NATE’S POV

“I know this all happened fast, but you can’t go after them,” Angelo said, his voice calm but firm. “At least not right now. We need to think first.”

“I have their plate number. I can find them, I just need to get to my car and—”

“Do you even hear yourself, Nate?” he snapped.

“This is serious. We need to be smart about this. We need a full proof plan before we start chasing shadows. We don’t know who they really are yet. All we have is a bunch of inconsistent leads. And if we don’t play this right, it could be the final blow.”

“No, Angelo,” I said, yanking my arm away. “I won’t sit here and make strategies while every second I waste, they’re getting further away with Elara. I’m not risking her for some plan. I have their plate I can track them I need to get her back do you even understand anything I’m saying?”

“I get it. I do,” he growled. “You’ve got the plate. That’s great. But they’re long gone by now. And let’s say … miraculously you catch up and get her back toni

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    226: A FAILURE LIKE YOU

NATE’S POV The rain had finally stopped, but the aftermath clung to me like a second skin.Elliot stood a feet away, eyes blazing into mine. He was seconds away from reaping my head off. But with the cold seeping into my bones my fingers clenched so tight around Elara’s purse that my knuckles had gone pale. “Where is my sister?” Elliot snapped, his voice sharp and full of venom. “She’s resting,” Angelo jumped in, too fast, too rehearsed. Elliot’s eyes darted to him then back to me. His gaze narrowed, scanning me from head to toe, and I knew instantly he saw right through us. Through me. “Why is her purse with you?” Even before I could open my mouth, I knew he already had his answer. Something was wrong. Very wrong. “Where the fuck is my sister?” he barked, stepping closer. “She’s—” Angelo started again, but I cut in. “She’s gone,” I said quietly. The words felt like gravel in my throat. And only add more realism to it. She isn’t here. “Nate” Angelo whispers. “There’s n

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    224: YOU NEED TO BREATHE

NATE’S POV The rain was a roar now. It pounded against the pavement, drowning out the thunder in my chest. All I could think about were her eyes wide, terrified, and full of tears as they dragged her away from me. I should’ve fought harder. My fists were already bruised. Blood poured from my lip. I didn’t care. I’d landed a jab square to one guy’s jaw, but another slammed into my side. A punch cracked against my temple, and I staggered. But I didn’t stop. I fought until they shoved me to the ground and a boot pressed to my back. Then I heard it… a gun cocking. I rolled. Snatched the weapon from the man nearest to me and fired a shot into the air. “DON’T TAKE ANOTHER FUCKING STEP!” I roared. They froze for a second. Then a shot cracked through the storm, grazing my shoulder. Pain tore through me like fire. “Shit!” I fired back instantly, letting the bullets fly, unfocused, frantic. That was my mistake. Another guy tackled me from behind, slamming me into the ground. I fell

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    223: I CAN EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.

ELARA’S POV Another thunderclap tore through the sky as the wind howled and whipped around us. “Let’s go inside,” Nate said quickly. “We can talk there. It’s about to rain any second from now.” “Answer the fucking question, Nate!” I yelled, voice shaking. “Did you submit those divorce papers you made me sign two years ago or not?” He didn’t say a word. Just stood there, staring at me, his expression unreadable. His silence only made my rage boil hotter. “Answer me, Nate!” My voice cracked. “Tell me I’m just being paranoid. Tell me I misunderstood. That someone else is lying to me. That this is all just a messed up mix up.” He hesitated… then said it. “It’s not.” And everything around me stopped. “It’s not a mix-up. I didn’t submit the papers like I was supposed to.” Then the sky cracked open, and the rain poured down in heavy sheets. It felt as if the skies were mocking me so hard right now they were crying. He immediately pulled off his suit jacket and trie

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    222: CONFIRMATIONS

ELARA’S POV My stomach dropped and my chest tightened. Jenna was crazy. That had to be the only explanation for the garbage she was spewing. My hand instinctively went to my neck, clutching the cold pendant that rested there. The same pendant Nate gave me just a me last night, his way of apologizing for what he thought was a misunderstanding. Even after I told him I was fine, he still kept checking in, trying to cheer me up. He never stopped asking how I was feeling. But still… that one thing Jenna said stuck out. she said Nate was the reason had told her all about his enemies and when she said. And Someone was coming to find me. Someone who’d make me wish I were dead? I don’t want to believe it. I don’t want any part of what she said to be true, she probably made up a story that just rhymed with my current situation. but the way she looked when she said those last words? It rattled something inside me. No. Stop it, Elara. She’s lying. Just like always. I

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    221: ANOTHER SIDE OF HER

ELARA’S POV I raised a brow. “He told you? Your Mr. Perfect, Nathaniel?” “He did,” she said. “He did?” I echoed, trying my best not to burst out laughing. I know she’s lying… she just gave herself away. Nate had no idea where I was going. He doesn’t even know I’m out here. And I definitely didn’t tell the house staff anything about heading to the courthouse. So she found out some other way. Maybe by stalking me? She’s probably been following me for a while. If she knew I was in New York and exactly where to find me… Something’s not right. It could be dangerous. Something is wrong with her. If she’s going to this much length just to ruin my relationship with Nate— Wait. How did she even find out about us? I haven’t told anyone. And even though we never talked about keeping things quiet, I don’t think Nate would’ve told anyone either. “He tells me everything,” she went on. “He said once he’s done with you and that little company of yours, we’ll be together again
