Chapter 34

I walk absentmindedly over to the balcony and sit just staring mindlessly out at the city, I close my eyes and just take in deep breaths then release, I keep repeating until I feel like I’ve rid myself of all the darkness and heat that I had seen in my vision, I look down at my pale smooth skin and sigh.

“What’s the matter?” I jump and gasp “gosh Noah, you almost gave me a heart attack” “since when are you so jumpy, I didn’t exactly sneak up on you, I walked over like I normally do, didn’t you scent me or hear me approach?” “ no, sorry my mind was far away, I was doing some breathing exercises” “something new hmm” “you know me, always keeping up with the new trends, how come you’re back so early?”

He raised a surprised eyebrow at me “Ash, it’s almost 17:35, are you sure you’re not sick or something, should I call the doctor?” “wow, my nap lasted a lot longer than I thought, sorry I didn’t check the time when I got up, the nap felt so short” I laughed awkwardly, technically I wasn’t lying.

If anyone were to walk into the room and see me, it’d look as though I was asleep not knowing I was really having out of body visions, my mother once told my father and others that I had died because I was unresponsive and my heart slowed right down to the point that she thought I had died or was on the verge of, that was when I had just started having my visions.

Over time we all became used to it, especially after them taking me to a seer and being told I was touched by the Goddess, with the gift of vision or foresight, which ever one is comfortable with calling it.

At first it was very scary but over time I proved to be very useful not only to my family but to the entire were kingdom, I am called Lady Astrid because of my contribution, I have helped different packs avoid loss and wars with my visions and over time it was recognized by the Royals and as time went on and Tyler and I both seem to be without mates, talk began to swirl and even presented to the King and Queen that we should be betrothed, well I expected Tyler to fight against it which he did but as time went on, and this mate is no where to be found I guess he’s accepted his fate to be mine.

I was so lost in thought that I had not realized that Noah was long gone. Right now I really can’t be bothered, I feel so drained but if I go back to bed he would wonder how I can be exhausted if I’m just up from a nap, sigh must be nice to be a part of my consciousness rather than a manifestation huh Car, you can nap while I’m here struggling.

‘Don’t be silly, just lean back on the chair and sleep, if he asks just say the cool air caused you to drift back off to sleep, sheesh human sometimes I really do wonder about you’

I don’t even spare her the time or waste my breath on a rebuttal, it would simply not make any sense at all, I lean back comfortably on the chair and close my eyes, the breeze really does come in nicely here doesn’t it, slowly I drift off to sleep, hopefully no more dreams again.

“Something is strange about the shewolf today, did anything happen while I was away?”

“No sire, she returned with her purchases, went to her room to put them away and when Viva went to check on her, she was asleep on her bed, so we left her alone to rest”

I nod my head but just can’t shake the feeling that something is up “are you sure she wasn’t pretending to be asleep and went snooping into my room?”

“We are certain my Lord, no one ventured into your quarters, and she never left hers until just before you arrived, and she went straight to the kitchen”

“Okay, how has our scouting been going, any new recruits yet?”

“No sire, due to the packs tightening their security at their borders we have been unable to infiltrate”

“It’d be too risky to start taking wolves off the street here, people would notice they’re going missing, it’s much too close to home to take that chance”

“Agreed sire, we would keep trying to get the new scouts by continuing to observe the packs until we find a way to breach their borders”

“Well, we’ve come this far with our plans, there’s nothing wrong with a little patience, we must ensure that absolutely nothing else goes wrong, well I should say nothing more because had we not had all the little mishaps they would not have known to add security to their borders even though they don’t know what the threat is and let us keep it that way”

“Understood sire, we will not make any more errors going forward”

“Good, dismissed” I need to head back to check on Astrid.
