LOGINTatum's P.O.V.
I can't believe I have my mate in the car with me going to my apartment. I talked to her the entire time I sat with her in the hospital, hoping she could hear me and would get used to my voice. When she woke up and said I made her feel safe, I almost started crying with happiness. After everything she's been through, my presence comforted her. I'm sure it's because of the mate bond, but I find it encouraging and hope that means she'll accept me.
When we pull up to my building she looks out the window with widened eyes. The building is one of the nicest in the city, but just because I'm a billionaire doesn't mean I want the penthouse. I'm just renting a two-bedroom.
"You live here?" Sasha asks, turning to look at me.
"Yeah, in one of the smaller apartments," I don't go around flashing my money, and I don't like to waste it on frivolous things. I prefer to help others with the money I make.
"Mr. Grant." The driver opens my door, and I see Sasha freeze.
"Tatum Grant? You're Tatum Grant?" She's almost whispering.
"Yes." I watch her expression and wonder which way this is going to go. Is she turned off by rich people or a gold digger? Right now, I'm not sure because she's not moving.
"Uh, why don't you just take me home?" She says, sitting back in her seat. I know she has to be in pain, but right now, the hurt in her eyes is from something else.
"Why?" I ask with concern. I pull the car door shut so we can talk privately.
"I'm a woman with two jobs and no money. I live in an apartment about the size of one of your closets. People like you don't socialize with people like me. People in your class step on people like me to get what they want." Sasha looks like she's going to cry, while at the same time, I can tell she's angry. I reach over and take her hand.
"Yes, I have money, but I'm not like that. I spend a lot of money helping others. I would never step on anyone to make myself better. Please come upstairs with me and I'll prove it to you." My heart breaks when she turns toward me with tears running down her face.
"I have nothing. When I say nothing, I mean nothing. I'm one paycheck away from losing my apartment. I've had my electricity turned off more times than I can count because I can't afford to pay the bill. Why would you want to help someone like me? I'm nothing compared to you." She turns away and starts sobbing. I have a feeling there's more behind this story than just me having money. I can't stand seeing her cry, so I carefully lift her off the seat and sit her across my lap. Sasha doesn't try to stop me and lays her head on my shoulder.
"Don't say you're nothing. Sasha, I want to help you because I've felt a connection with you from the minute I found you in the alley. I would have helped anyone I found, but with you, it was different. When the ambulance took you away, I ran to the hospital so I could be with you after talking with the police. I held your hand and talked to you the entire time I was there. Please come upstairs with me. I have some things I want to talk to you about, and I want to make sure you're okay." I know I'm begging, but I can't let her leave. She looks up at me with her big brown eyes.
"Okay. For now." I'm not going to give her time to change her mind, so I open the door and get out of the car with Sasha in my arms. She tries to get down, but I hold her tight.
"You have a concussion. I don't want you to get dizzy, so I'll carry you." I walk to the door, and the doorman opens it, looking at the woman in my arms in surprise.
"Hello, Mr. Grant." I nod and continue through the lobby to the elevators. Sasha feels so light in my arms. She probably hasn't been eating right.
"Are you hungry?" I ask as we ride up to the twelfth floor.
"I'm fine." That's code for she's hungry but doesn't want to put me out. We exit the elevator, and I carry her down the hall to my apartment. It's at the end of the hall. Sasha again tries to get down, but I don't let her. I push the code on the door, and it slides open. For once, I'm thankful for their modern technology when it comes to the doors. I carry her inside and sit her on the black leather couch. I feel like I can breathe now that I have her inside, and it’s just the two of us. I have my mate.
