever happened next, the world I knew was gone forever.Larry's povI stood in the center of the mobile command unit, a blacked-out van idling two blocks away from the Trent Club, and watched the video for the fourteenth time. The screen of my phone was cracked from when I’d gripped it too hard, a jagged line running through Megan’s face. In the video, she looked pale, her hair a mess, standing against a featureless gray wall. Her voice was steady, but it was the kind of steady that only comes from someone holding their breath so they don't scream."Larry, don't come for us," she said on the loop. "I realized I can't do this. I can't live in your world. I’ve taken Liam and we’re going somewhere you can't find

  • HER BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET SON.   Chapter 51

MEGAN'S POVThe silence in the room was so heavy I could hear the blood rushing in my ears. It was a dull, rhythmic thrumming that made it impossible to tell how much time had passed. Minutes? Hours? The fluorescent light above me didn't flicker according to a clock; it just hummed, a constant, irritating reminder that I was trapped in a box where the sun didn't reach.I sat with my back against the brick wall, my knees pulled up to my chin. I was trying to breathe slowly, the way I used to when the bakery got too busy and the orders were backing up, but the air here was different. It felt recycled, like it had been sitting in these lungs for years before it got to mine.Larry. Every time I thought his name, a fresh wave of guilt hit me. I’d been so determined to prove I could do it alone. I’d wanted to show him that I didn’t need his security, his money, or his "nicer pens." And now, because of that pride, I was here. I didn’t even know where "here" was. Then I heard it.It star

  • HER BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET SON.   Chapter 50

LARRY'S POVI stood in the center of the motel room, and for the first time in my life, I felt the terrifying weight of being too late. The room was a gut-punch. It was a cramped, miserable square of cheap carpet and peeling wallpaper that smelled of stale cigarettes and industrial cleaner. This is where she had been. While I was sitting in my library surrounded by leather-bound books and high-end security monitors, the woman I loved was huddling in a place that charged by the night and didn't even have a deadbolt that fit the frame."Sir," Marcus said, his voice unusually tight. He was standing by the small, bolted-down dresser. He held up a plastic dinosaur, a bright green triceratops with a scuffed horn.I took it from him. The plastic was cold, but the sight of it made my chest tighten until I could barely breathe. Liam didn't go anywhere without this. He’d had it at the cabin. He’d had it in the nursery. If this was here, they hadn't checked out. They hadn't moved to another
