The metallic scent of blood still hangs in the air as Shadow and I leave the clearing. There’s no time for explanations or to tend to our wounds; safety is a fragile illusion right now. Shadow’s body is tense, alert, as if he’s expecting an attack from the shadows at any moment.

“What happened?” I ask, my voice barely a whisper.

“Caleb wasn’t alone.” Shadow doesn’t look at me, his eyes locked on the path ahead. “He had allies. Someone from the pack is helping him.”

The thought of betrayal from someone close to him knocks the breath out of me. I don’t know much about lycans and their hierarchies, but I know loyalty is sacred.

“Who?”

“I don’t know yet. But I will find out.” There’s a hardness in his tone I’ve never heard before—a promise of retribution that sends a chill down my spine.

We walk in silence for a while, the forest growing thicker and darker around us. Every snapping branch, every whisper of wind sets my heart racing.

Eventually, we reach a small cabin hidden among the trees. The wood is weathered by time, but there’s a sense of shelter in it. Shadow pushes the door open and guides me inside.

“We’ll be safe here for now,” he says, closing the door behind him.

Inside, the tension is thick, almost tangible. Shadow moves through the space with a contained energy, cleaning his wounds with quick, careless motions.

“Let me help you,” I offer, grabbing a clean cloth and dipping it into a small bowl of water.

He looks at me, his golden eyes glowing under the dim light. There’s something in his gaze—a mix of exhaustion, distrust, and something else… something I can’t quite name.

“It’s not necessary,” he finally says, but he doesn’t move when I approach.

Carefully, I press the cloth against a deep wound on his side. Shadow doesn’t flinch, but I can feel his muscles tense beneath my touch.

“You don’t have to do everything alone,” I say, my voice soft but steady.

He laughs—a dry, humorless sound.

“I’ve been alone my whole life. This isn’t any different.”

His words hit me like a blow. I want to tell him he’s not alone, that I’m here—but something holds me back. Maybe it’s everything we’ve been through. Maybe it’s the fear he won’t believe me.

As I clean another wound, Shadow finally breaks the silence.

“What happened in the forest?”

I tell him everything—about Isolde and the ritual, about the spirit of the oath and the price I paid to free him. His expression shifts as I speak, moving from surprise to anger, and finally to relief.

“You took a huge risk,” he says, his voice low but intense.

“I would’ve done anything for you.”

My words seem to catch him off guard. For a moment, his eyes meet mine, and time seems to stand still. There’s something between us—something unspoken but powerful.

But before I can say anything more, Shadow looks away.

“I don’t deserve that.”

“What do you mean?” I ask, a pang in my chest.

“My world is dark. Dangerous. There’s no place in it for someone like you.”

“I don’t care.”

Shadow shakes his head, as if battling something inside himself.

“You should.”

The conversation halts when a noise outside the cabin puts us on alert. Shadow moves like a predator, placing himself between me and the door.

“Stay here,” he orders, his voice a sharp whisper.

“No, I’m coming with you.”

“Eve, no.”

“I’m not going to sit back while you risk your life.”

Our eyes meet again, and this time, there’s no room for doubt. Finally, Shadow gives a low grunt and nods.

We step outside together, the cold night air hitting us like a reminder that we’re still alive. The forest is eerily quiet, but there’s a feeling in the air—a tension that makes my skin crawl.

Shadow moves carefully, his senses heightened, and I stay close behind.

Then we see him.

A figure emerges from the shadows, tall and lean, barely visible under the moonlight. It’s Caleb. But he’s not alone.

At his side stands a woman with reddish hair and eyes that burn like fire. There’s something about her that sets my nerves on edge—an energy around her that feels like darkness given form.

“Shadow, it’s been a while,” Caleb says, his voice laced with mockery.

“What do you want?” Shadow responds, his tone low and dangerous.

“I just wanted to talk.” Caleb smiles, but there’s nothing kind in it. “After all, we’re family, aren’t we?”

“We have nothing to talk about.”

“Oh, I think we do.” Caleb’s eyes drift to me, and a chill races down my spine. “The human, for example.”

Shadow steps forward, his stance protective.

“Leave her out of this.”

“I can’t do that, brother.” Caleb’s smile widens. “She’s the key to everything. Don’t you see?”

Before I can process his words, the woman beside him steps forward.

“Who is she?” I ask, my voice trembling.

“Her name is Mara,” Caleb answers. “And she’s far more dangerous than she looks.”

Mara stares at me, her eyes glowing with curiosity and malice.

“So this is the human who’s caused all the trouble. I must say, I expected more.”

Anger flares within me, but before I can respond, Shadow takes another step forward.

“If you hurt her, you’ll regret it.”

“Oh, I don’t plan to hurt her… yet.” Mara smiles, revealing teeth far too sharp to be human.

The tension between us is electric, and I know we’re standing on the edge of something big. The fight isn’t over—and the danger we face is greater than we imagined.

But I won’t back down.

Not now.

Not ever.

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   77. A Breath Before the Storm

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
