CHAPTER FIVE

Kory's lips couldn't stop quivering in shock, her expression helped the matter. She's shocked because of two things; one is the sudden fire outbreak of her house, and the other is the appearance of Thane.

‘Why in the hell's name is he here? What is he doing here?’ It runs through her mind as she stared dazzlingly at him.

Kory ogled at him shockingly for almost a full minute. Thane chuckled as he saw the countenance on her face. Of course, he wasn’t expecting her not to get stunned.

“It's not proper for a lady to seat on the bare grass.” Thane said, stretching his hand for her to grab.

Still speechless, she placed her hand on his. Thane pulled her up and she stood. She seemed very shaken by the recent turn of events. Most important, her main focus was on him.

“What are you doing here? Why are you here?” Kory questioned all at once. She can't continue to hid her curiosity. Thane gave out brief laughter.

'What's funny about this situation?' Kory scoffed mentally at him.

“Forgive me for laughing,” Thane said slowly and her eyes widen at him. How can she be so reckless! He's capable of reading her thoughts through the mind-link.

“No… don't apologize. I'm just so shocked that you're here. I mean…” Kory took her attention back to her house.

It's still on fire. She doesn't even have any thoughts of calling the firefighters. It won't be any good for her since all her valuables are completely gone.

She's glad the money she got from Kingsley was deposited into her savings account. If she had placed all her money at home, then she'd have been hopeless.

“My house caught fire unexpectedly. And you showed up unexpectedly without me even giving you my address.” She spoke to him in a soft voice.

Thane went closer to her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, making her look into his eyes.

“It'll be fine, okay. I just happened to be passing by when I caught sight of a blazing house. After I called the fire department, I decided to come have a look-up close.” He explained smoothly.

Kory curved her pouty lips into an' oh'. His explanation does add up to countless things.

“That's so kind of you.” She said with a light smile on her lips.

Thane withdrew his hand. The sound of a siren could be heard as a few fire trucks appeared.

Thane stood with Kory as the fire got put out. She had to watch heartbreaking as the remnants of her home were brought to her.

She's thankful she doesn't have many valuables and yet, she's pained.

Kory got interrogated by the firefighters about the cause of the fire. She had no idea whatsoever that would have resulted to it.

“What should I do now?” Kory muttered inaudibly as she gaped at the burnt ground.

She had to brush past her sorrow and think of the next thing. She definitely needs a place to stay. Should she go to a hotel or what? Even so, she's penniless. A dime isn't on her.

Kory inhaled deeply; she's thoroughly screwed her. She was still thinking about her next line or action when Thane spoke.

She turned to look at him with teary eyes. Thane batted his eyelashes, surprised at the sight of tears. Is she really going to cry?

“So, what are you going to do now?” He still went ahead to ask.

Kory wrapped her arms herself. She's strangely getting cold for some weird reason. She had to sniff back her tears.

“I guess I only have one option. Would you drive me to the bank please?” She requested gently.

“Sure.” Thane led the way. They both walked shortly before arriving at his Lamborghini.

****

“What do you mean I can't withdraw! Why would my account even get froze?” Kory screamed furiously at the bank manager.

She's in his office with Thane, who's seating relatedly on a leather chair.

He accompanied her into the bank. Kory attempted to withdraw all her money, but was told her account got froze.

Kory almost started a commotion, but the bank manager luckily showed up.

He led them into his office. Kory felt the urge to rip off the manager's head from his body. He's saying pure bullshits to her.

Sensing the situation would lead to violence, Thane had to grab hold of Kory's arm. His mere touch was able to calm her down.

“Yelling and threatening him won't get us anywhere, Kory. Calm down.” Thane said mildly to her.

“He better talk reasonably or else…” she shot a hard glare at the manager.

Kory sat next to Thane as the manager cleared his throat.

“You see, Ms Anders, your account can only allocate 50 dollars. You're yet to provide any form of identification to us. You made a bank account online, your BVN wasn't provided. Same with your occupied. Your account got froze due to the excess money allocated into it. It's really not our fault,” The young man said calmly to her.

Kory realized she's in a deep mess. She's definitely in trouble and is positively screwed. She's bankrupt. Kory nearly broke down in tears right there in the office.

Her heart began to ache terribly as she felt her entire life collapsing right in front of her. What is she going to do? Go back to the pack?

No, that isn't an option! She ran away, she won't be able to face the shame if she goes back.

She'll be mocked, taunted and bullied beyond comparison. Even the lowly Omegas would take pleasure in abusing her.

Where would she start from again? She's homeless and penniless!

Kory stood up from the seat. Thane watched her blankly as she dragged her feet out of the office.

He looked at the manager, who's quietly trembling. Thane let out a smirk at him as he stood up. He met Kory leaning against his car, her face staring at the sky sorrowfully.

Her day kept getting worst. She left the pack with an aim to come back stronger.

Her life was going smoothly until today. In a day, she's lost everything. What reason is there for her not to cry!

Kory's wolf couldn't stop whimpering sadly.

“Why? Just why!” Kory whispered to herself bitterly.

Thane's scent filled her nostrils again. She glanced at him shortly and stood up straight.

