Mag-log inCHAPTER FIVE
Sophia’s POVBy the time I got back home, my body was alreadu aching me, I had never work so hard like this even when I worked as a cleaner two years ago.
And moreover, seeing Ethan again, hearing his voice, sitting in front of him like nothing had happened between us, it kept playing again and again in my head even when I tried to push it away.
I stood outside the door for a moment before I eventually pushed it open.
The moment I stepped inside, I heard my children laughing. They were already inside, playing and talking like nothing in the world was wrong.
Adrian was with them, he had been staying with us for a long time now, even before we moved here properly, he still came along, saying I should not carry everything alone. He was my older senior who liked me for who I am.
He was sitting with the children in the small living room, helping my son with a puzzle while my daughter sat beside him talking endlessly about something that had happened during the day.
My children saw me and ran toward me immediately. “Mum!”
I bent down and held them for a moment, forcing myself to smile even though my mind was still far away.
“I am fine,” I said quickly before they could even ask anything.
My daughter looked at me closely.
“No mum, You look tired, you are not fine”
“I am okay,” I repeated, touching her hair softly.
My son held my hand. “Did you eat or did the frustrate you?”
I nodded. “Yes, I did eat and no one dare frustrate twins mum”
They smiled…
Adrian stood up slowly and looked at me. “You are late,” he said.
I gave a small nod. “Work,” I replied. “There is too much work now.”
He sighed a little. “You don’t need to push yourself like this,” he said. “I told you before, I can take care of things.”
I shook my head. “No,” I said softly. “You are already doing too much by staying with us. I can’t keep depending on you.”
He did not say anything, my children had already gone inside their room, still laughing and talking to each other.
The house became quiet after my children left the living room.
“They are happy,” he said.
I nodded. “Yes.”
None of us said anything first just then he talked.
“You should not be working like this… If your first day is this tiring, is this how it continue? .”
I exhaled slowly. “I have no choice,” I said. “If I stop, everything will stop.”
He frowned slightly. “You always say that.”
I did not not say anything because he was right.
My phone vibrated inside my bag. I took it out and saw the message again from the company.
‘Come one hour earlier than normal tomorrow’
I stared at it for a moment without speaking.
Adrian noticed immediately.“What is it?” he asked.
I quickly turned the screen away.
“Nothing,” I said. “Just a work notification.”
He studied me for a second like he did not believe it, but he did not push further.
Instead he leaned back slightly. “That job…” he said slowly. “It feels like it is already taking too much from you.”
I gave a small tired smile. “It is just work,” I replied.
But even as I said it, I knew it was not just work anymore.
Chapter 106Sophia's POVBy the time everything at the farmhouse was finally over, the sky had already grown dark because what had felt like the longest day of my life was slowly coming to an end, yet none of us were ready to return home without making sure the children were truly safe.Even though Lexa looked unharmed after the doctors from the emergency response team examined her at the scene, Ethan insisted that all three children should be taken to the hospital for a complete medical examination because he refused to take even the smallest risk with any of them.Nobody argued with him. After everything that had happened, I wanted exactly the same thing. The drive to the hospital was unusually quiet because the children were exhausted after everything they had been through.Lexa had fallen asleep against my shoulder before we even left the farmhouse, while Alex remained unusually silent beside me, his little hand held tightly onto mine as though he was afraid I might disappear if h
Chapter 105Ethan's PovThe evening air had become unusually still as every member of the security team waited silently for my next instruction because nobody wanted to make a single mistake that could place Willy in danger. My eyes never left the screen showing the inside of the farmhouse because Lena continued moving from one room to another, throwing clothes into travelling bags as though she already knew she would not be staying there much longer.Willy remained on the old sofa without saying a word. His small shoulders looked tired. His head remained lowered. The cheerful little boy who laughed so easily had disappeared.Seeing him like that filled me with a mixture of anger and guilt because none of this should ever have happened.I looked away from the screen and turned toward Breed."We only have one chance to do this properly."Breed nodded."I understand.""I do not want anyone firing a weapon unless a child's life is in immediate danger.""It will not happen.""I want every
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND Four Ethan's POVThe sky had already begun turning orange by the time our convoy left the city behind because every minute that passed gave Lena another opportunity to disappear with Willy before we could reach them.Nobody inside the vehicles treated this like an ordinary search because one careless mistake could place an innocent little boy in danger.I sat in the front seat beside Breed while the digital map remained open on the tablet resting between us.The forensic team had narrowed the search to a large rural area several kilometres outside the city, but the location was still wide enough to contain dozens of abandoned buildings.Breed enlarged the map once again before pointing toward several scattered locations."There are three abandoned warehouses.""There are two empty farmhouses.""There is an old factory that has not been used in years.""There is also a storage building near the river."I studied the map without saying anything.Every possibilit
Chapter 103The moment Sophia ended the call with Lena, nobody inside the living room wasted another second because every moment that passed gave Lena another chance to disappear with Willy before we could reach her.Breed was already speaking into his phone while walking toward the door, his voice remained calm, but every instruction came quickly because there was no time to lose."I want every technical officer at the location immediately.""I also want the nearest security team moving there now.""Nobody leaves until every inch of that area has been searched."He ended the call before turning toward me."The trace has already been forwarded.""Good."Within minutes, we were inside the vehicles heading toward the location where Lena had made the call. The journey felt longer than it really was because my thoughts never stopped returning to Willy.I could still picture the smile on his face the last time I had seen him.He had hugged me before leaving and promised that we would go fi
Chapter 102Lena's POVThe small house was quiet except for the sound of the old ceiling fan turning slowly above us because it was hidden at the edge of a small town where nobody knew my name, and that was exactly why I had chosen it.The curtains remained closed even though the afternoon sun was shining outside, while an old television sat silently in one corner of the living room without being switched on because I did not want any unnecessary noise.Everything had gone according to my plan. The police were looking for me.Ethan was sitting inside a police station trying to prove his innocence.Nobody knew where I was.Nobody knew where Willy was.For the first time in a very long time, I felt as though I had regained control.I looked toward the small sofa near the window where Willy was sitting with his knees pulled against his chest, his favorite toy car rested in his hands, but he had not played with it since we arrived. His eyes remained fixed on the closed front door as thoug
Chapter 101Ethan's POVThe hours inside the police station had passed more slowly than any I could remember because although I had remained calm on the outside, my mind had never stopped searching for every possible explanation behind the trap that had been carefully prepared for me.I knew I had been framed. The problem was not convincing myself. The problem was proving it.The interrogation room door finally opened again, and my lawyer walked inside with Breed close behind him while the lead investigator entered a moment later carrying another file beneath his arm.One look at Breed's face told me something had changed. He looked tired after hours of searching, yet there was determination in his eyes that had not been there earlier. The investigator took his seat across from me before placing the new file on the table."I've received the preliminary forensic report," he said calmly. My lawyer folded his hands in front of him."We've already seen it."The investigator nodded."I ass
