Chapter 10 Is There Another Windfall?

The gain was always followed by pleasure. With the joy of the harvest, Wang Ke said goodbye to Liu Gang and then headed towards his rented residence.

The two magic weapons he accidentally obtained were sold for a total of two hundred and fifty thousand yuan. After transferring fifty thousand to his parents, he now had two hundredthousand left in his bank account.

Two hundredthousandyuan!

This was a huge amount of money for him who was used to being poor.

He was thinking about whether he should rent a better place to live. Because the house he was renting was in a dilapidated courtyard with eight cottages, two of which were occupied by the landlord and his family, and the rest were rented out.

"Luckily that guy's got some sense in him, or I'd drive him away too. He's a young man though. He could do nothing but lock himself in his room after coming back every day. I bet Wang Ke can do nothing but eat and drink."

Just as he got to the gate, Wang Ke heard the slightly hoarse woman's voice.

His face was instantly gloomy. There was a middle-aged couple who lived in the same courtyard as him. The woman was a little pretty, but she had a sharp tongue like a b*tch. And her man was a brawny guy with tattoos. In the past, people who lived in the yard were talking about the man as a gangster, so no one wanted to get involved with the couple.

Even though the middle-aged woman was always making things up and talking behind people's backs, everyone tried to avoid her. So no one had any conflicts with the couple.

Wang Ke despised that couple very much. They were the only two people in the courtyard who had an old van, so they always felt superior and always showed off in front of people.

Wang Ke expressionlessly pushed open the gate and walked in, glanced at the middle-aged woman, didn't give a sh*t about her, and walked towards his room.

When the woman saw Wang Ke come back, her face was slightly raised with a look of contempt. She strode in front of Wang Ke and said, "Hey, boy. Don't hide in your room every day when you come back, ok? How much money can you get from your job? At a young age, you should go out more and find more ways to get rich. I really look down on you. You are so young, but you don't work hard. How will you live in the future? How will you find a wife without money?"

Wang Ke frowned slightly and said without emotion, "What does it matter to you whether I make money or find a wife?"

The woman was stunned, she didn't think Wang Ke would dare to refute her. She was so angry that she pointed her finger at Wang Ke's nose and yelled, "How can you talk to me like that? What's your attitude? I am concerned about you, but you don't know what's good for you. If we weren't neighbors, would I care? You will always be a loser. You just look good, perhaps you are born to be a gigolo..."

Wang Ke looked at this yenta indifferently and didn't say a word.

As he passed her, Wang Ke changed his mind and went straight to his landlord's room.

The woman thought he chickened out and she spoke to his back with even more complacency.

"Wang, what can I do for you?"

The landlord was an honest middle-aged man. When he saw Wang Ke, his face showed a trace of confusion.

Wang Ke nodded and said, "Sir, it's the end of the month, and I'm not going to renew my lease."

The landlord was a little puzzled, and then a bitter look appeared on his face. He glanced at the gossipy woman outside quickly, and then invited Wang Ke into the room and closed the door before asking, "Wang, is that couple bothering you?"

Wang Ke shook his head and said, "No. It's for other reasons."

The landlord nodded silently, took out the cigarette box from his pocket, lit one and smoked it, and then said bitterly, "If you're moving out, you will be the third person to check out this month. If it goes on like this, there will be no one living here."

Wang Ke understood what the landlord meant. Because of the couple, two families had already moved out this month.

"Wang, since you're here today, let's talk. Well, actually, I can't stand it anymore. My son is going to take the college entrance examination this year. As the day gets closer, he can't concentrate on his study at home. You know, the couple put on music so loudly every night that the roof would collapse. Moreover, there are often some hooligans coming to their home to drink and play cards, making so many noises, and we can't sleep."

"Wang, you are a good man. Although you don't talk much, I can tell you are definitely a young man with a lot of ideas. I also know that I can't keep you here for too long. You will show your talents one day in the future. I've been holding back some words for a long time, and I must say them today."

