Chapter 1

Courtney POV

"Out of my way,get out of the way!" I yelled cursing under my breath

"Hey gal,why did you…."

"Bastard I curse you"voice left and right but that is the least of my problems right now.I have to escape first,i kicked a box out of my way and the dresses in it scattered.

"You! Hey you!"

I turned and saw the guards behind me

"Shit" on norms they would have let me be by now but today they just don't want to give up

I only stole a loaf of bread and beef.I saw an alley and my eyes glistened.

I ran into the alley and hid in a corner,I quickly pulled off the male clothing I was wearing,I changed my shoes and released my hair I tied. I straighten my gown I wore under my male clothing. I took a deep breath and calming walk out of my hiding place

I almost bump into one of the guards

"Girl,do you see any girl in a male's clothing, she's….." he halted and scanned my dressing from head to toe,I flashed him a smile,he looked at me suspiciously

" I did saw a girl,she was in black clothes if I'm right, she was in hurry and went that way"I pointed to the end of alley,

The guard was still staring at me,I gazed back at him.

"I think she went this way truly"one of the guards announced,he must have seen my shoe track.

The guard threw me a last look and went in the direction I pointed.

While I calmly walked out of the alley,I touched my boobs and can still feel the bread,at least I and Reena won't starve.

I hopped home in joy.

"My Lady, did you steal again?" Reena asked glaring at me.

"No,I worked and bought…."

"What sort of work"

"Just this and that" I avoided her gaze,she can see through me

"You stole it right? I told you to stop stealing,I know things are hard but I promise to take care of you,what will your parents think when they……"

"Reenaaaa" I drag the last syllable of her name

"Let's eat,the beef is getting cold"

She groaned and took the bread from me and ate

I looked up at the roof and frown,it might fall any time,there are cracks on the wall,and a small rain might ruined the house

'should I just steal money for repair?I should do that, I don't think I can make money anytime soon'

"My Lady,don't worry,will work and….."

"Reena,we are in this together,I will also work and find something" she smiled,tears threatening to fall out of her eyes.

She hugged me and started sobbing,I sighed I'm too exhausted to cry,crying won't solve anything anyways,I learnt that in a hard way.

Not like crying would put food on the table,it won't even make people help you.

Since I lost my parents to assassins 5 years ago,I faced reality in a hard way.it was a luck i survived. The assassins were to wipe out the whole of our family. They didn't even spare the maids and servants.only I and Reena survived and that was thanks to my mom.

I starved and had nowhere to go,i begged for alms but no one was willingly to help,I cried but what can crying do.that was when I stared pickpocket,from pickpocket I became a heinous their,and that was how we have been surviving,Reena works but the peanuts she earns isn't enough.

"It ok Reena we will be fine,we have always find a way out and I promise tomorrow I will find work to do, I will stop stealing"

"Promise"

"I promise" I promised but I know I will definitely steal again,to make her feel ok.

"Let's eat" I urged her and she wiped her tears and slowly devoured the bread.

Since I promised Reena,I went job hunting,after walking around for half a day,I got tired and sat in front of a shoe shop to rest,finding job is not as easy as it seems,and am not ready to start washing plate or working for noble ladies,they are too pompous and I don't think I can take anyone ordering or treating me anyhow

That was why I was hoping I could be a shop assistant.

I watched as people go and come,noble ladies and even women of low class buying shoes

I was bored and was feeling sleepy. It was easier to steal than to find a job.I was planning to continue my job hunting when I noticed something so I sat down and focused on what I just saw.

'she seems very loaded,imagine bringing all of this money to market' I thought inwardly and can't wait to get my hands on her pouch

She was also a nobel lady, but mere looking at her you can tell her family is very prestigious,she wore very expensive fabric,dolled up in money from head to toe and most importantly she was holding a pouch full of money.

My stealing instinct was telling me not to miss this chance,so I stood up when I saw she finished buying shoes.

"Ahhh!"

I purposely bumped into her

"What the…..watch where you are going you rat" she yelled in disgust.

"I'm sorry my Lady" I bowed and she hissed and walked away in annoyance.

I grinned and felt the pouch in my hands,I bumped into her to snatch it she probably won't notice now.

I looked around and quickly walk away,after walking a distance,I opened the pouch

"Wow!" I gasped for a while. I saw a lot of money,I counted the money and saw it would be enough to repair the roof and buy some food.

I noticed there was paper in the pouch so I opened it to check it out.

"Looks like an Invitation card" I muttered and check the content it reads

"You Are Invited To The Process Of The King's Bride Selection At The Palace.This IV Will Be your Pass.You might not be able to enter the palace without it."

I hissed,it doesn't have any use,but I put it back into the pouch and skipped home happily ,the job hunting has been postponed.
