Juliana POV

The drive back felt endless.

Silence filled the car so heavily it seemed alive, sitting between Edris and me like something waiting for one of us to say the wrong thing and make everything worse.

I stared out the window, but I wasn't seeing the road or the passing lights. All I could picture was him in that office - his shirt open, anger burning in his eyes, the scar across his chest pulled tight over skin that looked marked by old violence.

"Believe whatever you want. I'm tired of

A little after seven, the doorbell rang. Sofia and I looked at each other before she smiled. “That should be him.” I got up from the couch, trying not to look as nervous as I felt. One of the staff members opened the door, and Diggory stepped inside. He dressed casually, holding his phone in one hand. The moment he saw me, he smiled. “Hey, Juliana.” “Hi, Diggory.” He walked further inside and greeted Sofia before looking toward the stairs. “Where’s Edris?” “In his study,” I replied. “He’s been there for most of the afternoon.”Diggory nodded and headed toward the study with me. Before we reached the door, Edris came out of his study just as Diggory and I reached the hallway. His face brightened when he saw his friend. “Diggory? What are you doing here?” Diggory smiled and walked over to him. “I came to see you, of course. You’ve been disappearing into that study all day.” Edris laughed and shook his head. “I’ve had a lot of work to deal with.” They exchanged a quick hug before E

The next morning, I woke up to sunlight coming through the curtains. For a few seconds, I forgot about everything that had happened the night before. Then the memory came back, and I reached for my phone. One new message from Diggory. “We need to talk. I found something else.” I stared at the message, wondering what he'd found this time.I quickly got out of bed and went into the bathroom before Edris woke up. I locked the door and called Diggory. He answered almost immediately. “You saw my message?” he asked. “Yes. What did you find?” There was a short pause. “I found something about the second line, but I don’t want to discuss it over the phone.” My grip tightened around the phone. “Then tell me where to meet you.”“Not today,” he said. “You need to give me some time. I want to make sure everything is confirmed before I show you.” I frowned. “But you said you found something.” “I did, just trust me, Juliana.” I was quiet for a moment. “Fine. But don’t keep me waiting too long.” “

I got into my car and placed the envelope on the passenger seat. For a few minutes, I just sat there, staring at it. I wanted to open it again, but I knew I wouldn't find anything new inside. The pictures were already stuck in my head, especially the one of Edris and Julian together. I started the car and drove home, trying to figure out how I was supposed to look my husband in the face and pretend everything was normal.By the time I arrived at the mansion, it was almost nine. The lights were on, and I could see Edris through the window before I even stepped inside. He was sitting on the couch, looking at his phone. The moment he heard the door open, he looked up. “There you are. I was starting to wonder where you were.” I forced a smile. “Sorry. I took longer than I expected.” He stood up and walked toward me. “Did you find what you went out for?”“Yeah,” I lied, holding my bag closer to myself. “It took some time, but I got it.” Edris nodded, then reached for my hand. “Are you o

After lunch, Sofia and I returned to the shopping center for a little while longer. She wanted to check one more store, and I went along with her even though my mind was already somewhere else. Every few minutes, I found myself checking the time. By the time we got back to the car, it was almost four in the afternoon. We had several hours before the meeting, so we decided to head home and drop off our shopping bags. When we arrived at the mansion, Edris was in the sitting room. He looked up from his phone when we walked in and smiled. “You two had fun?” Sofia dropped some of her bags onto the couch. “Fun? I nearly went broke.” Edris laughed. “I thought you were shopping for a few things.” “I was,” she said. “Apparently, a few things can become a lot of things.” I laughed as I carried my bags upstairs, but my smile faded as soon as I was alone. I couldn’t stop thinking about the meeting. The afternoon dragged on. Sofia remained downstairs, keeping Edris occupied with conversation wh

A little while later, Sofia and I went downstairs. Edris was sitting in the living room, and when he heard us, he looked up.His eyes moved from me to Sofia, then he smiled. “You two going somewhere?”Sofia answered before I could say anything. “We’re going shopping. I have a few things to pick up, and Juliana is coming with me.”I gave her a small, grateful look, then looked back at Edris. “Yeah. We shouldn’t be gone for too long.”He stood up and walked over to us. “Do you want me to send the driver with you?”For a moment, my heart skipped.I kept my face calm. “No, it’s fine. Sofia and I can go ourselves.”He looked at me for a second. “Are you sure?”I nodded. “Yeah. We want some time together.”“Exactly,” Sofia added. “No husbands. Just girl time.”Edris laughed under his breath. He stepped closer and kissed my forehead. “All right. Just be careful.”“I will.”I smiled at him, but my mind went straight back to the night before. He had asked me what was wrong with me. Had he noti

Sofia looked up from the bed. “What happened?” I placed my things beside her and tried to act normal. “Nothing happened.” She gave me a look. “Juliana, I know you. That face means something happened.” I sighed and sat beside her. “Edris noticed I’ve been acting strange since we got back.”“What did you tell him?” she asked. “That I was tired and wanted to spend the night with you.” Sofia nodded slowly. “And he believed you?” I shook my head. “Not really. He kept asking me what was wrong. He even asked me to talk to him.” She studied me for a moment. “And you didn’t?”“No.” I looked down at my hands. “I couldn’t. How am I supposed to sit there and tell him that I’m secretly investigating him while he’s looking at me like he trusts me completely?” Sofia sighed. “You can’t. Not yet, anyway.”I nodded. “Exactly. I need to get through tomorrow without giving anything away.”Sofia moved closer to me. “Then don’t think about the investigation tonight. You’re here with me, so let’s forg

I didn’t move, I couldn’t. It felt like I’d been caught red-handed at a crime scene, unsure whether to run or stay where I was. Edris was standing in the doorway as he had always been there for a long time watching, and as if he already knew what I was up to. My fingers tightened around the pho

I stood there, staring at the spot where Edris had been a few seconds ago.I was so confused, angry, and frustrated. What the hell was wrong with that man?I had literally stabbed him yesterday, yet somehow I was the one feeling unsettled.I glanced at the breakfast on the table. The eggs, the toas

Around us, guests moved through the grand ballroom laughing, drinking expensive champagne, and celebratin