"The couple has been living here for two and a half years and still owe me two years' rent. My family, as I'm sure you know, is too poor to make ends meet, and I have to pay for my son's schooling. I've asked them for it so many times, and they all said they didn't have any money. Well, I've thought about it. My wife and son will move out in a few days to create a good learning environment for the kid. I will stay here and urge them to pay back the money."

Looking at the landlord's face full of bitterness and helplessness, Wang Ke also felt sad.

Everybody had ineffable difficulties in his mind. He wanted to comfort the landlord, but he didn't know how to say it. He knew that all words of reassurance were of little avail to the landlord.

Looking at him smoking the most abominable cigarette, Wang Ke sighed in his heart. Glancing around the room, he could see that the landlord was living a very difficult life.

Suddenly, his attention fixed on something, and then his eyes widened.

There was an incense burneron the worn square table, from which he faintly perceived something unusual. For the past six months, he had been dealing with antiques all day. He was not that much proficient, but at least he could tell the difference between good and bad.

"Landlord, can I have a look at the incense burner on that table?" Wang Ke asked.

The landlord was a bit stunned. Then he waved his hand and said, "Sure. It's just a shabbything."

Wang Ke walked a few steps to the square table, took the incense burner in his hand, and scrutinized it for a while. He felt more and more that the incense burnerwas not an ordinary one, but most likely an antique.

It was in the shape of a tripod. This blue and white incense burner were composed of three sections. The upper part was rectangular and wide, the middle part was square, and the lower part was four legs reaching out. The whole showed a majestic momentum, and the blue and white patterns were very smooth. Obviously, the carving technology was excellent.

Not a single flaw could be detected, nor could traces of imitation be seen.

Wang Ke was a little excited. He couldn't be a hundred percent sure that it was an antique, but he felt that it was a genuine antique. This kind of feeling was quite inexplicit. He couldn't explain why he felt this way.

Maybe this was another magic weapon!

This idea had just emerged and could no longer be suppressed.

Was he really lucky recently? Did he meet the treasure by accident again?

He was slightly disappointed that he could no longer use the extraordinary vision for the rest of the day. Otherwise, he would have been able to easily judge whether the incense burnerwas a magic weapon or not.

After hesitating for a while, he said, "Sir, how about selling this incense burnerto me? I think it should be a good thing, but I don't know."

The landlord's face froze for a moment, and then his eyes became strange. He knew that Wang Ke worked in an antique shop, but how could this incense burner, which had been in his home for decades, be a good thing?

"Are you sure? This thing has been here for decades. It's just an ordinary incense burner.” The landlord was worried that Wang Ke had misread it, so he kindly reminded.

For decades?

In that case, it was not an imitation of the last few decades.

Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Wang Ke said, "Well, to be honest, I really can't decide. You know, I'm just a little clerk in an antique shop without much experience, and I was fired today. If you're willing to sell it to me, I will pay you a good price."

Everyone in this world wanted money, and this kind landlord was no exception.

After some hesitation, the landlord asked, "How much will you pay for it?"

Wang Ke just thought about it in his heart, "How about five hundred?"

The landlord was excited. Without the slightest hesitation, he said loudly, "Ok, five hundred. Deal!"

Wang Ke nodded. He hadn't spent much of the one thousand and five hundred yuan he just got back in cash from his stingy boss Zhou Bapi today. He immediately handed a few cash to the landlord, and smiled, "Then it's mine."

He had secretly made up his mind. If the incense burner was genuine, or if he had better luck and it was a magic weapon, he would give half of the money to the landlord after selling it. In his view, even if he had got a windfall, he still needed to be morally righteous. The landlord was living such a hard life but so kind to him, so giving him half the money would make him feel better.

A few minutes later, Wang Ke returned to his room with the incense burner. He had just sat down when he heard the loud rock music coming from the couple's room next door.

His face grew darker and darker. He had put up with the two people for a long time. Now they were becoming more unscrupulous.

He decided not to put up with it anymore. Anyway, he was about to leave, so he should go warn them and help the landlord by the way.

Wang Ke made up his mind, stood up, put the incense burner in his hand on the bedside table, and strode out of the room.
