Miguel couldn’t return home the previous night, the doctor on night duty had called in sick, and there was no replacement. Miguel had no other choice but to stay back, working both day and night shift .
All through the night, he checked his phone, yet, there were no calls, or messages from Isabella. His body was tired, but his mind refused to rest , what if something bad had happened to her ? He thought but immediately erased the thought from his mind.
By morning, his eyes were red due to lack of sleep and tiredness, he had managed to convince himself throughout the night that she was fine. Maybe she had slept early, maybe her phone battery died, but deep down, something felt wrong.
Miguel didn’t wait, he hurriedly grabbed his car keys and rushed out of the hospital like a man running from fire.
The drive home felt longer than usual, when he pulled into the compound, something felt off, everywhere was unusually quiet, there was no movement, or sound, the house looked empty.
He parked his car carelessly and stepped down quickly, his eyes scanned the entire compound, searching for any sign of life, that was when he Isabella’s crocs on the floor, near the entrance, it was just lying there.
Isabella never left her shoes outside like that before, never.
He bent down slowly and picked them up. They felt light in his hands.
“Why would she leave these here?” he muttered.
He was about to step inside when something else caught his attention.
Her phone, It was lying on the floor too. Miguel’s heart skipped.
“No… no… no,” he whispered.
He grabbed the phone and ran into the house.
“Isabella!” he shouted. But there was no response.
“Isabella!” he called again, this time, more louder but silence answered him.
He moved from room to room, his steps were fast.
“Isabella!”
“Bella!”
“Where are you?”
He checked the kitchen, the living room, and the bedroom, yet it was empty, his breathing grew heavy, the only thought that came to his mind was that she had been kidnapped.
His hands shook as he reached for his phone. He wanted to call the police immediately, but he stopped as an idea flashed through his mind.
He dialed Andrea’s number instead, the call rang once, twice, then Andrea picked up.
“Where is my sister?” Miguel asked immediately the line connected.
Andrea gave out a mocking laugh.
“I’ve been expecting you to call earlier,” Andrea said. “As for your sister, she’s in my custody.”
Miguel’s grip on the phone tightened.
“You motherfucker!” he yelled. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on her?”
Andrea chuckled.
“She’s my wife,” he said calmly. “Ex-wife, actually.”
“And did you also know,” Andrea continued casually, “that she’s carrying my child?”
“If you do anything to hurt her or the baby,” Miguel said through clenched teeth, “you’ll never get away with it.”
He said and the line went dead. Andrea ended the call. Miguel stared at the phone, his fist clenched tightly in rage. He dares to hang up?
“You think your money and connections can save you?” Miguel said aloud, his voice shaking with rage.
He dialed the police immediately, but got no response, they were closed. Miguel laughed bitterly.
“Of course,” he muttered. “Andrea’s doing.”
He slipped the phone into his pocket and walked out of the house.
“Since you asked for war,” he said coldly, “get ready for war.” he said gritting his teeth.
Isabella was his sister, and the only blood relative he had on planet earth, after his parents passed away in an auto crash, he promised to watch after Isabel, even if it means sacrificing his own blood, he entered his car and drove off.

Meanwhile, Isabella was at Andrea’s mansion.
She lay on the bed, and curled into herself, her eyes were swollen, red, and stained with dried tears. Her body felt heavy, was it because of the pregnancy? Or because she had cried out all her strength, she couldn't tell.
The door creaked open , and a maid walked in quietly.
“Hello, ma’am,” the maid said gently. “Sir Andrea said you should come join him for breakfast.”
Isabella turned her face away. “Tell him to go to hell with his fetish food,” she replied weakly.
“But ma—”
“Get out,” Isabella ordered.
The maid nodded slowly understanding her plight and walked out. As soon as the door was closed, Isabella’s stomach growled loudly, she placed a hand over her belly, she hadn’t eaten anything since yesterday, and she knew it wasn’t good for her condition.
The door creaked open again, this time, Andrea walked in, holding a tray of food, another maid followed behind him with another tray.
Isabella sat up slightly and stared at them, what is he up to this time around?
“Since you’ve refused to come downstairs to eat with me,” Andrea said, “I decided to bring the food myself.” He placed the tray on the table.
“Isn’t that gentlemanly of me?” he added, more like a question.
The maid placed her tray down too and quickly left the room, leaving Andrea and Isabella alone.
“I don’t want to eat your disgusting food,” Isabella said. “Just let me go home, please.” Her voice cracked.
“My brother will be worried sick about me.”
Andrea crossed his arms. “This is your home from now on,” he replied. “As for your brother, he’ll be fine.”
“You can’t keep me here against my will,” Isabella said weakly. “We’re divorced.”
Andrea scoffed.
“And you’re carrying my child,” he said. “It’s my duty to take care of you.” He paused.
“Do you think I’d care about you if you weren’t pregnant?” Andrea ranted.
“Come off it,” he continued. “I’m doing this for my child, not you.”
He pointed at the food. “So eat, and go to bed, remember what the doctor said? Be a good girl” he said and turned to leave, then stopped.
“Oh,” he added. “I ordered some maids to go shopping.”
Huh? Shopping? Isabella thought as she looked up slowly, where is he taking me this time?
“Expect your new clothes soon.” Andrea's voice jolted her back to reality.
“I can’t have you walking around my mansion like a slave.” He added and walked out.
Isabella sighed weakly, thank goodness we aren't going anywhere, besides when did he start acting like this?
She shook her head.
“Come off it, Isabel,” she whispered to herself. “Didn’t you hear what he said? He doesn’t give a damn about you.”
She looked at her stomach. “He’s only being nice because I'm carrying his baby.”
