The voice came from beyond the sealed doors.

And every person in the chamber recognized it.

Even those who had never heard it before.

Elaris.

The woman Azrael claimed Seraphine had murdered. The woman whose face haunted Kael's visions. The woman who had warned him not to trust Elara.

And now she was coming for her daughter.

Elara stood frozen beneath the ancient symbol glowing on her forehead.

Then she smiled.

It was not the frightened smile of a little girl who had just awakened from twenty years of imprisonment.

It was the smile of someone who had finally heard the words she had waited centuries to hear.

“Mother,” she whispered.

The sealed doors shuddered.

Seraphine lunged toward her.

“No! Whatever you hear, do not answer her!”

Elara's smile disappeared.

“Why?”

“Because that is not your mother!”

A deafening crash shook the fortress.

The doors split down the middle.

Silver mist poured through the opening, crawling across the floor like living water. The temperature dropped so sharply that frost formed on the walls.

Kael felt the second heartbeat stir.

Once.

A warning.

He reached for Lucien, who immediately caught his hand.

“Stay behind me,” Lucien said.

Kael gave him a disbelieving look.

“After everything that just happened, you still think you can protect me by standing in front of me?”

“No.” Lucien's thumb brushed Kael's knuckles. “I think we stand together.”

Kael wanted to reject the comfort.

He wanted to remind Lucien that trust was not something a person could demand after breaking someone's heart in front of an entire kingdom.

But the warmth of Lucien's hand was the only thing keeping the darkness inside him quiet.

So he held on.

The mist parted.

A woman stepped into the chamber.

She wore a long silver gown that appeared woven from moonlight. Her black hair fell past her waist, and a thin crown rested against her forehead. She looked neither young nor old.

She looked timeless.

Her eyes found Elara.

For a moment, all the power in the chamber seemed to disappear.

“My little moon.”

Elara ran toward her.

“Mother!”

“ELARA, NO!”

Kael reached for the girl, but he was too late.

Elara threw herself into the woman's arms.

The woman held her tightly, pressing her cheek against Elara's hair.

“My darling,” she whispered. “They kept you from me for so long.”

Elara began to cry.

“I waited for you.”

“I know.”

“I was alone.”

“I know, my love.”

“I thought you had forgotten me.”

The woman's expression broke.

“Never.”

Kael watched them, his chest aching with an emotion he could not explain.

Something about the reunion felt wrong.

Not false, exactly.

But incomplete.

He remembered the warning from his vision.

Do not trust the girl.

Then his mother's voice echoed in his memory.

Do not trust the girl.

Two warnings.

Two different moments.

And neither had explained why.

Kael stepped forward.

“Elaris.”

The woman lifted her head.

Her gaze settled on him.

The tenderness vanished from her face.

“So,” she said quietly. “The vessel survived.”

Lucien's grip tightened around Kael's hand.

Kael felt the words like a slap.

“You know who I am?”

“I know what they made you.”

“Then tell me how to stop it.”

Elaris looked at the Moon Crown hovering above his head.

“You cannot stop it.”

The chamber fell silent.

Kael's mother shook her head. “There must be another way.”

“There was,” Elaris replied. “Before your husband betrayed us.”

“My husband is dead.”

“His choices are not.”

Elaris released Elara and approached Kael.

The shadows moved away from her feet.

Even the black mark on Kael's palm seemed to recoil.

“You carry a fragment of Azrael's original life,” she said. “But that is not the true danger.”

Kael swallowed.

“Then what is?”

Her eyes shifted toward Lucien.

“The bond.”

Lucien stepped forward.

“The rejected mate bond?”

“Your bond was never supposed to be completed. It was designed to be rejected. The rejection opened a passage between the living world and the place where Azrael was imprisoned.”

Kael stared at her.

“So my entire life—”

“Was shaped by a pact made before you were born.”

“And Lucien's rejection was part of it?”

“Yes.”

Lucien's face hardened.

“Who arranged it?”

Elaris did not answer immediately.

Instead, she looked at Seraphine.

The ancient woman stood motionless, her expression unreadable.

Then Elaris said, “Ask the grandmother who erased the fourth bloodline from history.”

Seraphine's eyes flashed.

“You dare accuse me?”

“I dare speak the truth.”

“You sealed Azrael away!”

“And you helped create the vessel that would bring him back.”

Kael turned slowly toward his grandmother.

“Is it true?”

Seraphine said nothing.

His heart sank.

“Grandmother.”

“I was trying to preserve the balance.”

“You used my life to do it?”

“I believed there was no other choice.”

Kael laughed once, bitterly.

“Everyone keeps saying that.”

He looked at his mother.

“My father had no choice. Rowan had no choice. You had no choice.”

His gaze returned to Seraphine.

“Did any of you ever consider asking me?”

Before she could answer, Elara began to scream.

Elaris spun around.

The girl was clutching her head. The symbol on her forehead had turned crimson, and black tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Mother!” Elara cried. “Make it stop!”

Elaris rushed toward her.

But Elara recoiled.

