Having a baby

"Although Kellan is in a coma, his physical functions are all intact, just like a normal person," Mrs. Scott added.

Emily was a little confused.

"Miss Scott, that is, Master Scott is fully capable of fathering a child, but you will have to rely on yourself," Dr. Bennett added bluntly.

Emily’s mind felt like it had been struck.

"Before getting married, you didn’t mention this," she looked at Mrs. Scott, feeling a flicker of betrayal.

She had agreed to marry—never thought about having children.

And now, with him in a coma!

"Isn’t this a wife’s duty? Who marries without having children?" Mrs. Scott replied softly.

Emily opened her mouth, but found no words to refute her.

"Don’t worry," Mrs. Scott continued. "When the child is born, the Scott family will provide the best of everything. Boy or girl, he or she will be an heir to the Scott legacy. If you don’t want to raise the child yourself, I will see to it personally."

"What if I refuse?" Emily asked tentatively.

"As far as I know, your mother’s condition is serious, correct? Life-threatening. Medical technology in Yuncheng isn’t top-tier. Have you considered transferring her to a hospital in New York, and consulting a first-class doctor for surgery?"

Emily had not considered it—she didn’t have the means.

Mrs. Scott’s words struck her weakness like a hammer.

"Emily, as a daughter-in-law of the Scott family, these things are trivial for us," Mrs. Scott said firmly.

Emily’s heart trembled.

"Can this… be done manually?" she asked, holding on to her last stubborn hope.

"What if Kellan wakes up one day? Labor is different from direct intimacy. Even in a coma, we must protect his dignity," Mrs. Scott responded lightly.

Every word carried unwavering authority.

Emily clenched her hands, palms sweaty.

A comatose man had dignity… what about hers?

She laughed bitterly. Her dignity was worthless.

"I still need to finish my studies… can this wait two years?" Emily asked timidly.

"No," Mrs. Scott replied. "Within three months, you must be carrying Kellan’s child. Think carefully: this is an opportunity for both wealth and your mother’s survival."

Emily’s pupils constricted. There was a hint of threat in that sentence.

"It’s not enough to have a first-class hospital and a first-class doctor—you’ll also need a kidney donor for your mother," Mrs. Scott said, her tone controlled.

Emily’s jaw tightened.

"You might have considered donating your kidney, but as a young lady of the Scott family, I will not allow you to hurt yourself. We will provide the kidney."

Mrs. Scott’s gaze pinned Emily, analyzing every subtle reaction.

Then she pursed her lips lightly, her expression calm yet commanding, as if she were holding a battle between heaven and earth in check:

"Aren’t you studying performing arts? Don’t worry about school being interrupted. As long as you obey, your path will be smooth in the future."

Emily inhaled sharply, realizing the weight of it all.

In just one hour, Mrs. Scott had studied her thoroughly and confirmed that she would marry Kellan Scott.

She felt like a piece of meat on a cutting board.

A knife hovered at her neck—struggle was impossible.

Her dreams? Her life plan? Irrelevant.

"Emily, you are the person I liked at first sight," Mrs. Scott said. "With the Scott family’s resources, I could find countless women to continue the line. But I chose you."

The answer was obvious. Many women would have accepted.

Yet Emily had no choice.

Mrs. Scott observed her silently, testing her pride.

Emily forced a small smile. She had no other options.

She had already guessed the magnitude of the Scott family she married into: the top-tier elite of New York society.

Among all the Scotts in the world, she had found the apex—a shark among sharks.

Was she lucky, or unlucky?

"I promise," Emily said, nodding.

Mrs. Scott’s lips curved in a subtle, satisfied smile.

"However, your mother’s illness cannot wait. We must secure a kidney donor immediately. Once you’re pregnant, your mother will have the surgery."

Emily froze. She was merely a pawn—negotiating anything was impossible.

Mrs. Scott turned to Dr. Bennett. "The rest is in your hands."

"Understood," Dr. Bennett replied with a faint smile.

Mrs. Scott left first.

Dr. Bennett moved to Kellan Scott’s bedside, and Emily followed.

Seeing Kellan lying there, she felt a pang of pity.

A son of immense wealth and power, trained to perfection… now reduced to a vegetative state at the peak of his prime.

"How did he end up like this?" Emily asked softly.

"Kellan’s yacht collided with a floating iceberg. His head was severely injured, and after being rescued from the icy waters, this is the result," Dr. Bennett explained.

"How long has he been like this?"

"Three years."

"Is there any chance he’ll wake up?"

"We can only hope for a miracle," Dr. Bennett replied ambiguously.

Emily studied Kellan like Sleeping Beauty, struck by his handsome features.

Dr. Bennett glanced at her, noting her raw, natural beauty—the kind that seemed almost impossible to find.

Unaware that Emily had spent months sleepless caring for her mother, her hair dry and pale, her appearance at its lowest ebb.

"Sorry… just forget I asked," Emily murmured, looking away awkwardly.

Dr. Bennett simply regarded her, making her uneasy.

"From what I know of Kellan, he would accept you when he wakes," Dr. Bennett finally added, and returned to his monitoring.

She had looked like someone from a minor family. But now, here at the Eastern Cloud Restaurant, arriving with a housekeeper and a lawyer, she radiated wealth and authority. Incredible.”“Yes,” Olivia nodded. “