“I really can't thank you, Thane. You've helped me greatly. I need to leave now…”

“To where exactly ?” He interrupted in an hastened voice.

She made to speak, but no words came. Sadly, she lowered her gaze to the floor. Thane moved closer to her. He lifted her chin with a mere finger.

“Am I permitted to make a suggestion, Kory?”

“Er...sure”

“Why don't you come stay with me?”

“What!” Kory almost yelled, surprisingly.

Is he asking her to come live with him? Thane had already predicted she'll react this way. He took a step backwards and then shrugged his shoulders.

Kory badly wanted to believe she's not hearing properly. 'Don't think hard about it Kory, he's our mate. Remember?' her wolf relayed to her.

Kory still wasn't certain she should go live with him. Won't that make her cheap?

“Kory, I'm not forcing you to come stay with me. I mean, you're quite stranded here. If you come stay with me, then I'll make sure to assist you. I promise. You're my fated mate after all.” Thane explained to her convincingly.

Kory folded her bottom lips as she thought for some time. “Okay. You're really kind and sweet. Why choice do I have?” She gushed cutely agreeing to the suggestion.

Thane went closer to her. Thane cupped her chubby cheeks with his hands. Her lips were twisted into a large smile. Thane leaned in closer as she shut her eyes, expecting the kiss.

Kory felt shivers run down her spine, feeling his lips directly on hers is maddening. Kory attempted to deepen the kiss when Thane pulled away.

He smirked at her and she smiled nervously. Kory cursed herself for trying to kiss him back.

She wants to play hard to get but, she can't resist the sweetness of his lips. He tastes so much like orange.

“Come on, it's past noon. You must be starving.” Thane said as he went over to the other side of the car.

He opened it from the other side. Kory got into the car. She kept stealing glances at him as they drove.

*******

“Where am I! I don't know who you are, but trust me, you'll regret this. You will. I'll fucking make you people pay. You'll regret this!” He kept ranting loudly to the emptiness at the room he was in.

Here in a somewhat Underground basement, in the middle of a dark, dank room, a man was bounded with chains.

The chains cuffed his hands tightly while he stood on his feet. His legs were already asleep due to how long he's been standing.

He's the CEO of the prominent Phantom hive Empire and an infamous trafficker of drugs and human organs.

Life was going normally for him, just like every day until he got into his car. He wasn't spared the chance to turn on his car before he blacked out.

Unknown to him, Lorraine had sedated his car. The instant he blacked out, Lorraine conveyed him into her car.

That's how he ended up here. His memories are still blurry, but he's certain Lord Thane is responsible for his abduction.

Rumour has that Thane is strongly against the abduction of kids. Thane might be a mafia, then again, he'll never do anything to harm the innocent and uninvolved.

He knows he's in a lot of trouble If his reasoning are positive. A bright light appeared as the door got pushed open. Footsteps resonated the air, making the man very more unseasoned.

Lorraine came to stand in front of the man. She had a mean scowl on her face. Behind her, were two hefty men. They each held a long, thick horsewhip.

“Who are you? Just name your price and you'll get it. Just let me be. Let me go unless you'll face the consequences and trust it, it's not rosy at all. Do you hear me! Do you…ahhh!!!” His threats got cut short as a horsewhip landed hard on his rib?

He wriggled in pain, desperately to break free from the chains holding unto him. He could feel his skin getting peeled from that single whip.

Lorraine grinned menacingly. She yanked the whip from one's hand. “Men like you don't deserve to live.” She scowled at him in disdain.

Lorraine lifted the whip high in the air. She began whipping him excessively, large balls of sweat formed on her forehead as she did that.

Minutes passed, the man was drenched In his blood. At his feet, a small pool of his blood was created. He's lost his strength to cry, plead or threat, he's drained.

Lorraine was equally exhausted. She dropped the sneered horsewhip on the floor. “Take him down to the dungeon. Alpha Thane would come take over.” Lorraine instructed.

“Yes Delta!”

Lorraine walked out gingerly. The maids crossed paths with her, scurried away In fear. Lorraine looked freezing and dangerous. She's angry, in fact.

She's angry that Alpha Thane will be bringing Kory in here. Likewise, she hates the girl and now, she'll be living with her.

Lorraine could feel her blood pressure raising at the thought of that. She's infuriated. She's more bitter, seeing she can't do a thing to Kory. The Alpha treats his possessions greedily.

He'll never allow anyone to harm it, expects him. Lorraine went over to the kitchen to get something soothing.

She went over to the refrigerator, grabbed a can of icy water and turned to leave. She stepped into the living room and froze upon setting her eyes on the lady who just stepped in.

The can Lorraine held got twisted by her hand in annoyance. Kory was yet to notice Lorraine.

She's just coming in with her newly bought luggage. Kory inhaled that particular scent and looked up.

“What are you doing here!” Kory yelled disbelievingly at Lorraine, who's glaring daggers at her.

Thane walked in shortly. He didn't seem fazed by the tensed atmosphere.

“Alpha Thane… ?” Lorraine said quietly.

Kory curved her eyebrows confusedly. Did she just hear someone call an Alpha.

Slowly Kory’s eyes turned to Thane, “You're an Alpha?” The question came out shockingly, arresting the whole face of Kory into astonishment.
