MasukCHAPTER Six - Avoid Trouble, Caught In Trouble
Sophia’s POV
To avoid trouble like yesterday, I arrived almost an hour earlier than the normal time because of Ethan’s message, leaving my children’s in Adrain’s care, I don’t need to worry about them, they love him so much and he took care of them like his own children.
The office was still very quiet when I came inside, of course it’s not the time for resumption and most of the staff had not arrived yet, and the few people around were busy with their own work.
I looked around for Ethan, but he was nowhere to be seen, I went to his office and I didn’t see him too.
I sigh, he was the one who told me to come early, yet he was not even here, I knew he was purposely doing all these to me, well, I just needed the salary so bad.
I walked toward my desk and sat down and honestly, I really felt so tired, not only physically but also emotionally, everything about being here was exhausting, I just hope I coped well seeing Ethan every day, pretending my children did not exist around him, pretending I was not still angry.
Pretending that seeing that little boy in his office had not broken something inside me all over again.
I lowered my head and closed my eyes briefly. Just a few minutes, that was all I wanted.
While I was sitting there, a woman’s voice suddenly reached my ears.
“Mrs. Alan Lena”
My eyes opened immediately. Alan?
That was Ethan’s surname and Lena, the name from years ago, that got pregnant for Ethan, that shows they are legally married.
I turned my head so quickly that my neck almost hurt.
A woman was standing some distance away, I could not see her face clearly because several employees were moving around her but I saw a small boy beside her, that must be the boy that entered Ethan’s office that day.
The woman was holding his hand, the little boy looked around happily while talking about something.
So she also worked in his company too, she works here with me?
Then someone smiled and said again, “Mrs. Alan, Camille asked us to send these documents to you.”
The woman nodded, the little boy laughed.
For a moment, everything around me became blurry. I did not even realize I had stood up.
I stared in that direction, trying to see her face properly.m but before I could, they disappeared around the corner, just before I blinked my eyes .
I slowly sat back down on the chair, tightened around the edge of the desk.
Five years, five years of raising two children by myself and now he was acting as if I was the one who destroyed everything.
The sound of footsteps stopped me from thinking, that could be Ethan. I looked up and it was Ethan.
He walked in without even looking at me at first, then his eyes landed on me.
His brows immediately furrowed. “Why are you standing there doing nothing?”
I blinked. “What?”
His face darkened. “I asked why you’re standing there doing nothing.”
I stared at him still confused,
He asks “Nothing?”
“Yes. Nothing.” I continued “There is nothing left for me to do. I finished everything you gave me yesterday.”
He placed a file on the table.“That doesn’t mean you stand around.”
I folded my arms. “Then what exactly am I supposed to do?”
His eyes moved around the office, then he pointed toward a corner. “ Then Clean.”
I thought I heard him wrong. “Clean?”
“Yes.” He nodded
For several seconds, I simply stared at him.“Am I a cleaner?”
His face remained expressionless. “I am your boss”
“And?” I asked, this time I was tired and I don’t care even if he fired.
“And secretaries don’t clean offices? .” His eyes narrowed slightly as he continued “You work for this company.”
I looked more serious now, “I work as a secretary, not as a cleaner, not as a maid here”
Just then, he looked up, “ You do whatever task you’re assigned, if you are tired, then get out”
I could not believe what I was hearing, this man was unbelievable.
“I can’t clean.” The moment the words left my mouth, he nodded once.
“Fine.” He said
Something about that answer made me nervous.
“Fine?” I repeated.
He looked very serious now, “Thousands of dollars deducted from your salary.”
My eyes widened. “What?”
He ignored me. “Failure to obey instructions, wait for deduction from your salary”
I opened my mouth, then closed it.
The amount mentioned was enough to pay several bills, enough to buy things for my children, no! Our children needed, I hated him, I honestly hated him.
“I’ll do it,” I muttered.
“What was that?”
“I said I’ll do it.”
Now he looked satisfied, before leaving, I grabbed the cleaning supplies so hard my fingers hurt.
The entire time I kept telling myself it was only a job.
Only a job, yes, only a job but the moment I started cleaning, my eyes began to sting.
I quickly turned my face away, No! I would not cry.
Not here! Not in front of him.
I swallowed hard and continued working.
But no matter how much I fought it, tears still slipped down my face.
And the worst part was that I was not even sure whether I was crying because of Ethan or because life had become so difficult that I could no longer tell where one pain ended and another began.
