"Sweeeeeet!" Rosie whistled as she took in the interior of her room. The hotel's exterior was magnificent but inside was simply perfection.
Meanwhile, I collapsed on the bed from exhaustion. I hadn't slept much the night before and now the soft fluffy pillows and royalty standard silky sheets had me wanting to take a quick nap with the way they caressed my skin and pampered me tenderly. "What do you think you're doing?" Rosie asked, pulling me out of my fantasy. "I could literally stay here forever." I confessed with a content sigh while snuggling more into the sheets but before I could even get comfortable, Rosie was on me, pulling the covers off. "What the hell Rosie?" I cried in protest. "You can have your silly nap another time but once I get showered and changed, we're going out to have some fun and I mean real fun." I couldn't even believe what I was hearing. "Didn't you just get off a flight?" "Yes and?" "Shouldn't you be like exhausted and extremely jetlagged and needing rest even more so than me?" "Under normal circumstances yes." "And these aren't? Normal circumstances I mean." "Girl, nothing about me is normal okay? And the next time you imply that or something remotely close to that, I'm going to be taking offence. Look at me..." She continued, giving me a full twirl so I could see her properly and I couldn'tgelp but laugh. "...I'm a queen, a diva, elegance extraordinaire. Jet lag has got nothing on me." "Maybe not, but Im no diva and I need my beauty sleep. " "Yes you do." I quirked up thinking that she was agreeing with me but she quickly added, "and you will get your beauty sleep after you spend the day with me." Knowing Rosie, she also meant the night too and I didn't know if I was down for that. "Come on friend, we've not seen each other in like forever..." "So let's stay here and catch up." I offered quickly. "Or let's go out and have a splendid time. We can have all the time to catch up tomorrow and after." "Fine." I agreed with a sigh. it was impossible to argue with Rosie and win so on most days I simply avoided it since it was pointless anyway. "Yaaaay." Rosie exclaimed delightfully "So any suggestions?" "Well, there's a new spot that just opened up downtown. ita called the Eclipse. I've never been but I hear it's the rave these days." "Of course you've never been. " Rosie tsked. "you never do anything fun only work, work, and work." "That's not entirely true." I argued but all it took was one look from Rosie for me to abandon that thought. I mean I could be fun. I am a fun person, I just got really really busy at work that I barely had time for anything else. "Well, thankfully I'm here now so we're going to remedy that." I was a little afraid to think about what Rosie meant by that and I could only hope that her time away in Africa had helped her to tone down some of her extremities. "Oh by the way, I've got nothing to wear." I pointed out. "Dont worry about that. We'll spend the first couple of hours shopping and doing other fun stuff. we can even catch up over lunch. trust me, it'll take a while before we eventually head over to this eclipse place of yours. Rosie wasn't lying when she said it was going to take a while before we got to Eclipse. in fact, by the time we arrived, i realized it was already 10 PM and I wondered where the time always flew to whenever Rosie and I were together. Eclipse was a high end establishment that not just anyone could gain access to so as expected there was a massive crowd at the entrance, an endless line of not so patient people waiting for their turn to get inside, and could anyone really blame them for being impatient? I mean, they had waited for weeks, maybe even months in order to secure a reservation, and even now that they were here, they were being told that they still had to wait some more before they were allowed inside. It was pure and utter chaos outside. people without reservations hovered at the sides, trying to either sweet talk or con their way past those velvet ropes. Of course, It hardly ever worked . The staff at Eclipse weren't amateurs and they had tons of experience with situations like this. Thankfully, Rosie and I didn't have any issues getting in even though we didn't have a reservation. Turns out that eith the right amount of money and the right connections. anything was possible. Once inside, the explosion of light and sound that hit us was almost physical. I squinted my eyes against the neon brilliance, the intensity of everything clouding my senses. The music throbbed through the floor beneath my feet, wrapping around me and caressing my nerves like it had hands. I had been to nightclubs but this...this wasn't a club, it was a spectacle. It was bright and elegant and simply Brilliant. Opulence dropped from every surface, from the diamond-cut chandaliers to the leather booths and glass floors. this place didn't just scream money, it purred smooth and untouchable. I cast a sideways glance at Rosie and her expression seemed to be mirroring mine. She was simply mesmerized Seeing her expression, I knew that we were about to have the time of our lives. it had literally been ages since I did anything fun and I was ready to make up for all that lost time. "Let's get some drinks first. I know I'm in the mood for some shots" Rosie suggested. gesturing towards the bar. But just as I was about to agree, a familiar voice cut through the noise. "Well, well well, who do we have here?." My stomach twisted. I didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was. I'd recognize that voice anywhere. Aaron. On seeing him, Rosie like it up like a Christmas tree. "Aaron!" she squealed, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she all but draped herself on him. "Rosie," he greeted, voice low and smooth. "How wonderful it is too see you. You look gorgeous as always." "Oh please. " Rosie blushed, smacking his arm playfully but coyly. "When did you come into town?" he asked, giving Rosie the attention that she all but craved. "Arrived this morning. Jazz picked me up from the airport." "Did she now?" He asked as his eyes flicked to me, a lazy