Aiden’s pov

I walked up to them.

"What’s going on here?" I asked as I switched off the lights, causing both of them to turn toward me. Lila looked like an angel in distress.

"Just talking…" he replied smoothly. I knew that voice; he had been drilling her.

I looked back at Lila. I could see the dread and surrender in her eyes.

"She has work to do," I told him, reaching for her hand. She looked frightened and drained of color, and I knew I had to step in.

"I know, I know…" He acted like I

  • Not my spec   Chapter 182

Mathew’s povI was back home when Aiden called to tell me that Oscar had picked Lila up. What was he up to? I tossed the phone aside as the call ended. He had only one job for this vacation, so why was he acting so shady? I tried to wrap my head around his real intentions. I knew he was beginning to notice how things were playing out, maybe he was trying to figure out why I had made him stand guard at the beach house in the first place.I was the one who suggested the beach house, giving a reasonable cover story at the time. But now it felt like I was working against myself. He was my partner, and I used to tell him everything, yet lately, I had been keeping him on the sidelines. His curious mind couldn't rest, and he kept pushing to figure out what was really going on.How do I tell him that I was acting from a place of my heart and not my mind?I paced anxiously around the house, torn between two choices. Should I go back to the beach house, or wait for him here? I decided to wait.

Aiden’s povFirst, I had my bed fixed without anyone’s help and burned the old sheets in my furnace. One problem was down. Then, I called my driver and quickly hit the road, heading straight for Mathew’s place. I needed to speak with Oscar. Having the morning's incident spill out everywhere would be a disaster, so I had to make sure he kept quiet about it. When I arrived at the house, there was something strange that I’ve never experienced before, it was unusually silent.I walked in slowly. The main hall was deserted, no guards, no wolves, just towering walls and empty furniture. It was beyond strange.“Oscar!” I shouted. “Mathew!”No one answered.Where is everyone? I kept asking myself. Just as I turned around to leave, a loud scream shattered the silence. I couldn't mistake that voice, it was Mathew, shouting continuously without stopping. I heard Oscar’s mumbled voice too.I sensed trouble.I sprinted in the direction of the noise, it was headed close to the rear door, I went th

Lila’s povI could tell from Aiden’s reaction that something serious was going on. Aside from the crazy bedsheet drama this morning, another crisis had sparked. It was Day 5 of my work days here and the world seemed to be collapsing around us.Aiden had saved me, but now another issue had arisen one that felt even more dangerous. What did he mean when he said Mathew’s powerful force was pushed toward me and that he heard it, too? Did he imply that no one else was supposed to hear it? That loud deafening sound that filled the air. How could no one else hear that? Was it really just the two of us? What kind of trouble were we in? My life was becoming far more chaotic than I had ever anticipated. I was losing my footing, not just in my surroundings, but in my own mental stability. When I returned home, I was restless, consumed by the morning's events and how abruptly he had dismissed me. I had no appetite, but I knew I needed to eat to keep my strength up. Oscar had given me something e

Aiden’s povI arrived just in time to rescue her, and it was a stroke of absolute luck that I did. The moment I saw Lila collapsed on the floor in agony, instinct took over. Without a second thought, I flashed across the space, seized Oscar by the throat, lifted him off his feet, and slammed him hard against the wall.It felt as if a dark force were controlling me, dictating my every move. My hand squeezed tighter around his throat.“Aiden... please...” he gasped through gritted teeth, but I refused to listen. My vision was clouded with pure rage.“You’re hurting me...I can’t breathe, I’m sorry” he choked out, his voice barely audible as he struggled for air.“You should have thought about that before you did it,” I growled, tightening my grip even further.“But... but...” The veins on his forehead bulged, and his eyes turned bloodshot.“Blasting that noise into my ears like that, you brought this on yourself!” I snapped at him, but he managed to force out a weak denial.“No...”I pre

Lila’s pov Aiden had saved me, just as I had hoped he would. I genuinely believed I had escaped whatever persecution was waiting for me, completely unaware that a far greater danger was headed my way. A few minutes after Aiden stepped out of the room, a knock echoed against the door. Thinking it was him returning, I hurried over and pulled it open. “You took long enough to….” The words died in my throat as my eyes met someone else's. “Our fates must be sealed together...” A clown like grin spread across his face, and a wave of nausea hit me. “What are you doing here?” I asked, trying and failing to hide the tremor in my voice. “Aiden is like a brother to me. That’s like asking why I’m looking for my own brother.” He clicked his tongue and shook his head dismissively. “You're wasting your time….now can I see him? Why did he have to come right now? What do I say? Aiden had just left to look for him? Would that be good enough? What if he asks to let him in? I pressed my body

I paused and looked him straight in the eye. "Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for those sheets?" I asked. "They’ll be brought to your doorstep," he assured me. "Crazy how badly you really want them…" he added. I relaxed a bit, hoping he wouldn't notice the truth hidden beneath my fake casual act. I didn’t even turn to look at him as I pulled Lila away. Once we were safely out of his view, I broke the silence. "Was that necessary?" I asked her. She didn’
