LOGINEDDY
Our eyes met.
She was standing there, nak*d, and covered in sweat. Her stare was uneasy as they flickered against mine.
It looked as though she was doing something she shouldn't be doing. I wondered what it could be.
My eyes shifted to the small heap of her costume for the night on the floor. Wet and abandoned with contempt, most likely.
I couldn't stop the grin that spread across my face.
After tonight's incident, I wanted to meet Lola.
Not because I was concerned about whatever it was she felt, I just thought she might have a lot to say to me, and I'd rather take that before the break of the next day.
Her sight disgusted me, reminding me of why I had to make a decision to be stuck with her for life, against my will.
"I can see you are doing good. Hot shower. Happy vibes. No worries," I clicked my teeth.
Pain paired with hatred glistened in her eyes as she stared hard on.
I knew that feeling because I have felt it ever since I knew myself as a person. She had no idea.
"Am I wrong?" I propped my head forward, peering more into her eyes as they threatened to swallow me whole.
She didn't lift a muscle. She just kept staring, her breathing growing harder with the way her chest rose and fell.
I sighed.
"I mean, think about it. I knew you would have done better if the stitches didn't----"
"EDDY!!!!!!"
Her voice, which was a sudden bash, dense and long, rang harshly against my ear drums, causing me to tilt my head in a subconscious effort to dampen its effect.
Her breathing was an uncontrolled mess as she glared hard at me, every possible part of her body vibrating.
Within me, I was fighting a deliberate war not to lash out harshly on her.
She has no idea what her presence in my life has changed and how much I have to sacrifice to keep that balance.
"I want a divorce," she blurted out, like it was her first time suggesting it.
It was funny. My expression broke into a mocking laughter — that's exactly how she'd interpret it.
What Lola would never know was that even I have tried too.
If divorce was possible, she wouldn't be standing in front of me.
So, right about now, she was trying to mock me — that was exactly how I interpreted it.
I snarled, biting down on my teeth to keep my emotional rage from exploding.
Lola already made the headlines. It wouldn't be too great if she pops up again for something even crazier than the first.
"Do you think you can have some shame and find some clothes?" I nibbled on my words, like even talking about her disgusted me.
"Is there really more you can do to me?"
Her response came almost immediately, one would think she had rehearsed for the moment.
Lola could be unfazed with her responses some times, and so timid to even look me in the eyes on other times.
It makes me feel I am not doing enough. Knowing that threatens me, and my position in all of this.
I swallowed, adjusting my stance, ready to give her a taste of what she was desperately asking for.
"Whatever has happened to you, I'm not sorry, but it is all your fault."
Her glare widened, like she was actually lost on what I was talking about.
"You know what to do. Don't sit back on your task and heap the blame on me when things start to go wrong."
My voice was hard against my throat, and I was becoming impatient trapped in the bathroom on account of such meaningless conversation.
Lola shook her head as if discouraging herself from saying the first set of words that had hit her tongue.
"Call your lawyer. Let's get a divorce," she pulled violently, her body swaying in line with the rising and falling of her tone.
"Your opinions became totally useless when you agreed to marry me," I blurted out in response.
My ear caught the faint sound of her breathing dip, and for all I cared, she could drop right there and I wouldn't even move a muscle.
"What will you have me---"
"Shush! Shuuuuush! Don't do that, okay? You've come too far to give up on happiness. Own it. Don't let it go," I continued, moving in closer to where she stood.
Her eyes were glossy with tears and her boldness visibly withered.
She continued to take one step after another backwards as I continued to move in on her.
When she exhausted the space behind her, her back crashed against the wall, her hand grabbing the base of the wash hand basin, knocking over the tube of mouth wash.
I stared at her trembling fingers, and the way her flesh bulged out along her hand.
"I am convinced getting stuck with you is the greatest punishment I have ever had to endure," I said, meaning every single word.
There was no way my father didn't know what he was doing.
"Then, let me go. Eddy---please," her voice trailed off, broken, exhausted.
I didn't look at her face.
"I want to, but you're not helping me here," I replied, my words as cold as my heart felt, barely above a whisper.
Frustration clawed at my stomach as my eyes moved along her body — her neck, her shoulders and then, down her lower parts.
Lola had clear skin. Not like I care. I probably have seen her nak*d a thousand and one times, but I never took my time to check her out.
She was big, but her curves were distinct and perfectly positioned.
"Is there something else I can do? Connor doesn't seem like he is going to ever yield."
Her voice was firm, her words tight. I could sense the determination to escape to a safer space than she was at the moment.
But...
F*ck you, Lola!
You should have been able to stop this.
If I wasn't, it meant you most definitely was able, but you didn't.
You saw an opportunity to dig wealth, and went heads on without considering the risk.
You are going to have to bear the consequences of the situation you started until I am able to find a way out finally.
"Make him. Freedom has never been easy," I replied, calmly, breathing in every other word I would have said.
I could imagine her eyes flickering in confusion, her chest rising and falling to my words which were way more threatening than they sounded.
I continued to trail my eyes along her body, looking for the moment where I got captivated in the slightest, enough to make me want to even consider a moment with her, enough to make me not see her as the cause and the enemy, but I couldn't find any.
As long as this marriage was concerned, to me, Lola was ridiculous and just another means to remind me of how inefficient and dependent I was as a Langford.
"If I were you, I would think harder on how to make things work," I snapped, gritting my teeth as I proceeded out of the bathroom, frustration burning through my chest.
I knew I had pushed Lola, and I couldn't wait for a rebound.
