CHAPTER 74: SILENCE BETWEEN HOWLS.

Raven’s Peak — Wedding Night

The celebration had died down to a hum. Music faded into the rustle of leaves and low murmurs as the pack dispersed, retreating to their homes, their dens, their mates. The land seemed to hold its breath around the big house — wrapped in soft laughter and clinking glasses left on tables covered in flower petals.

Inside, Asher and Ember stood alone in the quiet warmth of their shared room.

Candles flickered low on the windowsills, bathing the wood-paneled walls in golden light. A fire crackled in the hearth, its scent mingling with pine and lavender. Their joined hands hadn’t let go since the vows.

Ember stood in front of the mirror, pulling the last pins from her hair. It fell in waves down her back, wild and loose like the woman she’d always been beneath the fear.

Behind her, Asher leaned against the wall, still wearing half his suit, the other half rumpled from the dancing and hugging and clumsy kisses from pack elders who were trying not to cry.

Even when you’re tired, even when Mama’s busy?”He looked over at her, one eyebrow raised. “Because that’s what families do.”“But not everyone does.”“No,” he admitted. “But Wellesleys do.”She frowned, thinking. “Why?”He sat back on his heels, wiping his hands on a cloth. “Because we don’t run from each other when things get hard. ASHER’s POV. THREE YEARS AGO. Growing up in Raven’s Peak has been nothing but torture to me, everywhere I go I hear snickers and gossips in the air, the Moon Clan has heard the stories about my father and his affection for humans—and it is believed that I am a seed of such affection hence the delay in my ability to transform into a wolf. I have been the subject of curiosity and fascination among the Pack. Kids were warned against associating themselves with me, daughters told not to fall in love with me, it is believed I bring nothing but bad luck to the clan. I am viewed as a disease among the bloodline. My only source of strength is the love and support my father, Thane Nightshade and my best friend, Ethan Moore showed to me on a daily basis. My father has been the Alpha for as long as I can remember, everything started to go downhill the day he decided to have an affair with a human, plots were made to remove him from his position, banish him from the clan but my father stil

EMBER’s POv.“Ughhh!!” A slight groan leaves my mouth as I alight from the cab. A three hour journey from New York to this place is really tiring, I can’t even lie. A few days ago, I stumbled upon an interview done by one of America’s leading journalists and she mentioned this town. All my life, I never knew this existed because standing here, I can’t help but be in awe of what I am seeing. It is not that secluded from New York but it looks like a whole different world all together. Beautiful infrastructures and buildings. I also heard that the people of the town are friendly and welcoming. When I heard about them from the interview, my artistic mind kicked in and I rushed to get permission from the higher ups to come and check it out. Believe me, I am already loving it.“This is the last of your luggage ma’am” the cab driver says and I nod, flashing him a smile.“Thank you so much sir” I tell him.“You have my card, let me know anytime you need to take a tour around the city and I w

EMBER’s POV. After leaving Enid and the other people she introduced me to, i decide to grab a coffee before heading home. It is already a bit late and the roads have become a little empty like everyone is rushing to go somewhere. Far in the sky, i see the full moon journeying to the center of the sky. I have always been fascinated by the full moon because on such days, it feels like there is a kind of power that surges through my veins on days like this but I laugh it off. It’s not like I believe in zodiac signs or some sort of universal entity so it’s just me wanting to think wild. The night is a bit chilly so I try to hurry to the house but I stop short when I start hearing howling sounds from afar. Is there something going on that I am not aware of? I look around and there are only a few people left on the streets and they don't look like they are bothered by the sound. Either they don’t care or they can’t hear it. Mustering courage, I walk over to an old lady who is closing her

ASHER’s POV. Black long hair cascading down her back, eyes that looked like the ocean had come to me, slim yet I could see her curves from the pair of shorts and shirt she wore. Her lips are full and sultry, she was a beauty to behold. This is the perfect description of the woman seated beside me as I drive to her house. When Enid called and told me earlier about a human in Raven’s peak, I told her to send me her address. Yes, we have a lot of humans in Raven’s peak but all of them were aware of the rules and didn’t act out of the ordinary but I am sure this journalist wouldn’t do that. I had a background check done on her and I found out who she was and why she had come here. It’s not my duty to keep her safe but something inside of me wanted to and that’s why I decided to come for her myself to keep her safe.. I have come across daring young ladies and none of them ended well. You could say raven’s peak is particular about who we let in. Three years ago, I set some form of new ru

AMBER’S POV“What a day!” I say to myself as I make my way out of the shower in my bathrobe to the wardrobe, I browse through my clothes in search of my nightie, I want to be as comfortable as I can be. I need all the rest I can get. I finally found the perfect silky nightwear to drape on for the night. “Ugh!” A slight groan escaped my mouth as I finally laid in my bed for the first time in hours.Laying in bed reminiscing about how hectic of a day today was, the beautiful scenery of this town, no matter how hard I try, I can’t just seem to get the thoughts of how many beautiful pictures I’ve taken since I arrived in Raven’s Peak. The townspeople are very strange but yet welcoming and warm.. there’s beauty in the strangeness I guess. What’s with the talk of how dangerous it is to walk at night and staying indoors all night on this particular night. Something is definitely off and I can’t seem to place my fingers on it. “Asher Nightshade! Good strong name” my attention got shifted to

