Chapter 2

Author: Ricordi
Father's voice was delighted on the other end. "You've finally come around, sweetie! My people will pick you up in three days!"

Hanging up, I packed up everything, sorting out all the things I had of Yohan—the love letters, the portraits he drew of me, and our photos together.

Feeling no sense of attachment, I dumped everything into the hearth, allowing the flames to reduce all our memories into ashes.

'It's over between us, Yohan.'

-

Yohan didn't come home just as he said, and I was woken up the next morning by a ruckus downstairs.

A bad feeling promptly ate at me when I saw that my suitcase was gone, and I rushed down to see that Eva had taken it below, throwing the contents into the hearth.

"What are you doing?!" I bellowed as I rushed up to salvage it.

Eva waved my own clothes right at my face. "What?! I'm starting a fire! There's only this trash in the whole pack, but we can definitely keep warm with this fire!"

I was furious—starting a fire in summer?! She was doing this with a nefarious purpose!

But before I could speak, Eva picked up a vase and flung it at my head.

"Bad woman! You look just like a witch! Get out of my house!"

A bleeding hole appeared on my head right then, and I wobbled from dizziness, but I felt something catching me behind.

As I turned to see Yohan's look of concern, he asked, "Are you alright?"

However, Eva instantly burst into tears. "No!!! Yohan is leaving me! Bullying me with the bad woman!!!"

Yohan quickly let go of me and dashed toward Eva while I fell to the floor, my old wounds reopened.

I looked up to see Yohan holding Eva and sweet-talking her without even looking my way once. "Don't cry, Eva. Why would I ever leave you?"

Eva sniffed and pointed at me, "Then slap her! Slap her, and I will believe you!"

There was hesitation in Yohan's eyes, but seeing Eva's tears, he ultimately stormed up and slapped me across the face, hard.

Even my cheek swelling wasn't enough, and he glowered as he demanded, "Apologize to Eva."

I was shaking with rage, as I could see Eva smiling gleefully at me.

It was all by design—even if a five-year-old cub understood glee, they were not this evil!

-

Back in the day, when I saved Yohan who was maimed by a rival pack, I left Eva with him to take care of him while I looked for help.

When I returned, Eva had been beaten to a pulp by the enemy, her mind regressing to five.

That was why Yohan felt like he owed her everything, not knowing how many blades I had stopped with my own body for his sake, or the numerous scars left behind!

All Eva lost was her mind, while I almost died!

And now, Yohan wanted to trample over my dignity too!

"Fuck off!" I snarled through my teeth and spat the blood in my mouth on Eva's face!

"Let me give it to you straight, Yohan—I don't owe any of you anything! If Eva saved you, then you're the one who owes her! I shouldn't be made to pay!"

Even if I was nothing compared to Eva in Yohan's heart, I still had my pride as the daughter of the Alpha King!

Yohan's gaze darkened, and he didn't even bother to pretend to be nice like he usually did. "What did you pay?! You sacrificed nothing!!!"

I laughed, my tears rolling down my cheeks as I pointed at the hole on my head and lifted my shirt to bare the scars on my stomach. "Nothing, you say?! Is this not enough for you?!"

Yohan frowned ever so slightly, but he wasn't backing down. "Eva's a child, and children play around. Why do you have to be so petty?"

There it was again.

Every time Eva hurt me, he would tell me not to hold it against her because of her disability.

If I never heard how sinisterly he plotted against me, I would have really been persuaded that I was petty.

Seeing me tear up, Yohan sighed and came over, ready to comfort me.

As soon as Eva saw that, she cried even louder, so Yohan turned and coaxed her softly instead. "It's alright, don't cry. I'll punish the bad woman for you."

Turning, he barked, "Guards! Lock her in the basement cell—she's not to leave, even after the Bloodmoon inspector leaves!"

He had no idea that the inquisitor was sent for my sake, and they'd never leave until they took me home.

Laughing icily, I cried, "You will regret doing this to me, Yohan!"

Yohan glared at me coolly in turn. "No, I won't."

