Chapter five

The next day, Nathania went to school a little earlier than usual in order to claim her spot and show Xavier but as she was pulling into the school, she saw the power bike in her spot but this time, someone was sitting on it. She couldn’t believe that despite coming earlier than usual, he was there before her. How come, doesn’t he sleep at home? She has a reason for coming earlier because it takes her forty-five minutes to drive from the town her grandmother live in to the school but Teresa lives close up, only fifteen minutes’ drive so why does he come so early?

She pulled over in the slot next to him and glared at him from the window. Xavier took off his helmet and when he saw the glare from the boy, he only scoffed, got down from his bike and grabbed his backpack. Without another glance to the boy in the truck, he strode into school.

What is his deal anywhere? Nathania found herself asking as she watched the boy matching into the school. He always arrives early to school only to hide somewhere that no one would see him, so why bother? She groaned in frustration that even though she tried her best, she still lost to him. She got down from the truck and went into the school, hoping to at least catch him sneaking away but she ended up not even seeing him again.

During Math class, everyone quieted down as the teacher entered the class. Nathania found her jaw dropping to the floor when she saw the boy he was pulling in with him. Xavier looked like he had been woken up from his sleep but he still followed their teacher like a good little boy. “Everyone,” the teacher said, “this is Xavier Grey, he would be joining our class from now on. Is there something you would love to say to your classmates, Xavier?” he asked but the boy said nothing and merely walked to the empty desk in the back of the class and sat down. Everyone watched him and the teacher ended up shaking his head before turning to the white board to start his teaching.

Nathania glanced at the boy sitting at the back of the class before she turned and whispered to Teresa sitting beside her. “Where do you think he found him?”

“Probably somewhere sleeping the day away,” she replied with a roll of her eyes but something made her eyes sparkle and she turned to her boyfriend. “Hey, my parents are traveling tomorrow, would you like me to come spend the weekend with you?”

“What?” Nathania was shocked but she immediately cleared her throat as her mind ran fast for the perfect excuse. “Um, that won’t be a good idea, you know that…”

“You are always making up excuses,” Teresa surprised her by saying and a little loudly, bringing everyone eyes on them.

“Is there something you would love to share with the class, Ms. Grey?” the teacher asked.

Teresa cleared her throat and shook her head, “I’m sorry Mr. Galpin, it won’t happen again.”

“It better don’t,” Mr. Galpin said and continued with his teaching.

Nathania glanced at Teresa, offering her best puppy eyes, “hey,” she whispered, deliberately making her voice deeper so that it would work it’s magic on her. “Listen, it’s not like I am making an excuse. You know that I live forty-five minutes from here, I don’t won’t you to stress yourself.”

“You drive to and fro every day, so how can it be hard or difficult for me?”

 “You won’t understand.”

“Then make me. I don’t you understand you, Oliver, honestly. You won’t kiss me, you won’t touch me, you will not even spend the night with me. I don’t understand, is there something I should know?”

“No, there is nothing you should know. I am not hiding anything from you. It’s just that like I said, I don’t want to ruin the moment for us. I told you I’m saving myself for my wedding night. Our wedding night. I want everything to be perfect. You are perfect and you deserve only the perfect things, only the perfect experiences,” she took Teresa’s hand and kissed her knuckles, deliberately letting her lips linger there. She saw the inaudible sigh she made and had to keep herself from smiling, it means it was working.

“But Oliver, we have been dating for a month now, I want to kiss you and touch you, you know…”

“Last warning, Ms. Grey, or it’s detention for you,” Mr. Galpin said.

Nathania smiled and kissed Teresa’s check, whispering in her ear as her breathing fanned her skin, “we will talk after class, promise.”

Teresa nodded reluctantly and finally focused in class while Nathania sighed in relief, glad that phase was over, at least for now. She found herself glancing behind her at a desk only to find a pair of deep brown eyes staring at her. She gulped and turned to the teacher immediately while fighting to get those eyes from her mind.

When the class was finally over, Nathania was able to escape Teresa by escaping to the boy’s bathroom. She didn’t leave until she heard the bell. She knew she would still answer to Teresa but before then, she would have a perfect excuse ready. As she walked over to her locker to get her book for her next class, she was surprised to see the boy leaning on it. He kept his eyes on her when he saw her approaching and didn’t even bother to move, “Oliver, a word?” He asked.

“I didn’t see you in school throughout the week and now thrice in one day?” Nathania asked, trying to act cool and not to be lost in his deep brown eyes. She doesn’t know why but every time she was staring at them, she can’t help but feel like they were pulling her in to uncover their secrets.

Xavier didn’t laugh at the joke and just went straight to the point. “Are you cheating on my sister?”