AMBER’S POV.Flickering my eyes rapidly as the bright light of early morning shines directly at my face. I can’t believe I let myself sleep all night in this terribly dusty and unkept basement. That’s the power of shock mixed with awe I reckon. What in the actual fuck happened last night? The Newspapers absolutely did not make mention of any wolves related stories in Raven’s Peak, did I miss that bit? Was I overwhelmed by the beauty of this town to not pick the tiny details mentioning the existence of wolves in it? I can’t even imagine all the horror stories told to us as kids concerning the existence of werewolves were true. I allowed my mind to wander around asking myself these questions while I lay still on the floor. There’s only one prominent question lingering in the back of my mind and refuses to leave “Did i make a mistake coming down here?”*Ringing* My phone jolts me outta the trance I’m in. I start digging through the boxes laying beside me because I can’t really remembe

ASHER’S POVThe moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie silver glow over the Moon Room. The air was alive with the scent of damp earth and decayed dead bodies. It was like every usual night in the small town of Raven’s Peak. But for me, this is a night of reckoning. I’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks now.I stood right in the center of the Moon Room, in the exact same spot I stood during my trial day three years ago. It still feels like yesterday, the shock on their faces when I revealed my alpha mark, the screams of the victims as I choked the life out of them.Ethan and my Father! I still get nightmares of that night, little disturbing fragments of how they died fighting by my side. I took a deep breath, the cool night air filling my lungs. Tonight, I will face my monsters. Tonight I would put an end to the ever-occurring nightmares that grips me every night for the last three years.“You stand just like him” I heard a hoarse and eerie voice behind me, and a figure comin

THE WEDDING DAYPOV: Asher Nightshade. The sun sat high above Raven’s Peak. The lawn glowed with flowers and string lights. Laughter drifted like music through the crowd as guests found their seats.Inside, Asher stood near the back porch, adjusting the cuffs of his shirt. Marisol handed him a boutonnière and nudged his arm.“You nervous?”He gave a crooked grin. “Only about the rest of my life.”Just then, Delia stepped up. She was in a slate-blue dress, hair pinned simply, but her face was unreadable.“Asher,” she said, a bit breathless. “There’s something I need to tell you before this starts.”He frowned. “What’s wrong?”Delia hesitated. “There’s someone here. Someone from Ember’s past. Jayke. Her ex.”Asher’s shoulders tensed. “What?”“He showed up just now. Said he only wanted to see her from afar. POV: Ember Wellesley.**EMBER**The night was warm for spring, the kind that smelled of moss and rain-soaked bark. Ember stood by the open window, her newborn son cradled against her chest. His breath was soft, slow, like he trusted the world completely. She rocked gently, humming something her mother used to sing—a lullaby without words, just a tune carried by the breeze and the beat of her heart.Behind her, Asher stirred in bed, his voice groggy. “You okay?”She turned with a tired smile. “He needed air. So did I.”Asher rose, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders as he came to stand beside her. Together they looked out at Raven’s Peak, the lights of scattered cabins glowing like quiet stars through the trees.“You think he’ll love this place?” Ember asked softly.“He already does,” Asher murmured, brushing a thumb along their son’s tiny hand. “It’s in his blood.”Ember nodded, then rested her head on his shoulder. “I think he’ll grow strong here. Loved. Free.”They stood like th

His coffee had gone cold in his hand. Behind him, Ember was still asleep on the couch, a blanket wrapped loosely around her shoulders, her hand resting over the swell of her belly. The sight of her, peaceful for once, tightened something in his chest. She shifted slightly, brow furrowing, then relaxed again. Asher stepped away from the window, set down the mug, and knelt beside her quietly. Her hair had fallen across her cheek. He brushed it back gently. The child was due soon. Any day now. • Alpha’s Claimed Mate   CHAPTER 70: RITES AND ROOTS.

POV: Ember Wellesley. The trail behind the cabin wasn’t marked on any map. It curved like instinct, winding through moss-covered roots and cold streams until it opened into a quiet glade — one Ember hadn’t seen since she came to Raven’s Peak. The trees there stood older, taller, closer together. Their branches knotted like clasped hands. The air shimmered with the hush of something ancient and watchful.Ember stepped into the center, barefoot, the hem of her dress soaked from dew.She could feel the pull. Not just in her blood—but in her bones. Like the very earth was reaching up to cradle her.She knelt.Laid both palms to the ground.Closed her eyes. And listened. No incantation. No ceremony. Just stillness. At first, there was nothing but the wind. Then, a low hum beneath it.Like a breath. Like a heart.Images bloomed behind her eyelids: wolves circling under starlight. Akira’s silver talisman. A great white tree in the distance, hollowed with age and memory. The mountain—cracked