Isabella thought, wondering what Andrea would have done to her if the baby in her womb wasn't his.
He'd kill you, a voice echoed in her head, she quickly shook her head trying to chase away the thought of being killed by the brutal and ruthless Andrea.
Her stomach growled loudly once more, she quickly reached for the food and began to eat like her entire life depended on it.
014The only sound inside the car was the soft hum of the engine and the faint brushing sound of the tyres against the road. Streetlights passed by, flashing shadows across Andrea’s face. He sat stiffly in the back seat, his eyes were fixed straight ahead. The driver kept stealing glances at him through the rear-view mirror. Each time, he hesitated, his lips parting slightly like he wants to say something, then closing again. His fingers tightened on the steering wheel. Sweat dotted his forehead, not from heat but as a result of worry. Finally, he cleared his throat.“Sir…”Andrea didn’t respond at firsy, the driver swallowed and tried again.“Sir,” he called, his voice was careful enough not not to upset his boss.Andrea frowned slightly, but he still didn’t turn.“Don’t you think,” the driver continued slowly, “we should go back and pick ma’am up?”Andrea’s head snapped toward the mirror, staring at the driver, his eyes were sharp and cold.“Who are you, to tell me what to do?” he a
013Isabella walked slowly toward the car as the night air brushed against her skin, but it did nothing to calm the storm in her chest. How dare Andrea? Seeing him with that evil bitch makes her feel like strangling life out of him, she wanted to go back upstairs, take off the clothes and stay indoors, but that will only give Vanessa more reason to taunt her, so she played along. She walked towards the car. One of the guards rushed ahead and opened the back door for her, she nodded faintly and slid into the car.The leather seat was cold against her legs, she leaned back and let out a slow breath, then lifted her wrist to check the time, it was past 8:pm already. She had no idea where Andrea was taking her to.What if he doesn't come out? She thought, staring at the entrance door. But to her surprise, the front door of the house opened again, and Andrea stepped out.He looked polished, his expensive suit hugged his tall frame perfectly, the fabric was smooth and wrinkle-free. His shoe
012Isabella walked into the living room with Andrea beside her.“Sit.” Andrea said, with a cold voice.Isabella did not argue, she lowered herself onto the couch, her back sank into the cushions, her shoulders dropped the moment she sat, she was exhausted.Andrea stood in front of her for a moment, looking down at her pale face, and dull eyes.“What would you love to eat?” he asked. When did he start caring somuch? Isabella thought , she didn't give any response at first, Andrea knew she doesn't want to talk to him but he's not having any of it, he bent forward slowly until his face was close to hers, and their noses were only inches apart.Isabella turned her face away at once, she crossed her arms tightly over her chest, like she was trying to shield herself from him.“I don’t want your food,” she said quietly. “I want to go home.”Oh really? You gotta be kidding me, Andrea thought as he straightened up.“Don’t be stubborn, Isabella. You heard what the doctor said.” he said.Isabel
011Vanessa woke up slowly, a sharp pain stabbed through her forehead. She groaned softly, trying to move, only to be met with another wave of pain. Her body felt heavy.“Oh… you’re awake.” A soft voice spoke behind her. Vanessa tried to lift her hand, she watch as the nurse hovered over her.“Where… where’s my baby?” she whispered with a trembling voice. The nurse’s face softened a bit, there was sadness in her eyes. “I’m so sorry, miss. The baby couldn’t make it. You lost it.”The words hit Vanessa like a punch to the chest. “No! My baby!” Tears blurred her vision as they streamed down her cheeks. Her body shook vigorously from the pain, and her hands clenched into fists on the bedsheet, just when she thought she suddenly had something to trap Andrea, the nurse stepped closer to her, but before she could speak, Vanessa cried out in pain. The doctor rushed in, his coat flapping slightly as he stepped forward. “I heard her crying! What’s the matter?” he asked, concerned.“Oh, docto
010Vanessa stared at Andrea and Miguel in confusion, is this bitch trying to seduce my man again?“I asked a question.” She yelled, her voice cutting through the room slowly.Andrea’s hand loosened around Isabella at once. He pushed her away without looking at her. Isabella stumbled back, her palm brushed against the bed for support. Vanessa’s eyes moved to her.“Oh,” she said, her lips curving slightly. “The little witch. Why is she crying?”She asked as her gaze dropped to Isabella’s face, then to her swollen eyes, trembling lips, and the tear stains that still clung to her cheeks.Isabella did not reply, she only smiled faintly because she was tired of everything happening.“Enough.” Andrea said, his voice coming out sharp.Vanessa gasped, one hand instinctively flys to her chest as if she was heartbroken .“Why are you shouting at me?” she asked softly. “Why are you suddenly defending her?”Andrea turned fully to face her. “Why are you here?” he asked.“To see you, of course.” Va
009Andrea has been on the phone for over half an hour listening to his nagging Father. “Dad, I brought her into my house, and so?” He asked sharply into the phone, sounding irritated.Andrea stood beside the large glass window in his study, he watched as his reflection stared back at him.His fingers were drumming lightly against the glass as he spoke. The call was on speaker, and his father’s voice filled the room from the other end.“She’s carrying my child,” Andrea continued, his tone firm. “I can’t have her wandering the entire city and risking the health of my child.” He said, trying to make a point, there was a brief pause.“When did you become so possessive?” his father suddenly asked coldly. Andrea inhaled deeply, before he could reply, the old man spoke again, his voice heavier this time.“I left Isabel in your care before I traveled,” his father said slowly, “and instead of watching over her, you treated her like trash and cheated on her with her best friend.”“You even
