Eleven

Alpha Maxwell was at his office. His Beta Dimitri came to him, looking worried.

Maxwell gazed at him, then back at his laptop.

"Forgot to knock?" Alpha Maxwell asked, typing.

"I'm sorry, your highness. I was just carried away, I was confused." Beta Dimitri answered.

A smile creeped out from the corner of Maxwell's lips.

"You are a smart Beta, what possibly could have made you confused?" Maxwell questioned.

"Luna Xenia had stopped an auctioning of a lady at the auction market and everyone is talking about it. Report came to me that she abruptly ended the auctioning and took the girl away." Beta Dimitri answered and Maxwell shockingly lifted his head from the laptop.

"She did that?" He asked to be certain.

"Yes, your highness. And you know that's bad. The people will be thinking she did that because of the sword of power that you handed to her." Beta Dimitri exclaimed.

"Oh." Alpha Maxwell said and get off from his chair, he walked to the balcony of the office and stared around.

"I will talk to her." He turned to Dimitri, leaning on the wall and folded his hands.

"You really should. I won't advise her to start a fight against something that has been going on for a while. Even the pack Elders will not support it." Dimitri stated.

"Leave." Alpha Maxwell instructed.

"But..."

"I need to think, Dimitri…I said, leave." Alpha Maxwell ordered.

"Sure, your majesty." Beta Dimitri replied and bowed before leaving.

Alpha Maxwell spread his hands on the table after taking his seat back.

"My Luna." He muttered and decided to go meet her.

Xenia went to her chamber and she had so many times on her mind, not knowing how to start or where to start from.

Her eyes glanced at the history of the great Luna Ivory, and she went ahead and picked it up.

"How were you able to handle this title for so long? How were you able to fight against a tradition that is wrong but was considered right? I don't know what to do, please show me a way out." Xenia uttered, placing her hands on the cover picture of Luna Ivory.

"The Alpha might not even support me, even if I wanted to change the rules." She added.

The door opened, revealing Alpha Maxwell.

"Hey." He waved before coming in fully.

"Welcome back, your highness." Xenia said and he sat down on one of the couches in the living room.

Xenia followed him and sat down. She looked lost and had so much to say but didn't know how to.

"So, how was the outing? You liked it?" Maxwell asked, stretching his hands.

"It...it was good." Xenia answered in a low tone.

"You don't look okay, is there something you want to talk about?" Alpha Maxwell asked and her heart skipped.

"No...no." her lips trembled as she replied.

He stood up from where he was seated and sat next to her.

"The girl you brought in from the auctioning. Where is she?" He suddenly asked, her heart was beating faster.

"I…I… I'm sorry…I had to bring her without asking and…" Alpha Maxwell paused her by placing a finger on her lips.

"You are the Luna, you can bring anyone to the palace without telling me. That's not a problem." Maxwell said, she forced a smile.

"So, you stopped the auctioning, why?" He asked.

Xenia stared at the ground.

Maxwell lifted her head with his fingers, making sure their eyes met.

"Xenia, talk to me." He said.

"You have the right to be angry. Yeah, I was stupid, I wasn't thinking straight. When I saw Anabelle getting auctioned. It throws me back to the same situation I found myself years ago. The tears, the pleas, everything. Getting auctioned was what practically ruined my life. I couldn't just watch her cry and let her get sold to that ugly dirty old man, I couldn't." Xenia sniffed.

"It might be a tradition, but this is a terrible tradition, believe me. It took away our pride and value as women, and what's our fault? We are just females, we don't deserve to be sold off like chickens. Even chickens get more respect than ladies after getting auctioned. When I saw Annabelle's eyes, I saw the same pains that I once had in my eyes, and she is going to live in it forever. I couldn't let that happen to Anabelle or any other lady in this pack again.” Xenia exclaimed while Maxwell listened to her attentively.

“So, what do you want to do?” Alpha Maxwell asked.

“I don't know. I don't even know. I know I made a mistake that I shouldn't have, and you won't support me in it, regardless of what."

Xenia answered.

"And who said I wouldn't?" Alpha Maxwell asked and she looked into his eyes.

"You would?" Xenia asked.

Instead of responding, he walked to the other side of the living room, where the sword of power was kept. He took it and returned to Xenia.

"Give me your hands." He said, and she did curiously.

He placed the sword in her hand.

"Xenia, you already have this sword. And I trust your decisions, whatever decision you may make might be for the betterment of the pack and not only will I support you, i will make sure you do what's right." Alpha Maxwell stated.

"Come with me." He said and took her hands, then walked out of the room with her, while she wondered silently where he was taking her to.

They arrived in front of a door and Maxwell pushed the door opened, they entered.

Xenia found herself in a well furnished office.

"Why are we here?" Xenia asked.

"Here is your office. And this chair is your throne. Whatever decision that you will make in this office will officially become an order. So, I want you to think about this carefully. You are bringing something new to the people that will be difficult for them to accept, so you need to ask yourself this question, will you be able to convince them? Will you be able to fight any obstacles that come your way? Will you be ready to fight until you succeed in wiping off the tradition? If you can, then know that the sword of power gives you an opportunity to make or change any decisions." Alpha Maxwell exclaimed while she listened as she stared at the sword.

"Whatever decision you may make, I as the Alpha and your mate will support you always." He added, his words becoming an antidote that cures her weakness and gives her all the encouragement she needs.
