Chapter 8

ผู้เขียน: Palma W
The first hearing was scheduled for the day before the next full moon.

The hall was in the middle of the pack's territory. I'd come here for plenty of ceremonies as a kid. My father always sat up front, my mother on his right, and the twins where everyone could see them. I usually sat in the back row, ready to leave early with them if they started getting unstable.

This time, I sat in the complainant's seat.

Nora sat next to me. She was a medical witness. She wasn't there to speak for me.

  • My Werewolf Family Made Me Their Blood Bank   Chapter 12

A year later, on the night of the full moon, I completed my first stable shift in the city where I attended college. The evaluation took place at the local aid center's outdoor training field. There was no audience, no livestream, and no one demanding that I beat anyone else. Sedatives and restraint nets were still ready at the edge of the field. Nora had traveled all the way from the city I'd left behind to be there. She leaned against the railing, sipping the coffee she always drank without sugar."Start whenever you're ready," the trainer said.I stood in the middle of the field. I could smell damp grass, old claw marks on the wooden rails, and disinfectant lingering on the equipment. The sound of straps rubbing came from the training area next door.My body froze before my mind could catch up. I felt a sudden tightness around the old injury in my wrist, and the phantom whir of the blood pump came back with it.I raised my hand."Can we pause for a second?"The trainer shut off the

Inside the envelope was a provisional offer of admission. The university confirmed that my interview still counted and that my scholarship had been approved. I had ten days left to respond.I read the letter three times to make sure the scholarship had really been approved and that I really did have ten days left to respond. For the past month, ever since my father froze my benefits, I'd been worried that I couldn't afford tuition. Only now did I realize that the letter that could get me out had been sitting at home the whole time. They'd locked the door, then told me staying was the only way to be safe.I wrote back to the school that same night.Three days later, I returned to the Hollis house with Nora and members of the hearing staff to collect my belongings. The front gate stood open. The pack emblem in the yard had been taken down, leaving a lighter patch on the wall. Now that my father was no longer Alpha, the house was just the Hollis family's private home, and there was no one

The vote took two hours. While we waited, no one spoke to us. My father sat at the far end of the hallway, his back still perfectly straight. My mother remained outside the observation room, watching through the glass as Jace received an IV. Skye sat nearby, with one empty seat between them. The video had made everything clear, but it couldn't erase their habits overnight. My father was still calculating the damage to his position and the pack. My mother watched only the monitor readings. Skye still kept watch over Jace. The difference was that from now on, they could no longer demand that everyone accept only their version of events. At one in the morning, the hearing officer reopened the doors. The decision was read in six parts. For abusing his authority as Alpha, unlawfully restraining a pack member, and interfering with medical records, my father was removed from his position as Alpha, effective immediately, and barred from any role in pack security and resource allocation for thr

Before the final hearing began, the moon had already risen over the roof of the hall. The aid center had lined both sides of the hall with restraint nets and isolation barriers. As soon as Jace walked in, he sneered that they were treating him like a criminal.Nora ignored him. She just had her staff confirm the sedative doses.A small square of gauze covered the needle mark on my arm from that day's follow-up bloodwork. Jace stopped short as he passed me.His pupils narrowed to thin slits."You had blood drawn again?""Lab work."He stared at my arm, his breathing growing heavier. My mother took him by the shoulder and quietly told him to sit down, but he moved toward me as if he could no longer smell anything else.Nora raised a hand, motioning for me to step back behind the safety line.My father frowned. "Get those people out of the way. Jace is just nervous."The next second, Jace's fingers turned into claws and split the edge of the table in front of him.The hall erupted into ch

She wasn't there to speak for me.My father was still in the front row, but the hearing officer had temporarily removed the Alpha placard from his table. My mother had brought three thick medical files, and Jace and Skye sat behind her. Skye didn't look at me.The hearing officer asked my father first, "Do you admit to locking the observation room during the trial?""I admit it," my father said. "There were more than 200 werewolves at the venue. Wren had stopped her medication on her own, and her scent was abnormal. Keeping her from l

The day after my hearing request was accepted, my father froze my tuition and housing benefits. The notice came automatically from the pack's finance system and was politely worded: [Because the member's safety status is in dispute, tuition and housing benefits will be withheld until the member returns to pack territory and undergoes an evaluation.]Then my father called me."Withdraw the request, and your benefits will be restored today.""Is that a threat?""It's a reminder. Walk away from the Hollis family, and you'll have nowhere to live, no money for tuition, and no pack willing to take in someone who lost control under a full moon."His voice was as calm and steady as ever. In the past, whenever I heard that tone, I'd start wondering if I was making too big a deal out of things."The aid center can do an independent evaluation," I said."Dr. Reed is only using you to argue that families shouldn't govern their own members. Wren, outsiders never help without expecting something in