And with those words, I snapped my fingers, and a frenzied lycan dashed into the room, charging straight for Yohan! He was a member of the royal guard sent by my father, and his strength more than outclassed the average Alpha.Soon, the royal guard knocked Yohan to the floor, his sharp claws and teeth shredding his clothes and leaving a bloody mess.I stood and watched, my gaze cold and my heart feeling both a sense of thrill and a vague bitterness.Turning to River, I asked, "I'm no better than him now, am I?"River took my hand as she smiled, shaking her head. "No. This is the punishment he deserved and brought upon himself! You've done nothing wrong!"I turned to look at Yohan—passed out and bleeding all over—and sighed. "Come on, let's go home. I miss it."I made sure to leave a group who would continue to punish Yohan and Eva, while I returned with River to the Bloodmoon Kingdom.I had mostly healed, but my father still winced upon seeing my scars.Feeling his tender affe

However, Yohan kept coming to my room every day to dote on me, as if he never understood what I said.River told me two things about him then. The first was that he was trying to investigate who I was in secret—but it was delusional, considering that he was just an ordinary pack Alpha. The second was that he had prepared yet another marking ceremony for me, but this one was far grander than any before it.He was even emptying the pack's treasure, all so to earn my forgiveness. He really thought that I was that naive, huh? After all the things he had done, a trickle of affection wouldn't heal the scars in my heart.Once the shaman gave me the medicine to clear Yohan's suppressants from my body, I'd heal in just three days.In the meantime, I planned on how I should punish Yohan and Eva as they deserved.First, I sent River to inform Eva—whom Yohan had locked up—that Yohan was once again holding a marking ceremony for me.She was barely recognizable now after Yohan had torture

After leaving me, Yohan returned to our room.Ever since Eva convinced him she saved him, he rarely shared a bed with me, even though this room was something we had worked overnight to design together. We even planned a nursery right next to it for our pups.Instead, what did Yohan do?For Eva's sake, he fed me suppressants that stopped me from healing. Now, sitting on our bed, he stared at our old photos and remembered the good times.During spring, we would travel to the fields far away from the pack to see the blossom flowers. In the summer, we'd be relaxing at the nearby lakes, playing in the cool waters and catching fish, cooking them at the hut by the banks. He would let me take the first bite, and I would remove the bones for him.During autumn, we would stroll through the orchards, plucking the sweetest fruits from the branches. And we would make snowmen during winter…In the end, he treated his guilt toward Eva as love, disappointing me, betraying me, and ultimately

My wounds were terrible, and I passed out after I held out until we reached my room. After the shaman my doctor sent cleaned my wounds, he told River to take good care of me while he reported my condition to my father.Father contacted me when I woke up, bellowing furiously, "Why didn't you tell me that he was hurting you?! I'll make him regret ever being born!"I sighed, feeling both exasperated but also a warmth in my heart. "I just haven't tied up this loose end good enough, Dad. Just give me time—I want to deal with this myself. I'll be back when I'm done."We chatted a little too, after which I hung up and heard the knock on my door.I thought it was River, but instead, it was Yohan."What are you doing here?" I growled.Seeing the wariness in my eyes, Yohan's gaze flickered with guilt and frustration. "I heard you're really hurt, so I came to check on you…"I snorted. "What, you have no idea how I got hurt?"Yohan promptly hung his head, afraid to even look me in the eye

Thankfully, the Bloodmoon Kingdom shaman returned just then. "Alpha Yohan, I have a report on Lady Eva Brown."At the same time, I spoke through my parched lips, "Moon… Let Yohan see the report first."River nodded and promptly turned to the shaman. "What are you spacing out for? Just do it, and then help Yvie!"The panic was clear on Eva's face just then, and she kept trying to pull Yohan away from reading the report. "Yohan… I'm feeling faint. Can you carry me to bed?"Yohan coaxed her softly again. "Be good, Eva. I'll do that after the report, okay?"Seeing them flirt so inseparably, River had enough. She snatched the report from the shaman and read out loud to Yohan. "The report indicates that Eva Brown is mentally sound, and her brain shows no signs of damage!"Yohan froze. "What? Say what again?"River's eyes became even colder. "I said—Eva Brown is sane!""No, that's impossible!" Yohan bellowed as he snatched the report out of River's hand and studied it intently.Eva's

  • My Only Regret   Chapter 3

I was basically thrown into the cell and was starved for two days.My energy drained, my reopened wounds began to fester. The door opened, and while I thought it was Yohan, I heard Eva's gleeful laughter instead."Did you think it was Yohan? Oh, you're so funny, Yvie.""What are you doing here?!" I snapped, not at all surprised to see that look on her face."What, you ask?!"Eva snapped her fingers, and two male lycans leaped up at me."Let go of me!" I snarled and struggled, but I didn't have the strength to fight, completely helpless as they injected something inside me.Eva then grabbed my jaw, growling coolly, "I used to envy how you always had the Alpha to yourself, so I'm really grateful that you saved him… so that I can steal your place! As a reward, I'll give you a night you'll never forget!"She snapped her fingers again, and in came the rogue lycan who stabbed me during the second marking ceremony."W-What are you doing?!" I backed away despite my limp form. That o
