Darkness is no longer an obstacle—it’s an ally.

Shadow and I move through deserted streets, the towering buildings around us rising like silent sentinels. Each step feels heavier than the last, as though the very air is thick with the weight of what lies ahead. The world now exists in fragments—transitions, fragments of motion, woven into a dangerous dance we never intended to join.

I close my eyes for a moment.

The city’s noise fades into the background.

My breathing is the only constant I have.

The only certainty.

Shadow walks beside me, always one step ahead—like he’s protecting me, and yet also setting the pace of our fate. Sometimes I glance at him out of the corner of my eye, watching the way he moves with such lethal confidence, it feels impossible we’re still alive after everything we’ve faced.

“Where are we going, Shadow?”

My voice slips between the echoes of our footsteps.

He doesn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he pauses, like he’s calculating something far beyond my reach.a safe place,” he says at last, not turning back.

As if safety were still a destination we could imagine.

But I’m not sure I believe in that promise anymore.

Safety has lost its meaning.

It’s not something we can hope for—not when our very existence is marked by danger.

They’re hunting us.

They want us.

All we know is this: we can’t stop.

Not even for a breath. Not for a single, unguarded moment.

The weight of it all crashes into me at once.

Desperation tangles with a fury I don’t fully understand.

“Safe?”

My voice comes out almost mocking, though I know, deep down, it’s what I need to hear.

“And what if there’s no such place left? What if, in the end, there’s nowhere we can hide?”

He turns then. His eyes, dark as ever, meet mine—but this time, there’s something else.

A flicker of something human. Something raw.

Something that shimmers like light caught inside a storm.

Something I can’t look away from.

“Then we fight,” he says.

And his voice is so sure, so unwavering, it feels like the world narrows to that single word.

Fight.

But what if fighting means losing everything?

What if we can’t outrun the ones chasing us, can’t escape the ghosts that haunt every shadow?

The question burns inside me—but I keep it there, buried.

Because now isn’t the time for doubt.

Not when I’m standing on the edge of losing him.

Shadow grips my wrist—not harshly, but firmly.

It doesn’t hurt.

It speaks only of one thing: a silent vow.

He won’t let me go.

He won’t let me face this alone.

But I know the truth.

In the end, no one can save us from what we are.

From what we’ve done.

And even though I want to believe, I can’t help but wonder:

This fight comes with a price.

A price neither of us may be willing—or able—to fully pay.

…...

When we reach the house, everything changes.

Despite the brick walls and the faint light filtering through dusty windows, I feel trapped inside a box.

The very walls meant to shield us now seem like they’re pressing in.

Claustrophobia claws at my chest.

The air is thick with tension, like something here is about to break.

“This is it,” Shadow murmurs.

His voice low. Weighted.

It makes my stomach tighten.

This is where we stay?

Is this where the world ends—where we make our stand?

The house is small. Bare. The scent of aging wood is overwhelming.

There’s nothing here that feels safe.

Shadow moves to a table where a pair of broken chairs wait, and he drops into one.

His gaze is lost in the darkness around us.

I stay by the doorway, trying to make sense of everything pressing in on me.

“Tell me this isn’t a mistake,” I blurt suddenly.

The words tumble out before I can stop them.

It’s a question I’ve been holding back, afraid of the answer.

I don’t know what I want him to say.

Only that I need something—anything—to hold onto.

Shadow lifts his head slowly.

And when his eyes meet mine, a shiver runs through me.

There’s no doubt in them.

No fear.

Only certainty.

“It’s not a mistake, Eve,” he says.

And the way he says my name—so thick with desire and darkness—makes my heart pause.

“It’s not. And if I have to burn everything to the ground to keep you safe, I will.”

His words strike like lightning.

What does that even mean?

What sacrifices is he willing to make to keep us together?

And more terrifying still—am I willing to become the woman he needs?

The woman worthy of such sacrifice?

….

Hours pass before silence is broken by a knock on the door.

My body tenses.

Sweat slicks my palms as I clutch the edge of the table.

Shadow rises slowly, more ominous than ever.

I don’t know who’s on the other side—but the tension is suffocating.

“Who is it?”

My whisper is barely audible, but he doesn’t answer.

He moves toward the door with a dangerous grace—like he’s bracing for the worst.

I watch him open it.

And the chill that runs down my spine is instant.

A stranger’s face appears in the narrow crack—but it’s not him that unsettles me.

It’s the look in Shadow’s eyes.

Something’s off.

Something I can’t name.

And the fear returns like a tide crashing into my chest.

“Who are you?”

My voice wavers, betraying the calm I’m trying to fake.

The stranger smiles.

And his gaze drifts toward me, a threat dressed in politeness.

“I come on behalf of those who are hunting you,” he says.

His voice is cold. Calculated.

“And I’ve come to tell you… your time is running out.”

My whole body freezes.

And in that instant, I know— The war has begun.

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   77. A Breath Before the Storm

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   76. Hearts Aflame

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   75. Howls of War

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   74. Beneath the Moon of Secrets

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