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-EIGHTEthan's POVThe hospital corridor was quiet when I arrived with Sophia, but the silence did nothing to calm me because Victor was lying behind one of those doors, injured because someone had tried to stop him from telling me the truth, and the more I thought about what had happened, the more certain I became that we were finally getting close to the person who had been controlling everything from the beginning.Breed was standing outside the treatment room when we arrived."How is he?" I asked."He is stable," Breed replied. "The bullet went through his shoulder, and the doctors are treating him now."I released a breath I did not realize I had been holding."Will he be okay?""They said he should recover."Sophia moved closer to me."Thank God."I nodded, but my mind remained on Victor's words. The child everyone believed had died was still alive. That single truth had changed everything.Daniel was sitting a few chairs away, his hands clasped tog
CHAPTER 137Ethan's POVI could not get the man's final words out of my head as we left the house because every explanation we had found seemed to lead us back to the same people, the same night, and the same secrets that had been buried for years.Ask Victor, that was what he had said and I was done waiting."We are finding Victor tonight," I said as I walked into the study.Breed followed me. "Ethan, we need to be careful.""I have been careful for too long."Sophia came behind us, still holding the diary. "We don't know if Victor is the enemy.""I know.""Then why are you so sure we should go after him?""Because someone who has Willy knows exactly what happened, and he keeps sending us toward Victor."Daniel, who had been standing quietly near the window, finally spoke."You should not go."I turned toward him."Why?""Because Victor is not the person you think he is."My eyes narrowed."What does that mean?"Daniel looked uncomfortable."It means you should hear him out before you
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIXSophia's POVI remained in Ethan's mother's room long after Ethan had gone downstairs with Breed because I could not stop thinking about the diary, especially the missing pages and the strange way they had been removed, because there was something about the torn edges that made me believe someone had deliberately taken them rather than simply tearing them out in anger or carelessness.I placed the diary on the table and slowly turned through the pages again, looking for anything I might have missed. Most of the entries were about Ethan's childhood, his father's work, and the difficult years their family had experienced, but whenever his mother mentioned the man we were searching for, she never wrote his name, and instead she used the same strange name she had used throughout the diary. The Wolf.I reached the last complete entry and ran my fingers over the torn section.Something felt different.I turned the diary over and examined the back cover.Th
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FIVEEthan's POVI could not stop staring at the photograph even after everyone had left the room, because the image of my mother standing beside my father and the mysterious man had created a question in my mind that I could no longer ignore, and the more I looked at it, the more I felt as though the life I had known was slowly becoming a story someone else had written for me."My mother knew him," I said quietly.Daniel stood near the door."Yes."I turned toward him."Then why did you hide this from me?"Daniel looked down."Because your mother asked me to.""She asked you to hide a man who was connected to my father's accident?""She was trying to protect you."I laughed bitterly."Everyone keeps saying they were protecting me, yet I am the one suffering now."Sophia stepped closer and gently touched my arm."Ethan, we need to find out what happened before we decide what your mother did."I looked at her."I don't even know who my mother was anymore.
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-FOURSophia's POVThe search continued through the night because Ethan refused to allow anyone to rest while Willy was still missing, and even though the house had become quiet again, there was nothing peaceful about the silence because every person inside the building was waiting for the next piece of information that could finally lead us to our son.I remained in the living room with Lexa and Alex because Ethan had insisted that the children should stay away from everything happening in the study, but keeping my mind away from Willy was impossible when every sound reminded me that he was somewhere else, surrounded by people whose intentions we could not understand.Lexa had fallen asleep on the sofa with her head resting against my thigh, while Alex sat beside her, staring at the floor with his arms folded across his chest. He had not said much since Willy disappeared. That frightened me more than his crying would have.Alex had always been the kind o
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-THREESophia's POVThe moment Daniel finished speaking, I felt a strange heaviness settle over the room because his words had made me realize that the danger surrounding our family was no longer something we could keep treating as a problem from the past, especially when someone had already found a way into our home, taken Willy, and watched us search for answers without us realizing that they were always several steps ahead.Ethan remained standing beside the desk, staring at Daniel with an expression I could not easily understand because there was anger in his eyes, but beneath that anger there was also something deeper that looked almost like fear, and I knew that he was thinking about the same thing that had been running through my mind since Daniel told us that the people behind everything already knew we had found the photograph. They knew. They had been watching us.They knew we were searching. They knew about the study. They knew about the photog
CHAPTER SevenEthan’s POVI was stil in the office checking Sophia through the CCTV when my phone rang.At first, I almost ignored it, I jus wanted my eyes fixed on Sophia, but when I saw the caller ID, I answered immediately. It was Willy’s school, I had a bad feeling because why would they be call
CHAPTER FIVE Sophia’s POVBy the time I got back home, my body was alreadu aching me, I had never work so hard like this even when I worked as a cleaner two years ago.And moreover, seeing Ethan again, hearing his voice, sitting in front of him like nothing had happened between us, it kept playing
CHAPTER FOUREthan’s POVI arrived at the office almost an hour earlier than usual because Sophia was starting work today. My assistant had told me we have an appointment in the other branches, but I turned it back because she was starting work here today.I hated the fact that I had checked the tim
