The Beta's Human Mate

"Again" my father sighs. Bodie and I get back into position, and once we were good to go I instantly tackled him to the ground. I'm able to pin him pretty quick, because he's tired and weak. Well that's harsh but the truth. We're in pack training right now, and my father, the beta of the Blue Moon Pack, is in charge.

Our Alpha, Dallas, is in a meeting. And his son, my best friend Nolan, is shadowing him. Once we're about done fighting, my father clamps my shoulder. "Good, need some footwork, but you did good" his lips curl slightly, and that's how my father says he's proud.

I nod, pulling my t-shirt on my sweaty body. "I will work on it with Nol. He needs some extra practice, he said" my father nods, and he starts the walk back to the pack house. We don't live in it, but we train here. Our pack house is pretty big, but no one really leaves here but the Alpha and his family.

We usually eat most meals here though, and all of our houses are in the gated community. Most people think we're just rich assholes who live near the country, and it's easier to keep that facade up than let anyone get a whiff of what we really are.

I pass Bodie on the way to the pack house, I give him a small smile. He's one of our younger wolves, he's about 15. Definately needs some work. I jog up the back steps of the pack house, and make my way through the foyer to the dining area. Once I'm there I get my breakfast, and make my way to my friend group. Nolan is there, with his mate Samatha. Sam's best friend, Nicole, is there. I have to stop myself from rolling my eyes.

Nicole and I have a complicated relationship. We started hooking up at 15, and now we're both 18, and know we're not mates but she insists we're like a couple.

I sat down between Jackson and Nolan. "Hey man" Nolan speaks first, i nod at him and then my eyes slide over to Sam, she gives me a weak smile. Sam and I have been friends as long as Nol and I have been. Well, we were all best friends growing up. Then things shifted, and they turned out to be mates.

So I am a third wheel, a lot. Anyways, today is our first day back to school. None of us are excited, we have to hide our abilities, and pretend to be below average because humans can't stand something being more powerful than them.

We have to pretend like we're some rich assholes, and try our best to not interact with them. Which can be pretty fucking hard.

"Ready for today?" Jack asks. Jack and I have been friends for the last couple of years. He's about my height, he's got short curly brown hair. Nolan has black hair like my own, and he's slightly taller than me, Alpha genes and all. Sam has long blonde hair, she usually keeps up in a messy bun.

"As ready as I'll ever be, you?" I ask, picking at my food.

"I guess" he shrugs, and we keep casual conversation. We try to keep it light.

After eating breakfast, I take a shower and change into my spare clothes. A t-shirt and jeans, then I'm heading to my jeep to drive to that hellhole.

I follow Nolan's truck, and we're pulling into the school's parking lot in no time. I climb out after parking besides Nol. We meet at the front of our vehicles, and I glance around the school parking lot.

The student lot is packed, and there are clicks everywhere. More wolves are pulling in, and it's getting close to start time. So I trail behind Nolan and Sam.

I get an intoxicating scent of sandalwood, and a hint of vanilla.  My eyes snap up, landing on a blonde haired boy. My skin breaks out in goosebumps, and the air feels like it gets knocked out of my lungs.

'Mate'

My wolf howls, and I freeze in my step for a moment. My brows instantly crease, and I glance around, but my eyes keep finding this blonde boy.

We've had a couple wolves have the same sexed mate, and that's fine and all. But I never expected my mate to be a boy.

"You good man?" Nolan asks, snapping me out of my trance of staring at this boy. I clear my throat, giving one last glance at him, before turning to Nolan and continue my steps.

"Yeah, sorry" i mumble. What the fuck?ch
