Chapter 1 - New Place, Job, And Life

*Mia Taylen Gideon's POV*

---

"Hey, girl! The reinforcement that you have called is here! Which boxes need lifting? It is time to use my super strength, again!" The voices of my dearest best friends boomed as they stepped inside my newly rented apartment, and I went to them from my room.

"Hi, Tesla! Hey, Valerie! Thank you so much for coming here. You're heroes!" I greeted them as I hug them both, and they laughed. Damn, I missed these morons.

"Yeah, of course! Anything for you, Mia. As long as the snacks, lunch, and dinner are free, we are here to help you at any time of the day. Right, Val?" Tesla replied cheerfully while roaming her eyes around the room, and I just inhaled deeply since my wallet will be drained again. Well, always, whenever we hang out. But, that's okay because I finally have a job and the wage is pretty high.

"Yep, then the drinks and the chips. We gotta celebrate your new job, of course, Mia! My gosh! Won't you make a party for it? We should be rejoicing because no one easily gets hired for a job as the Personal Assistant of the most handsome, hot as hell, and sexy Craig Einar. Damn, you are so damn lucky, bitch!" Val let out in a joyous frustration, and I just laughed at their reactions.

Well, if it is not because of my Aunt Josie recommending me to replace her, I can't have this position at one of the largest real estate companies in the country that happens to be that the man that my pals are blabbering about is the CEO. What I know is he is young and the heir of the E&K Industries.

"Shit, yeah! Can we switch consciousness, Mia? Damn it! Why are all the hot men in this city are into you? Why can't one of them---" Tesla ranted and I cut her off as I threw her the couch pillow in my hold.

"Silly, why would you say that? I haven't even met him, and I'm sure as heck that he is not single. I'm not even single myself." I uttered as I opened the box that contains my kitchenwares, and they both jumped on the couch to just settle their butts on there and chat. Are they here to help me? I think not.

"Why? If you are single right now, would you be into him? Like, you haven't met Lucas. And, Craig comes to you like he has met his mate when he looked right into your eyes. Love at first sight. Or even if you already have Lucas, but then, you find yourself being torn between two lovers, who would you choose?" Valerie asked dreamily and curiously, while the girl beside her just looked at her weirdly, but then, turned to look for an answer from me.

And, I just took a deep breath to keep my cool. If I just don't see these girls as my sisters, I might have thrown them out my window already. They are not even helping me with my boxes and arranging shits in here, and they will demand lots of food! Well, I guess morons will always be one even after a decade of being together.

"I will choose nothing. But, I will rather choose to continue with my work here than answering your absurd questions about my new job and my new boss. Because... If we will finish early, we could go eat and hang out early. What about we'll watch a movie or clubbing? For celebration!" I told them as I point the chopping knife in my right hand at them, and their ears perked up when I mentioned the options they can choose from for the celebration that they wanted.

"Movie! Clubbing!" They both let out in unison, and I crossed my arms on my chest as they began to argue. Hmmm, should I hand each of them some knives?

"What about we go watch a movie first, then, we go clubbing afterward?" Tesla suggested merrily, and they will really leave me no money.

"What about Moving? Hmm, moving things in here? Like these cushions, then, these potted plants, this microwave oven, that aquarium, and everything that is inside these boxes? Huh? What about that? Then, we will decide if where we should go first after everything is finished here. How about that?" I suggested with my sarcasm is overloading, and they just laughed their asses out.

"What about a pistachio ice cream for a headstart? Inside that steel box." I added, and that made them quickly stood up from the couch to race to the fridge for the food. They extensively need food for fuel.

Well, I met these girls way back in junior high school, and we are all part of the cheerleading squad. Then, they didn't get the chance to go to college, while I just graduated three months ago with my business administration course with a high honor even if I got to work part-time and study at the same time.

Finally, the girls helped me in arranging my stuff while we chat about a lot of things, particularly, silly things about our jobs and our love lives.

