[ Colton ]
"Mr. Black, here is the file of all the possible information that I found about Miss Parker and her life in the last five years including her son." My personal assistant, Harry placed a folder on my desk.
"Thanks, Harry, you may take your leave now and ensure that Mrs. Black won't find out about it, do you get it?" I warn him through my cold eyes though I know, he wouldn't dare to defy me.
"Don't worry, Sir. It will remain between you and I." He nodded his head positively before taking his exit from my office.
I stared at the closed folder which may change everything for good or for worse.
After meeting the little boy, Chase and his striking resemblance with me, I couldn't stay quite nor my heart found any peace.Something had been triggering me to dig deeper in the excellently clean life of Evangeline and here's my answer waiting for me to find out whether she lied to me about the baby or I was never the father of him.
The latter sounded disturbing to me as I felt immediate connection with Chase and his last name, it wasn't a mere coincidence.
With crazily beating heart, I open the file and begin to read it. The initial pages contained Evangeline's early years when she persuaded her Master's degree through online courses and her part time job at a restaurant.
I balled my fist as guilt overpowered my senses. I made her struggle to earn bread and butter by working tirelessly and serving the rich customers. She used to be treated royally by waiters.
I reversed everything for her who also belonged to a rich family but not as wealthy as mine.
After post graduating, she started working for a small firm for almost an year before joining Dominic's company. The name soured my mood. Why did he always there for her instead of me?
It also has her current address in the suburbs of the city. I feel relived, at least she is earning a better living now which provides her enough to maintain a decent life.
I flipped the page and automatically a smile curved on my lips as it had the picture of Chase. Damm! He's Evangeline's son and she bluntly lied about him and even went to the extent of giving excuse of a miscarriage.
How could she?
I took a deep breath and cast my eyes on the information about Chase.
Name: Chase Alexander Parker.
She gave him my grandfather's name as his middle name.
Birth: 27/08/2018 at St. Maria's Hospital.
She gave birth in a missionary hospital which provides free medical aid for poors and homeless. It stung my heart. Mia was born in the best hospital of the country under the best medical staff. Evanca had a private ward where no one other than assigned nurses and doctors could go.
Parents: Evangeline Freya Parker (single mother)
DNA report: both samples matched 99.9%
I balled my fists as anger surged through my veins. She had my child hidden from me all these years. She could had claimed her rights, asked for dna results but she decided to grow him up on her own.
Chase is my son!
He is my heir!
A warm feeling filled my heart. I had another child far from me who doesn't even know about me but whom should I blame? I refused to accept him when Evangeline told me about her being pregnant, in fact, I used to believe that it was Dominic's since Evanca and my Dad showed me pictures of them in a very intimate position and three weeks later, she came to me with her pregnancy news.
How could I believe her.
"Fuck!" I cursed under my breath and rubbed my forehead to ease the pain.
I felt confused and conflicted. There's a continuous clash between my logical mind and emotional heart. A part of me wanted to believe that Evangeline was innocent but a large part reassessed the past events which led to her being the snake who ruined my life, trapped her parents to marry her to me in Evanca's place despite knowing the fact that I loved Evanca. Her innocence was a facade mask to hide her malicious intentions.
The report had her personal phone number.
She had played this game for years, now it's my term. I will play it on my own rules and terms and she must oblige to me because I won't give up until I win my son, my heir.
I grabbed my phone to confront her but I stopped thinking of a brilliant idea. I need to put my plan into action step by step and it begins from tomorrow.
"No, she needs to feel the fear, Colton. She hid your son from you. Give her the taste of her own medicine." My brain yelled.
"She had her valid reasons, Colton. Don't do this stupidity and talk to her calmly." My heart said in a whisper.
I was again torn apart.
After contemplating for some time, I finally decided to warn her. If she's really upto something, then she'd make hasty decisions which eventually bring out her true colors.
I opened my text and typed my message.
"I know your secret now, Evangeline."
I pressed the sent button and leaned back on my chair. She must have received my warning.
I couldn't wait for the next day because I was going to meet my son as his father. Another smile broke on my lips as I recalled our moments. He already crept his way to my heart. His smartness reflects his genes that he inherited from me.
Luckily, Evanca is out of the town for a new photoshoot for 'Dior' and it will give me time to figure out something permanent and safe for Chase.
I can't let anyone harm my son even if it's my wife, Evanca.
Next day.
I ordered Harry to reschedule my meetings after the lunch time so I could leave early at the time of recess so I might see Chase. It would be a child's play for me to ask the Principal to let me meet my son but I don't want any scandal which involves my little boy or Mia.
I stood in front of the school gate, waiting for the kids to walk out, my eyes were glued on the exit. After the wait of ages, the moment finally came when a swarm of kids bursted through the gates. I wasn't worried for Mia as my bodyguards were already inside the school to pick her through the back door exit. I felt bad for ditching my daughter for the first time since she was born but I had to do it for both my children's sake.
