That night, Angelina went home alone. Hans had already called her earlier, saying there was an urgent matter at the office he had to take care of. Angelina only sighed, not making a fuss about it. Besides, the two bodyguards seated in the escort car behind her were more than enough to make her feel safe.

But on the increasingly deserted road, a black car suddenly sped from the opposite direction, then stopped right in front of her. Angelina instinctively slammed the brakes. Her car screeched to a halt, and her heart pounded wildly.

“What the hell is this…” she muttered, eyes narrowing at the sight ahead.

A man stepped out of the black car. His stride was heavy, deliberate. A cap shadowed part of his face, the rest hidden behind a mask. He walked closer, then knocked harshly on Angelina’s window.

“Open up!” His voice was deep, baritone, dripping with threat.

Angelina stayed silent, gripping the wheel tightly while keeping her eyes locked on his every move.

“No breakfast for lazy people!”Evelyn’s voice echoed through the dining room as her hand swiftly snatched the plate of toast away from Moreen.“Mommy!” Moreen exclaimed in shock, her face flushing with restrained anger. “You’re so stingy. Give it back! I’m hungry too.”“Don’t be insolent, Moreen!” Evelyn sneered, her eyes filled with hatred. “I made this toast especially for my son, not for you!”Her tone grew sharper. “A woman like you should know your place. You’re only a guest in this house, so don’t you ever act like the mistress here. If you’re hungry, make your own toast!”Moreen froze for a moment, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, yet her lips stubbornly held back. She refused to cry in front of her mother-in-law.Just as the atmosphere grew heavier, footsteps approached. Axton entered, standing beside the dining table, his gaze shifting between the two women. Old memories came flooding back—he used to watch his mother scold Angelina for defending Moreen. Now, the tables

Angelina tossed and turned in bed—on her back, on her left side, then her right. Her eyes stayed wide open, fixed on the darkness of the ceiling. Restlessness gnawed at her chest. Finally, with a long sigh, she sat up. Her bare feet touched the cold marble floor as she walked slowly toward the desk in the corner of her room. She sat down and opened her laptop, which had been lying idle since the afternoon. For a moment, she froze, staring at the blank screen that faintly reflected her own face. “Okay, let’s try tonight,” she murmured under her breath, as though giving herself courage. Her fingers began to dance over the keyboard—swift, steady, as if long accustomed to handling complicated codes. On one of her data-hacking programs, she typed in the name that had haunted her thoughts for days. Barron Cross. It took only seconds for the screen to load results. Angelina leaned in, her eyes widening as she read line after line of information.“No way…” she whispered, her voice catching.T

After her long conversation with Hans, Angelina walked back toward her office. But the moment the door swung open, her steps froze. Her eyes widened. Another bouquet of flowers lay on her desk—more disturbing than the one she had found two days ago.The petals were withered, blackened, and carried that same pungent perfume that stung her nose. Angelina’s heart pounded violently.“Damn it!” she hissed, her voice filled with frustration. Without a second thought, she grabbed the bouquet and hurled it into the trash. Her hands trembled slightly, but she straightened her back, refusing to look weak. She pulled out her chair, sat down, and dug her phone from her bag. Quickly scrolling through her contacts, she pressed on one name. When the call connected, Angelina’s voice was sharp.“Don’t you dare threaten me! I’m not the same Angelina as before, do you hear me, Axton?”A chilling laugh came from the other end, soft at first, then twisting into a mocking echo that made her skin crawl.“Do

“Tomorrow, come to the office. I’ll explain everything there,” Hans’s voice was steady yet heavy, as if carrying something too difficult to put into words.Angelina fixed her gaze on him, her eyes brimming with curiosity. “Why not now, Hans? So I don’t die of curiosity.”Hans exhaled deeply. His fingers clenched for a moment before relaxing again. “It’s not because I want to delay, but there are documents I need to show you. Without them, my story will sound like nothing more than a bitter fairy tale.”Angelina fell silent for a moment. Her heart wavered between curiosity and compassion. She knew Hans was battling wounds that never healed. “Alright,” she whispered, trying to steady herself. “I’ll come to your office at lunch tomorrow.”Hans lowered his head, as though relieved that Angelina wasn’t pressing him further. “Thank you, Angelina. I just need a little time.”Angelina offered a faint smile, though her heart felt heavy. She understood that speaking about the Derox family’s pas

At five in the afternoon, Angelina had already tidied up her desk. Today she truly didn’t want to work overtime. A meeting with an important client had been postponed unilaterally, giving her a rare moment of free time. She intended to use the opportunity to go shopping, replacing some items in her apartment that had begun to feel increasingly dull.Just as her hand reached for the director’s office door, her heartbeat quickened. A tall, broad figure stood there, startling her.“Hans!” she gasped, her breath caught. “Since when have you been standing here?”Hans leaned casually against the wall, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Not long,” he replied calmly.Angelina raised an eyebrow. “Don’t you have work to do?”Hans only gestured in response, but Angelina understood. “And you?” Hans asked back.“Yes, Hans. I’m going shopping. There are a few things I want to replace in my apartment,” she said honestly, a little rushed, not wanting to cause any misunderstanding.Hans lowered his h
