KAELION POV

Something had changed.

Her body language, her tone, and the way she could not look me straight in the eyes. It was all so obvious.

The last time I saw her this way was when I took her brother Thlaric captive and had her surrender to me.

“Wait up,” I said, watching her walk into the woods but she kept walking without looking back. “You are going the wrong way.”

This made her stop and look back at me.

“I know you hate me for what I did to your pack, but I am only asking that we work together without fighting,” I stated. “It is only until you go back to your family.”

“Fine,” She responded. “I have rules too.”

“I am all ears,” I said, moving closer to her.

“You let me keep the stone for my safety until we are done,” She said. “Two, you do not question me, we do this way.”

“Okay,” I answered.

Her plans seemed to have worked so far, It would not hurt to give her a chance.

“It's this way,” I muttered going the opposite way from where she was earlier headed. “The other way leads to the border.”

Seliora and I walked back home in silence. She didn't say a word the whole twenty minutes and neither did I.

After we arrived back at the pack house, Jackson who was standing right at the pack gate with some of the pack guards rushed towards me.

“Where were you all night?” He asked, in a low tone. “I was worried something had happened to you.”

“It was raining heavily, I had to take shelter at the hut,” I answered, watching Seliora walk away.

“With her?” Jackson asked again in a low tone. “You were with her all night?.

“It's nothing, Jackson. I only had to stay there with her because of the rain,” I stated.

“That place was one of Misha’s favourite places to be. Have you forgotten? You both had your first date by the river,” Jackson said.

How could I ever forget that?

I could still recall how she was dressed in a yellow sunflower dress and I was now nervous. I didn't want to mess it all up.

I had set up a table and a chair right across the river with some food and a bottle of wine.

After we began to eat, all the anxiety I had melted away.

She loved it.

“It's nothing, Jackson,” I stated firmly. “What are you insinuating?”

“Nothing,” He responded. “I just want you to know you are spending so much time alone with her, you are still grieving. This might mess with your head and cloud your judgment,” Jackson said.

“Alpha Thane is missing, we have to find him,” I muttered, ignoring what he had just said.

“I thought you wanted to kill him, why do we need to find him?” Jackson asked.

“He is the only that can tell us what really happened,” I said, wondering how I was going to tell Jackson I had decided to let him live.

“You are going to kill him, aren't you?” Jackson asked.

“I have decided not to,” I answered, walking away.

Jackson would have a lot of questions and I just was not in the right frame of mind to answer him.

“It's because of her, you are sparing Misha’s killer because of her. She has gotten into your head,” Jackson said, following behind me. “What happened to the countless weeks you spent plotting to take revenge on him?”

“I have gotten what I wanted, Jackson. I might not have killed him but I wiped out an entire pack. That's enough revenge,” I said, walking into the pack's living room.

“What happened to the promise you made to Misha then? You promised to kill the one who murdered her, didn't you?” Jackson stated.

Hearing him say this made my heart sink.

I looked back at where he stood and instructed the guard at the door to leave.

“It's not going to bring her back, I am moving forward, Jackson. Isn't that all you have been trying to get me to do,” I uttered, firmly.

Jackson was never totally in support of my revenge plans against the Ember Fang Pack. Even though he never said it out loud, I always felt it.

It was why I had Rex follow me on the day of the attack instead of him.

“I have been trying to get you to move on not start spending time with the daughter of the man who killed your mate!” Jackson said, staring me straight in the eyes. “You let her make decisions, Kaelion. You listen to her, this is not going to end well. I can feel it.”

His eyes were burning with so much rage.

You know I am only doing this to find out why her father attacked my pack. I need to at least know why Misha was killed,” I uttered, moving closer to him.

“Then let her go or kill her,” Jackson said. “You don't believe she is just going to go back to her pack after all this is over and forgive you right? That girl right here is a danger to all of us here especially with the kysnite stone in her custody.”

Jackson had somehow found out Seliora had the stone.

“She isn't going to use it on anyone, it is only to guarantee her safety,” I whispered, in a low tone.

“She is going to use you to find her father and kill us all afterwards,” Jackson said. “You have to take the kysnite stone from her and decide what you want to do with her soon.”

A part of me believed every word that came out of Jackson’s mouth while another part was starting to trust Seliora.

But could I really trust her?

I have taken too much from her, she could have saved me all those times just because she was searching for the perfect moment to strike.

Maybe all she was waiting for was the moment to end me on her own terms.

SELIORA POVThis side of Kaelion was soft and completely different. It always made me question whether he was the same person I saw in the ballroom on the day he attacked my pack.“I should get some sleep,” I muttered, turning towards the other side, away from him.The only thing that mattered to me was getting my father out of wherever he was and going back to my mother and Thlaric.I closed my eyes but I found it hard to sleep. All I could hear only the sound of the rain pattering against the roof. After a few more minutes of just lying down, I decided to get up and go sit outside for a while. I slowly removed the blanket over my body so as not to alert Kaelion and stood from the bed.“Where are you going?” Kaelion asked, startling me.I assumed he would already be asleep.“I need some air, I am going to sit outside for a while,” I responded, looking back at him. “I am coming with you,” He stated, standing up and picking up the blanket. “You should not be alone out there.”He wal