I didn't want my daughter to find out about her brother like this. She had been the most pampered child in the family and dropping the bomb of a sibling might sprout seeds of insecurity in innocent mind.
"Batman?"
I heard my son's excited voice and it made me turn to look at him who was standing at a distance with surprised look on his chubby face.
"Hey, buddy." I waved at him and next, he flung into my arms.
A strange emotion invaded my heart as I felt my own flesh and blood close to me. Without caring for the curious eyes, I hugged him back, relishing the warmth of my child.
"What are you doing here?" He asked me.
I broke the hug and held his tiny shoulders,"I was here to meet your Principal Sir, as he's my friend but then I thought to see you too." I partially lied and the boy seemed convinced.
"But I have to go. My bus is waiting for me."He pouted sadly, clearly he liked my company.
"Yeah, I know but we can always meet if you want." I suggested and his eyes lit up immediately.
"Really? But how?" He asked,"My Mommy doesn't let me meet strangers and you are stranger for her." He said, his smile faltered.
She taught good lessons to our son.
"You're right, Chase what if we give your Mommy a visit on Sunday? Then she'll let us spend some time together. You can come to my house anytime. You and my daughter can play together. She has a lot of toys." I didn't know how to talk with a child whom I met for the second time.
"You have a daughter?" He asked.
"Yes and she is in this school, perhaps your classmate." I told him about Mia because he's way mature than my little princess. A trait that the Black genes have. He is smarter than most of the kids of his age, specially his vocabulary. I felt proud of him.
"Really? What's her name?" He blinked his big eyes curiously.
"Her name is Mia, girl with golden hairs and blue eyes." I narrated him Mia's features.
"Ohh Mia Parker in section A. I know her. She comes for our games period." He said.
"But you have to promise me that you won't tell her that I met you. She's a little over-possessive about me." I told him because I knew that he wouldn't break his promise.
"She doesn't talk to me. I mean we are play mates but she mostly play with girls." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Okay, okay, now let's have a boy to boy talk, Chase." I cupped his cheeks,"I want to meet your Mommy and Daddy for their permission to be friends with you. I really like you, little man. We can go out to watch football match together on next Saturday." I said.
His eyes again widended on the mention of football. Well, it was a wild guess for me. Which boy or man doesn't like sports!
"I love to watch football matches but Uncle Dom doesn't have time on weekends and Mommy hates football." His face fell.
My blood boiled on how my son adores that bastard Dominic.
"What about your Daddy. He lives with you, right?" I asked him to know how he feel about having a father figure.
"I don't have a Daddy." He answered in a low voice.
"What happened to him, Chase?" I asked, my heart beating impatiently.
"He doesn't live with me and Mommy. She told me that he is a businessman who lives in a different country."
His reply surprised me even more.
Evangeline didn't lie about me but hid my identity.
Well, I could use it as my leverage.
"Don't worry, your Daddy will be back home very soon and then you can live with him happily." I kissed his forehead and stood up straight to leave.
"You're going?" He blinked his eyes at me.
"Sorry, Chase but I have to go now. We'll meet on the Sunday but it's a surprise for your Mommy, okay?" I high five with him.
"Okay." He waved his hand and ran away with the other kids while I stared at his retreating figure.
My heart yearned to stop him and never him go away.
"It's time to meet you as your baby's Daddy, Evangeline Parker." I smirked imagening my next move.
[ Evangeline ] "You don't have to go through all this, you know I am with you, Mr. Rodriguez is here with you." Kate said giving me a sympathetic look. I cried all the night after receiving the text from Colton, yes, it had to be him only as Evanca already knew about my son. How could I tell him the truth? Next morning after sending Chase to school, I called in my office and took a day off. I wasn't in a state to focus on my work. Kate phoned me to check upon when I told her the last night's incident. Her reaction was odd for my amazement. She landed at my house in no time. "What am I going to do, Kate? He knows Chase is his son and he promised that he will soon come back to take my son away with him." I sobbed on her shoulder. "Did he really say this to you?" She narrowed her eyes at me. I shook my head negatively,"I know him, Kate. I spent three years under his cold ruthlessness, he loves to keep his enemies closer." She kept rubbing my back to soothe me but how much I tried t
[ Evangeline ]"Let's pretend that he isn't here, Eve." Dominic whispered in my ear as we walked in the annual conclave of corporate world. Most of the businessmen, big or small, local or multinational company owners, from large scale to small scale, they all were going to attend the meeting where the agenda for the next five year's GDP and economic growth in the secondary sector of economy were happened to be discussed under sustainable development.Being, one of the top manufacturers of the country, Colton and Dominic were also attending this summit and it's my first time to be there as one of the team members selected by Dominic himself.I would be the happiest person on the planet if Colton wasn't in the picture because his presence around me for whole twelve hours would be challenging for me."I can't see him anywhere. I just hope that he won't show his face today or I don't know what I'm going to do with him." I heard him muttering under his breath."Just relax, Dom. We are here