smirk tugging at his lips. "Yeah she did." Rosie replied, literally hanging on to his every word. Quite frankly, it was a pain to watch. "But enough about us, what brings you here?" Now, she was adjusting her dress to give Aaron a better view of her boobs which were perfect by the way. She was also rubbing his arm in a seductive manner and I wanted to scream at the girl to get a hold of herself even though I knew that it wasn't going to make much of a difference. "Nothing much." He replied casually. "Just the usual, you know, unwinding after a stressful week, blowing up some steam, I'm sure you know a thing or two about that, although I'm not so sure Jasmine over here has the slightest clue. How did you manage to get her fo come here?" "it was a literal struggle, you have no idea." Rosie replied and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "You guys, I'm literally standing right here. Stop talking about me like I'm not here." "Fine." Aaron began, turning.around so he could face me directly. Now that I had his full attention, I felt a little bit of heat creep into my cheeks and I couldn't understand why, then I remembered the dream from last night and the puzzles started to fit perfectly together. I was quick to shove all thoughts of that dream into the deepest darkest and blackest part of my mind because what other choice did I have. "I was telling this beautiful damsel over here..." He paused, allowing Rosie to back in the compliment he had just given her before continuing. The two if them were shameless. "...that I didn’t think I’d ever see you at a place like this, Jasmine. Eclipse doesn’t really seem like your scene — too much fun, not enough spreadsheets." My good mood evaporated instantly, oh right, that happened a while ago. "You really think you are funny don't you?" I shot back bitterly. "Because news flash, you're not." "The world must really be coming to an end if the great and mighty Jasmine is learning how to have fun and chill." From beside me Rosie giggled and I shot her a look that told her she wasnt helping but she only covered her mouth with her hand and continued giggling at my expense. Sometimes, I wondered if she was really my best friend or some weapon fashioned to torment me. "Come on Rosie, let's go." I ordered, but Rosie looked like there was nowhere she would rather be than in Aaron's arms. Disgusting. "Fine." I declared. "I'll just go on my own, and have fun by myself. " "You wouldn't know how to have fun by yourself even if you tried." Aaron Replied, his voice dripping with mockery. I was ready to fire back the perfect retort which was was going to be about how I was going have the best time of my life well on myown, but before I could get any words out, my phone buzzed, and almost immediately Aaron's phone buzzed too. Frowning, I pulled mine out. Aaron did the same. A single message stared back at me, and suddenly the club, the music, the lights — it all disappeared. It was from Aaron’s dad. My stepdad. it read; "I’ve decided to retire. How soon can you get home?" I looked up at Aaron, and his expression mirrored mine, suggesting that he had received the same text I had. confusion, worry, and a bunch of other emotions assaulted me. This was Cleary not how I had seen my night going.Aaron's POVThe auction finally ended at about eleven thirty PM and by the time it was finally time for the gala proper, hundreds of art pieces which were worth hundreds of thousand dollars. The proceedings from the auction was supposed to be used to fund a specialized school for disabled children somewhere in the suburbs and that was the only reason why I even bothered to bid on anything. I hated art or rather, I didn't care much for it other than the aesthetic value to tended to provide. Jasmine also seemed to share a similar view and as far as my knowledge went about her, she didn't know jack about art, but she still ended up coughing up quite a lot of money and I needed no prophecy to tell me that the reason she did it was because she felt bad for those kids and she wanted to help them in any way she possibly could. My Jasmine was kindhearted like that. Her heart was pure and that was only one of the reasons I found her so attractive. I was an asshole on most days but today, I
Aaron's POV"Aaron...Aaron...""Yes? What?"As it turns out, Jasmine had been calling my name for the past few seconds and I hadn't even heard her. I was too busy getting lost in her appearance which was nothing if not divine. She was wearing a lovely red dress that hugged her body in all the right places, accentuating her curves so much so that I found myself getting a little jealous when I thought about the fact that other men were actually going to see her like that, a reaction that annoyed me to no end.Her hair was done in a sophisticated style, gathered upwards towards the crown of her head and most likely secured with lots and lots of bobby pins.Needless to say, she looked absolutely stunning and although I knew it was mostly, if not entirely Rosie's handiwork, the outcome was definitely worth it. I was surprised she even agreed to any of it in the first place. "Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked, smoothing out the front of her dress. "Is it that bad?"It brok
Aaron's POV.I am indeed a mess.Because how else would I explain that stupid shit I pulled earlier. I mean, i had absolutely no reason lie to Jasmine, but like I said, I couldn't really help myself in that moment. Over the years, I had built myself an extra layer of skin, taught myself to keep my distance from her even though all I wanted to do was hold her, be close to her, and never ever leave her.I had learned to engage in stupid arguments and pointless banter with her even though all I wanted was to whisper sweet nothings in her ears and tell her how beautiful she was and by God she had to be the most beautiful thing to ever walk this planet.Jasmine was the absolute love of my life, had been for the last decade at least and i didn't think that was ever going to change, but she hated my guts. I have no clue what I did wrong exactly but the more I tried to get close to her, the more I find out that the only type of conversation she would ever have with me is an argument, an
