Chapter Three

Reiner’s POV

I rolled my eyes at the two women sitting across from me. “Why do you care if he is missing?” I snapped. I couldn’t help it. Going to another wedding while I remained mate less just rubbed salt in the already raw wound. The two women looked at each other both equally worried.

“We apologize for bothering you, Alpha. It’s just, that he was our sister’s son. He is all we have left of her. Please Alpha, please help us find him.” Their eyes teared and they looked tired, as though they hadn’t slept in a very long time. The pack had returned two days ago but, their nephew was not there.

“Yes, of course,” I answered trying to hide my annoyance. “I will send out warriors to find him. They should have him home by dinner.” I tried my best to sound optimistic despite my sour mood. I usually tried to show compassion but today showing anything, but aggravation was hard.

The two women shared glances before standing up. “Thank you, Alpha, you are most generous.” They both left quickly as though I may change my mind if they stayed too long.

I let out a long sigh. Why? Why do I have to worry about some pimply-faced teenager? He probably met some female and is busy with her. The thought pissed me off. Even teenagers get more action than me. Damn my drunken oath to stay celibate after almost doing the pack whore in front of everyone. Roxy the Foxy. I shook my head thinking about her. She had those long legs that every guy loves, perfect curves, and plump lips. My mood darkened as I thought of her.

“Man, you need to get laid.” My beta Chase said as he walked towards my desk.

“Yeah, well find me my mate and I will.” I didn’t bother to hide the annoyance in my voice. He knew about my oath and used every opportunity to tease me about it. Sending whores to my room, getting me drunk, and leaving me with some pretty girl. I had almost slipped on a few occasions. I mean, it’s not like I am a virgin. I had fun in high school. Many girls in my pack had their share of me. Roxy had been my downfall. She had found her mate in another pack. She hadn’t told anyone. As wolves, we are loyal to our mates. The Moon Goddess designed us that way. She had given every wolf a mate who was destined for them. Sometimes, wolves never found their true mate. Those situations were always hard. Every wolf wants their mate. Those unlucky souls who did not find their mate was allowed to choose a mate or stay alone for their entire life. As an Alpha, I could choose a mate anytime I wanted. I didn’t want just any mate; I wanted my mate. The mate promised to me by the Moon Goddess. When I almost did Roxy that night, her mate showed up as we were both naked on the table. When she saw him, she screamed and tried to pretend I was forcing her. He tried to attack me but was stopped by my guards. After the situation was sorted out, she left with her mate but not before I forbid her to ever step foot on my pack lands again.

“Earth to Alpha, are you there?” Chase chuckled as he watched my expression change back to annoyance. “There has been an Alpha calling for a couple of days now. She is currently on hold on line 2. She says she has to speak with you directly.”

I groaned, the last thing I wanted to deal with was another Alpha right now. Wait, did he say ‘she?’ “Chase?”

“Yeah?”

“Did you say the Alpha on hold is a ‘she’?” I asked.

“Yeah, Alpha Myla, you know, from the Red Moon Pack.” He looked down for a minute, then he chuckled. “You may know her better as the “Bitter Alpha,” he laughed as the words left his mouth.

I rolled my eyes. The Red Moon Pack was quite a distance from my pack lands. I was in no mood to deal with an Alpha trying to sign an alliance with me. “Tell her I am unavailable, I don’t care what excuse you give her, I just do not want to talk right now.”

Chase stood up walking towards the door. He purposely left the door open a bit as he picked up the phone. “Alpha Myla? No, I am not Alpha Reiner, I am his Beta Chase. Yes well, he is unavailable right now. Why? Well, he is currently in a foursome in his office. Yes Ma’am, I will be sure to give him your message. Yup, thank you. Bye.” Chase was laughing hysterically as he came back into my office. “How was that for an excuse?” he laughed watching my unamused expression.

“Great Chase, just great.” I shook my head in annoyance. Deciding to try and lighten my mood, I chuckled with him imagining the look on the face of the “Bitter Alpha.” “Ok, back to business, we need to find this missing kid, Cobalt.”

I assembled some warriors, I told them the information about the missing kid. They headed out into the forest the way we had come in from the wedding. Once they were out of sight, I headed back into my office.

I had sent the warriors. I went back to doing paperwork.  I came across a request for my presence at the Alpha Summit. I checked the box marked "no." I slipped it into the return envelope as I threw t in the pile of outgoing mail. I was getting bored. I thought about going out tonight but after last time, I wasn't sure how good an idea that was.

I let my thoughts go back to the night with Roxy. I had way too much to drink that night. She had looked so hot in the skimpy red dress with the thigh-high black leather boots. I had been watching her all night. I don't know how it had happened but I ended up naked, my junk hanging out everywhere. She was sitting on the table. Every time I glanced her way, she spread her legs flashing me, she wasn't wearing any panties. I made my way over to her, she smiled seductively. She grabbed me, her hand slid up and down my hardening shaft. I moaned. She pulled me closer to her. Being drunk, I had no idea what I was doing. Everyone was laughing and cheering. I was about to do her when someone grabbed me. I was spun around, a fist landed in the middle of my face. I heard my nose crack and felt the blood run down my face. I couldn't help it, even drunk I was not going to allow someone to hit me. I snarled as I charged forward, I pounced on the guy. Without thinking, I rained punches on his face. I didn't care when I heard his bones cracking. I didn't care when he tried to cover his face and begged for mercy. I heard him yell saying she was his mate. I still didn't care. I wanted to kill him.

I felt someone grab my arms pulling me backward. If I hadn't been drunk, it wouldn't have worked. Chase's voice broke through the noise of the crowd.

"Dude, chill man! He's defending his mate! Let it go!" Chase yelled.

I heard what he said, the other wolf was defending his mate. I looked down at myself covered in his blood. I stopped fighting letting Chase pull me away. When we went outside, someone had a phone pointed at me.

"Alpha Reiner, now that you nearly killed an innocent wolf, what do you have to say for yourself?"

I looked into the camera, "I Alpha Reiner hereby swear an oath to remain celibate until the day I find my destined mate." After that, I passed out falling face-first into a pile of trash waiting on the curb to be picked up.

I shuddered as I remembered the headlines the next day. "Alpha steals mate then beats heartbroken wolf."

It had been horrible. I spent so much time trying to do damage control. My parents had been fuming mad. They threatened to take away my title and make me a rogue. I never heard the end of it. When they left the last time I would see them alive, their last words were "stay away from mated wolves and alcohol." They were killed in a car crash the next day. After that, I took my oath seriously. It was getting harder and harder to stand by it. As a male, my instinct is to find my mate and have pups. As an Alpha, it is amplified. My wolf has been restless wanting his mate. It has added to my foul mood. I knew I would have to find my mate soon or I would be forced to take a mate.

Taking a mate wasn't what I wanted. I wanted my mate given to me by the Moon Goddess. I knew I had one. I felt like I had been looking forever.