FREDDYThrough practice, I couldn't stop thinking about Lola. Maybe because I knew she was watching me like old times, and it sparked feelings that ought to have stayed buried until forever.Through the banter between her, my father and Eddy, I couldn't care less. I just stayed at the parts of her body that weren't concealed under the jacket draped across her shoulders. As soon as I got the opportunity to ask, I took it, and of course, Lola couldn't say No to me.It was a little hard convincing my coach to allow me to stay outside the team house. By the time I had concluded with the boys, checked into a hotel room, got a shave and freshened up, time was far spent. As I scurried into the elevator for the fifth floor, I wondered if she was waiting up for me or perhaps, given up and gone to bed.But then, Eddy was there. I didn't expect him to be. I didn't turn back though. I hadn't made all of those arrangements to chicken out of his presence."You shouldn't have said that, Freddy. What
LOLAAnother knock broke out against my door — sharp, impatient. My breathing seized for a second."Freddy!" I muttered, clutching tight at the material initially hanging between my fingers. My eyes were watery from my own arousal, and I couldn't wait to finally be able to feel the emotions that remained unlocked in my heart. My cheeks burnt red. I was so embarrassed that I packed up the box and shoved them under the sheets.Adjusting the belt of my bath robe, I did a short breathing exercise to keep my voice firm.Clutching the knob of the door, I took one last deep breath before yanking it open.I gagged, my chest tightening to the sight in front of me. Not only did I not expect to see Eddy in front of my door by the time of the night, I was too fired up to handle whatever he had come to say.It was ridiculous, but I wondered if he was here because of what I said to him at the stadium, and I feared we might end up doing something we both would regret by morning."Hi, Eddy," my voice
LOLAWith my heart hammering hard against my chest, I hurried through the lonely path that led back to the stadium where the rest of the family ought to still be.I was sure practice had ended, and me missing right in that moment wouldn't look too good. The plan was to get there first, and then, Connor could come later.Standing before my father-in-law, all sweaty, my breathing giving away the fact that I had jogged all the way back, I thought of the best response to a question he had not even asked."We had been done for a while now. We were worried," Greg spoke, his eyes scanning every inch of my body in a way that felt rather uncomfortable.Struggling to keep my breathing steady and my shoulders up, I looked from my father-in-law to Eddy — his face was locked in an expression that told me just how much he wanted to say and how he was just waiting for the right time to come at me.Freddy was standing behind them, arms folded across his chest, skin glazed with sweat and his gaze send
CONNORI wasn't a hockey person. I loved playing and watching outdoor games, but not hockey. Any other thing can work, not just hockey. Nevertheless, I had travelled to Norway with the Langfords to support Eddy's younger brother's game which was upon request by the director. He had texted me about it, and because Lola was going too, I knew I had to be there.Eddy might be right. I was there because of his wife, but there was a continuation of that truth Eddy didn't bother to add.I was there because I wanted to make sure his wife was protected from him.Through the flight, I had noticed Lola's discomfort, but I didn't get the opportunity to ask her why even until we had to watch skating on the ice. When I became fed up pretending like I was enjoying the practice game, I excused myself and went in search of even greater fun."Miss what?" she asked, the tension in her voice breaking apart."Get here first," I urged, leaning against the closest wall to me."What did you say?" her voice
LOLAI was mostly to myself through the flight, my thoughts everywhere, and my body doing a good job staying calm despite the storm that brewed underneath my skin.It was a long journey. When we touched down at the Norway airport, I was too tired to even think straight, and I felt too sleepy. I couldn't wait to be ushered into our rooms, then take a long hot shower and hide under the blankets, away from the reality I could never actually ever run from. Then, my father in law's words delivered like a blow to my face, "We will watch his practice tonight.""What the heck!" Eddy blurted out, his voice rising above his usual beat."You heard me, Eddy," Mr. Greg shot at him, looking around to make sure nobody had any other objection.Eddy was obviously not comfortable with the plan. He sighed, tugging at his tie uncomfortably as he paced around the space in front of him.Connor, on the other hand, stood at a distance with his hands folded, and his face holding a solid neutral expression.I
EDDYMy father makes the most spontaneous decisions. No wonder it was always difficult to work with him, and he thinks I am still not good enough.I pulled out another stick from the cigarette pack I had in my other hand. Sighing, I lit it and had drawn a long puff from it when I noticed someone was loitering beside me."We just had to board a flight when we had better options," I sighed, leaning back on the wall of the cabin. I was pissed standing as a family with Freddy, Lola and my father. Freddy was a freaking rival as long as I was concerned, and Lola? an intruder that was going to be done serving her purpose soon. So, I had strolled to a quiet corner to get a smoke or two."It's just impossible to please that old man!" I snapped, stomping my feet hard on the ground, pulling my jacket closer, and readjusting my scarf to cover my face.I drew another long puff from my cigarette, releasing it towards the mass of fog in front of me, my brain suddenly getting weary of the other pres
LOLAI swallowed, closing my eyes to the pain of the moment suddenly ending because of the same thing I had feared.I was back in my room - the room I shared with Eddy, and I was sitting n*ked on the toilet seat, my face pressed hard against my palms when I remembered that I had forgotten my flops
LOLAMy feet hurried across the corridor, past the first room, then the second, and I was standing in front of Eddy's room.My heart was beating faster than it was while I waited for my fate at the breakfast table a while back. Not because I wanted my brother-in-law to touch me again under my husb
LOLAI had been sitting at the table for over fifteen minutes. Alone. The dining room was the kind of large that feels larger when you are the only person in it. I sat at my usual spot - the chair closest to the window that nobody else wanted because the morning light came in at an angle that made
FREDDY"Fredmon!" I heard a voice call out from a distance not very far from the bathroom door.My body moved before my brain thought - I grabbed the towel off its hanger with one hand, the other working hard to secure the material around my waist, the whole operation executed with the graceless ur