"Uh, this has to do with me. So I think I have a lot of choices, in fact.""You know what? You're right." She retorted."I am?" I asked, hardly believing my ears. It was indeed a rare occurrence that Rosie and I would agree on anything without us, first of all, getting into a battle of words. "Yes, you're right. You indeed have a lot of choices. But I'm here to make sure that you make the right one. "Okay, I'm not sure I follow." I confessed. Rosie sighed helplessly, looking at me like one would look at a child who didn't know their left from their right. And then, slowly, painstakingly slowly, she walked over to me and placed her hands on my shoulders. "Dream with me." she began, waving at something imaginary on the ceiling. "When you hear a charity gala, what comes to your mind?"" A bunch of snobbish people who have more money than they know what to do with and want to throw it around. Come to think of it, how much of the money actually goes to charity? I mean, there are starv
"I got busted," I cried to Rosie that evening as soon as I got home. I was barely through the door and my keys had scarcely made contact with the counter when I began my rant. Rosie looked at me in confusion, then slowly some sort of realization dawned on her and she gasped. "Look, I love you with everything I've got, but I would not help you hide the body. I refuse to become an accomplice to murdee." Now it was my turn to look at her in confusion. "What body, Rosie? What are you talking about?" She scratched her chin and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, I got a little carried away. But just so we're clear, you didn't kill anybody, right?" "No, no, I didn't kill anybody Rosie, but I think I might...and soon too." I quickly tacked on, suddenly remembering the encounter I had had with Aaron just a couple of hours ago. "One day I'm going to just snap, lose all my control and strangle the very life out of him." Rosie chuckled, "What did Aaron do this time? And if you didn't kill somebod
"I...um...i....""I'm sorry what was that Jazz?" Aaron mocked. "Have you suddenly lost the ability to speak properly or has a cat got your tongue?""No, I can speak perfectly fine. "I replied defensively, trying to sound as unbothered as possible, but somehow, my voice still managed to quaver."And I already told you to stop calling me that.""That is such a pathetic attempt at a topic change." Aaron said in response and despite myself, I couldn't help but agree with him."...But since you're asking so nicely, " He continued. "maybe I can come up with a new nickname for you. So what do you think about spy, or dirty player...or wait I know just the one, snooper.""Look, just stop okay. I made a mistake. But what right do you have to judge me? I mean, it's not as if your methods have been entirely pure.""Oh really? Cuz I don't remember mobilizing any of your staff to spy on you for me.""It wasn't like that...not really. " I replied, my voice small.I hated being caught in the he
"Okay? What do you have in mind? I'll do anything. You know I've had this feeling that Aaron doesn't like me much but if I can get some Intel on what he is working on, maybe I can offer some help that could get me in his good books. " She seemed so eager and I couldn't help but encourage her."My point exactly. I can tell you details on what he is working on and I can even give you the name address of his favorite restaurant so you can get him stress relief meals from there. Trust me he'll love you for it.Nicole seemed almost at the verge of tears now as she took my hands in hers and held it to her chest in gratitude. "How could I ever repay you?""Oh no no. I'm not doing this because I expect anything from you in return. I just really want you to be happy. " I lied and I felt horrible for it. "Although I wouldn't mind receiving a little Intel from time to time on Aaron's progress on the project. ""I...I'm not sure I understand. " she confessed. "Its quite simple actually. So y
Usually, I dreaded Mondays and it was not because I didn't enjoy my work and definitely not because I didn't have a real passion for the job, but after an entire weekend without Aaron, going back into the office on Monday was always a little struggle while knowing fully well that he was going to be an unavoidable presence, ready to ruin my day and spoil my mood like he always does. But this Monday was different. I walked into the office with a skip in my step and a broad smile on my face. I was excited and ready to face the day, feeling positive about everything, because not only had I managed to bag my first client who generously invested five million naira into the company's latest orion project, I also knew that Aaron must have slept through the weekend and hadn't gotten himself any clients yet. And being ahead, being ahead of Aaron in particular, always made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside."Someone woke up on the right side of her bed this morning,' a voice said, and I recog
i was always a morning person, developed that habit un college when I had to keep late nights and still start might day early in order to excel in my studies and although it paid off, I was still a little pissed that Aaron ended up becoming Valedictorian even though he partied and slept his way through college. Deciding that It was too early to ruin my day with thoughts of Aaron, i took a quick shower and went downstairs to prepare a sumptuous breakfast for Rosie. For starters, I knew she was going to be hungover considering how hard she must have partied last night, and I had to make something to make her feel better. Also, it was kind of like a bribe as well, because I know that she wasn't gonna let me get off so easily with leaving her behind at the club.Coffee was already brewing when she finally woke up. "Morning princess." i greeted in a sing song voice. "Morning." She replied, rubbing her eyes, still groouchy from sleep."Sleep well?"Yup." She replied absent mindedly bef