[ Colton ]I walked too and fro in my living room while my lawyer Mr. Harrison was busy going through legal procedure and Brandon, my cousin being a total child was busy playing game in his phone."Are you sure you still want to do it?" Mr. Harrison gave me a questioning look.I marched towards him."What do you think Mr. Harrison?"I nodded my head curtly, the man shook his head and forwarded the papers to me.I read each provision in detail giving my solo attention on those papers which were going to decide my future."Everything looks good, Mr. Harrison still I have doubt, will it work?" I asked him for final confirmation."I am working for Blacks since your father's time, you know very well that I don't leave a loop hole, Mr.Black." He replied in his professional manner. He was right, since my father's time he had been handling all the legal matters of Black family and the company."Thank you Mr. Harrison for coming here on a very short notice. I appreciate your efforts and please
[ Evangeline ]I closed the file I was reading, I decided to come to office because it would be no help to stay at home and sulk, at least, work keeps me busy for the most of the day. I glanced at the digital clock placed on my desk."Two more hours. What should I do?"I murmured to myself. There was not much work for me as I had already prepared my monthly report and other marketing survey. I just have to show them to Dominic who was busy lately in a meeting with someone. I leaned on my chair and closed my eyes to give a relax to my brain and eyes.My mind drifted back to Chase. The boy is everything for me, my only family. It pained me I can't give him what he needs the most, a father.I can definitely raise my son alone but at the same time I can't play the role of both parents sooner or later he will demand to know about his father and that moment I have to reveal him the whole truth. He will question me more than I hate to admit, perhaps, he will leave me and choose Colton for hid
[ Evangeline ]I felt light hearted when I walked out of the Church after two hours sermon. It gave me solace, ignited a ray of hope to fight upcoming battle against the past demons, I tried to figure out the solution of my problems when I saw all door closed leaving me in a labyrinth of confusion and conflicting dilemma. It was 10:45 AM which meant I still had time to reach on my next destination so I waited for a bus rather than hiring a cab. I earned enough for both of us or buy a car but I do believe in saving single pennies. There was a time when I used to sleep without food for days and proper clothes in winter.Throughout the journey to the restaurant my mind debated with my actions. Whatever I was doing or going to do would leave me either to the end of my miseries or push me into another swamp of misfortune.I stepped down from the bus as I reached at the nearby bus stop. I wore a simple lime green midi dress which ended just below my knees. I like my black pumps usually I pr
[ Evangeline ]The meeting with Colton went the way I wanted it to be except when he told me about my grieving parents. I felt guilty of not contacting them in years and it had been weighing over my chest like a million ton rock.I need to see them sooner and seek their forgiveness, if they'll gather themselves to pardon me for neglecting them.A part of me wanted to pretend that the last few days never happened and I can live a peaceful life with my son. I wish like my death, the past when I decided to marry Colton would also change but the marriage also gave me the only but the most beautiful blessing, my Chase. My phone suddenly ran which made me jump in surprise as I was deeply lost in the momery lane. It showed Dominic's number on the screen.I swiped it quickly and put it near my ear,"Hello, Dom." I greeted him."Thank God! You're alive, Eve. I was about to break into your house if you didn't answer my call." I heard Dom sighing on the other side.Wait a minute! He's outside my
[ Colton ]"Sir, Mrs. Black is on her way to your office. Should I send her in or..." Hendrick paused and gauged my reaction. He couldn't risk his job by disrespecting the Boss's wife but currently I wasn't in a mood to see or talk to anyone. My meeting with Evangeline went off the track. That wily woman crushed all my positive hopes to be with my son without any tricks and hostility."Sir?" Hendrick called out my name again to grab my attention."Send her in." I sighed pinching the bridge of my nose.He nodded his head and left.Evanca returned from her trip late night. I spent the whole night in my home office and she must be probably exhausted from the journey that we didn't see each other even at the breakfast table. After dropping Mia at school, I directly drove to my office to divert my mind from my personal life temporarily but it didn't work.My mind kept going back on Chase. My desire to be with my son had been increasing and deepening with each passing day. I wanted to be wi
[ Colton ]"This..this..can't be serious. She can't do this to me." I threw a paperweight on the screen which made Evanca jump in fear but my anger had no bounds, I felt betrayed and fooled by her."Col baby, what are you doing?" Evanca tried to grab hold of my hand but I shoved her away."Just..just leave me alone, Evanca." I closed my eyes to refrain myself from hurting her and right then, I wasn't myself."No, I am not going anywhere unless you tell me why this news bothers you?" She crossed her arms."I said leave me alone, Evanca or I will do something that we both are going to regret later." I warned her again, my patience with her running thin as I had to make a few urgent calls to verify the viral news but she didn't seem to understand my mental status.I pressed the intercom, completely ignoring her. In the next one minute, Hendrick rushed into the office, his eyes widened in surprise when he saw the mess I created."Yes..yes Sir." He then diverted his attention on me."Cance