---

While we are waiting for our food to be delivered to our table, I flinched as I felt a hand tapped my right shoulder real hard, and Tesla made my head turned in the direction of two people that are four tables from our left. Then, I looked at my friends curiously as I don't get it.

"Girl, that's your boss," Valerie whispered, and I looked back to the table that they pointed me. And, I saw the man with an elegant-looking blonde-haired woman who has her back on us.

"Damn, is that his girlfriend? Wife? Mother? Sister? No, he has no sister because he is an only son. Who could that bitch be?" Tesla whispered curiously, and no one knows the answer. And, I couldn't care less. I would eventually know more about him, tomorrow.

"Let me find answers for your knickknacks," Val uttered and stood up, and I held her hand to stop her.

"Don't even dare to ask them, girl. Stay here." I told her in a warning, and she chuckled, then, winked at me.

"I'm not gonna ask them. Don't worry. It will be fine." She assured me, and I just shook my head in frustration. I hope the girl won't point me out because I will really get rid of that redheaded bitch.

And, Valerie really did go near their table, and I am crossing my fingers with Tesla at our table. Damn that woman!

When Val went to her mission, I didn't dare to turn my head to them because I can't watch whatever silliness will she execute with the people that are responsible for my employment. I'm not part of their inquisitiveness, alright?

"How was it? Who the heck is that, Val?" Tes asked the girl, and she took a deep breath as she sits down on her chair again.

And, our food finally arrived and the waiter left after pouring us some wines.

"Come on, who is it, Val? Mother?" Tes asked impatiently, and Val reached for my right hand on the table while looking sorrowful.

"Fiancee. I'm so sorry, Mia." She uttered sadly, and I scoffed. What the heck? Why would she be sorry?

"Why? How did you know? Did you ask them? I saw you, and you didn't." Tes asked, and I just went to start eating my food.

"The woman has a ring, the man doesn't. Yeah, but, hey... They are just engaged. Even a married person can be divorced, why not them? Right? You still have a chance, girl. Go for it. Use your lucky charm. Good luck." Val answered, and I just inhaled deeply to repress my irritation.

"Why the hell are you both shipping me with that happily engaged man when I have a loving boyfriend, and I love him, too? Just knock it off. It's becoming so annoying now. Just eat, so that we could proceed to where we would go after here." I told them sternly, and they shrugged their shoulder. And the two turned their attention on their plates as they might have sensed that I'm starting to lose my cool.

Well, they just never liked Lucas for me when we got together since last year. I don't know what they see in him that I don't. He seems nice, and he is sweet, loving, caring, and a lot more. I love him, and I couldn't ask for more. We just don't have much time together because he is working at a car lending company, while I am studying. And, I just got here from my summer vacation with my parents who live in Yorkshire, England. Yeah, they reside so far, because I live and grew up with my real father here in Los Angeles since I was twelve.

Then, after we went club hopping which I didn't drink too much because I still have a job tomorrow, we go on our separate ways, and I went to my new apartment that is just half a kilometer away from my workplace.

"Let's call it a day, Andrew. Good night!" I whispered to my Doberman Pinscher on my bed, and he just whined as I kiss his head. Then, I dozed off to sleep.

---

"Hi, good day, Ma'am! What can I help you with? Do you have an appointment with whom? Name?" The lady here in the lobby of the E&K Industries headquarters greeted me with her bright smile as I went to her to ask for the thing that I need to do first or where should I go.

"Uh, hi, umm... I am Mia Taylen Gideon. And... I---" I answered, and she cut me off.

"Oh, you are the new Personal Assistant of Mr. Einar. Hi, Mia! Well, he's been looking for you here just about thirty minutes ago, and now, he is waiting for you in his office. Good luck! You need it. Fifty-ninth floor. You can find his secretary's table before his door." She said with her worried face, and I nodded my head in response, then, I thanked her before I headed to the elevator.

Why do I feel like I messed up on my first day of reporting for my job? Am I that late?