Anya's P.O.V. We return to the misfits' house with a lot more people than we started with, but looking around, it feels like we're a big family. Even the new people have relaxed and realized that they can fit in with us. We don't all have to be of the same species to be a family. Every one of us came from a bad situation, feeling as though we were all alone until we found each other."What are you smiling at?" Jordan asks as he wraps his arms around me from behind. "Our family. We just met you guys yesterday, and look at how much we have grown already. Did you ever think the misfits would have this many people?" So many have found their mates, but many others are still waiting. Hopefully, we will come across their mates too. "Part of me was saddened every time we added a new member because that was one more shifter that had been hurt. However, what we all went through has made us stronger. We wanted to find that connection with our other half, and several of us have now. Many
Sally's P.O.V.I stare at the large man whose scent makes my heart go haywire, and I can't believe it. I saw him show up with the others while waiting for them to return. I'm anxious to get out of here and away from this pack, but I never dreamt they would bring my mate when they came through the portal. He's gorgeous, with black hair that reaches his shoulders and piercing gray eyes. We slowly make our way to each other as everyone else fades away. What if he doesn't want me after all the terrible things Doug did to me? When the man gets close, he takes a deep breath and smiles slightly."Hello. What's your name?" His voice is so deep that I feel it all over my body."I'm Sally. I'm a bunny, but not one of the Biker Bunnies. Alpha Doug bought me from my parents when I was fourteen. I'm eighteen now." I'm rambling, but I don't know what else to say. "I'm Brandon, and I'm a panther. I've been a rogue since I was able to walk because my parents were killed. We both came from bad situat
Calvin's P.O.V. Alan had Dale and me fly overhead while they chased the witch on foot. Her magic may have made them disappear, but it didn't stop Alan from mindlinking us."She took us to her hut, and we're all in cages. We need your help. My magic isn't strong enough to free us and deflect the spell she has on us. She's not aware that I can mindlink and still use some magic. Delaine can, too. If you can come to the hut to distract her, we can get free and kill her. We'll let everyone else out of the cages once she's gone. I don't want her hurting anyone in desperation." "We're on our way," I reply as Dale and I fly toward the hut. "How do you want to play this?" Dale mindlinks."You do one of your dragon growls and make her come outside. I'll swoop down and nip her. We just need to keep her distracted long enough for Alan and Delaine to get out of here," I reply as we reach the hut. Dale's dragon can't kill her with his fire or chomp her because she's a witch. Normal fire has no e
Delaine's P.O.V.After the misfits jump through the portal, I take deep breaths, trying to calm my nerves. I know this is a huge risk to all of us, but if we're going to rescue Sydney and Lindy, it's one we're all willing to take. I look at Dallas and Daylan, who both look like they're ready to kill. "Come on in, sweetheart. She's heading our way," Alan mindlinks me. I love hearing his voice in my head."On our way," I reply. "Alright, let's go get them." I approach the portal and say a quick spell that I hope will help us go undetected for at least a short time. After I jump in, everyone else follows. We're in a forest, but everything is dead. It's pitch black, and if it wasn't for our shifter vision, we wouldn't be able to see anything. None of us says anything as we slowly walk through the forest."We're in, but I have no idea where we're going." I mindlink Alan."Just follow your instincts. She's trying to sneak up on us, so you're in the clear for right now. Be careful. I
Alan's P.O.V.Whoever this witch is who took Sydney and Lindy has some powerful magic. Typically, I can get a trace of another person, but her presence is strong. That can help us, but also hurt us. She has to be extremely old and be an expert in her craft. Getting to the women won't be easy. "What are you thinking?" Delaine asks, taking my hand. When she touches me, I instantly feel like I can think clearly. We may have known each other for less than a day, but she's already my rock. "I have an idea, but it's going to be risky," I tell her, kissing her forehead. Delaine looks up at me and smiles slightly. "I trust you. If it gets Syd and Lindy back, that's all that matters, so tell us your plan," she says while pulling me toward the others. "Everyone, listen up. Alan has a plan," Delaine announces. The others stop talking and look at us."This witch is powerful, so we have to tread carefully. I believe the best way to reach her realm is to trick her. I will use my power to bre
Lindy's P.O.V.What the hell happened? I feel like I've been hit by a truck. I open my eyes and don't see anything other than a dirt floor and bars all around me. Am I in a cage? How did I get here? I sit up on the cot and rub my head."Val, do you know what's going on?" I mindlink my bunny."I believe we were taken by a witch. We saw her grab Sydney, and you tried to stop her. The next thing I remember was waking up here a few minutes ago," she replies groggily. Why would a witch want us? I stand up and walk to the bars to look out. There are cages everywhere with people in them. I don't recognize anyone. If the witch took Sydney, where is she?"Hello?" I say softly to see if anyone can hear me."I wouldn't speak too loudly. The witch doesn't like it when we talk. I don't think she's here right now, though." A man stands up across from me."Where are we?" I ask him while noticing a few others looking through the bars of their cages."We're in the house of the witch Norea. She calls