“Don't touch me!”

The woman froze.

Elara stared at her with terror.

“You're not my mother.”

Elaris's face went pale.

“Darling—”

“I remember now.”

The shadows surged around Elara.

“I remember what you did to me.”

Kael moved toward his sister.

“Elara, what do you remember?”

She looked at him.

For a moment, her eyes were entirely silver.

Then she whispered five words that made Seraphine fall to her knees.

“Mother killed me before I was born.”

And behind Elaris, Azrael appeared.

Smiling.

The moment Lucien’s wolf spoke, the silver heart inside the glass chamber stopped beating.Aurelian went completely still. For the first time since Lucien had awakened in Elysium, the prince who wore his face looked genuinely afraid.“Did you hear that?” Lucien whispered.Aurelian’s jaw tightened. “You should not be able to hear him.”“Perhaps you should have thought of that before you chained me to a table.”Lucien pulled against the silver restraints. Pain tore through his wrists, and the unfamiliar symbols carved into the stone beneath him flashed white. His wolf growled somewhere deep inside his chest, but the sound was faint, as though an entire world stood between them.Brother, don't let him open the heart.Lucien stared at the floating silver heart. It was no larger than a human heart, yet the chamber surrounding it seemed to breathe with its rhythm. Five silver rings revolved around it, each marked with an unfamiliar symbol. Four were dark. The fifth glowed faintly, pulsing i

“Lucien!”Kael's scream followed the Alpha into the darkness. The black chain dragged Lucien across the broken floor, its links burning with the same five-circle symbol that had appeared on his chest. Lucien fought against it, his boots carving deep marks into the stone, but every movement only made the chain tighten.Kael refused to let go.His fingers locked around Lucien's wrist.“I'm not losing you!”Aurelian glanced over his shoulder.“You already have.”He closed his fist. The chain jerked.Lucien's hand slipped from Kael's grasp. For one terrible instant, their fingers remained connected by nothing more than their fingertips. Then they separated.Kael lunged forward, but Caelan caught him around the waist.“Let me go!”“Kael, stop!”“HE'S TAKING HIM!”“And if you follow him like this, you'll die before you reach the door!”Kael struck his brother's arm.Caelan released him immediately.Kael stumbled forward, ready to chase Aurelian, but the stranger had already reached the shat

  • The Alpha Who Rejected the Wrong Omega   Chapter 34: The Brother Who Wore Another Face

Kael could not look away from the figure beyond the mountains. It had Lucien's face. The same sharp jaw. The same dark hair. The same cruelly beautiful eyes that had once watched Kael stand alone beneath the full moon while an entire kingdom laughed at his rejection. But the figure wore no crown. It did not need one.The world itself seemed to bend around it.“That's impossible,” Lucien whispered. He had managed to stand, though his legs trembled. One hand remained pressed against his chest, where the five interlocking circles glowed beneath his skin.Kael turned toward him.“Do you know who that is?”Lucien shook his head.“No.”His answer came too quickly.Kael noticed. So did the boy standing beside him.“You're lying,” the child said.Lucien's gaze snapped toward him.“Be careful what you accuse me of.”The boy laughed bitterly.“You always say that when you remember something you don't want anyone else to know.”Lucien went still.Kael looked between them.“What does that mean?”

“Too late.”The child's voice echoed through the fortress. It came from beneath the floor, from behind the walls, and from somewhere deep inside Kael's own chest. For one terrible moment, nobody moved. Then Lucien screamed. He fell to his knees, both hands pressed against his chest. Black veins spread from his heart toward his throat, forming the same ancient symbols that had appeared on Kael's palm.Kael dropped beside him.“Lucien! Look at me!”The Alpha's body convulsed. His wolf roared, but the sound was wrong. It was not the furious cry of a creature fighting for control. It was the desperate howl of something being dragged away from its owner.Kael gripped Lucien's shoulders.“Fight it!”Lucien lifted his head. His eyes were black, but a thin silver ring remained around each pupil.“I am trying.”His voice sounded strained, almost distant.“Kael, listen to me. If I lose control again, you have to—”“No.”“Let me finish.”“No!” Kael shouted. “I have spent my entire life being tol

Azrael was smiling. Not the cruel smile of a conqueror who had finally defeated his enemies. Not the satisfied smile of a prisoner who had escaped centuries of confinement. It was the smile of a father who had just heard his daughter remember him.And somehow, that made it more terrifying.“Say it again,” he whispered.Elara stood trembling in the middle of the chamber. Black tears ran down her cheeks, but the silver in her eyes burned brighter with every passing second.“Mother killed me before I was born.”Elaris took a step toward her.“No, my little moon. You don't understand what you remember.”Elara screamed.“Don't call me that!”The force of her voice shattered the remaining windows. Glass exploded outward, scattering across the courtyard below. The shadows rushed toward her, gathering around her body like a cloak.Kael moved instinctively.“Elara, look at me.”She turned toward him.For a brief moment, he saw the frightened child who had called him brother beneath the fortres
