(Meghan’s POV)

The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was that I wasn’t in my apartment.

For a second, I stared at the unfamiliar ceiling before yesterday came back all at once. The gala, Adrian’s surprise wedding announcement, moving into his mansion, and somehow ending up in the same bedroom.

I turned toward the other side of the bed.

It was already empty. The duvet had been neatly folded back, the bathroom door stood open, and there was no sign Adrian had ever been there.

That was…

(Meghan’s POV)I was fastening my watch when someone knocked on the bedroom door.“Come in,” I called as I slipped my phone into my handbag and reached for my blazer.Margaret stepped inside with an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry to interrupt while you’re getting ready, Miss Meghan, but Mr. Vaughn asked if you’d come downstairs before you leave.” She clasped her hands together, looking as though she wished she had a better explanation.I frowned. “Did he say why?”“He didn’t.” Her gaze drifted toward the window before returning to me. “But… I think you’ll understand once you see outside.”Curiosity got the better of me, and I followed her downstairs.Adrian was standing near the front entrance with a cup of coffee resting untouched on the console table. He looked up as I approached, then tilted his head toward the glass doors.“Morning.” His greeting was calm, but there was something in his expression that made me suspicious.“I’ve got a feeling that’s about to change.” I walked to the

(Meghan’s POV)The alarm barely had a chance to ring before Adrian reached across the nightstand and switched it off.I opened my eyes just as he straightened, already dressed in a navy suit with his tie hanging loosely around his neck. The pillow wall I’d built before going to sleep had collapsed sometime during the night, leaving two pillows on the floor and the other two pushed against the headboard.“You’ve got fifteen minutes,” Adrian said as he adjusted his cufflinks. “Julian moved the Harbor Point meeting forward.”I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. “You couldn’t have started with that?”“I just did.” The corner of his mouth lifted. “You’re welcome.”I picked up one of the fallen pillows and tossed it onto the bed before getting to my feet. “Turn around.”He looked at me, amused. “Seriously?”“Unless you want me changing in front of you.”He raised both hands in surrender and turned toward the window. “Happy?”“For now.”By the time I finished getting ready, Adrian had a

(Meghan’s POV)By six-thirty, Adrian was already waiting in the foyer with his car keys in one hand. He looked up as I came downstairs, his gaze lingering for a second before he nodded. “Ready?”“I am.” I stopped beside him and adjusted the strap of my handbag. “Hope you don’t mind changing your plans.”His brow lifted. “That depends. Where are we going?”“Luigi’s.”He stared at me for a beat, then gave a small laugh. “You’re serious?”“I said I wanted something simple.” I walked past him toward the front door. “Unless you’ve suddenly developed a problem with pasta.”“I don’t,” he replied, falling into step beside me. “I’ve just never had anyone choose a neighborhood restaurant over somewhere with a waiting list.”I glanced at him as we reached the driveway. “Then congratulations. Today’s full of firsts.”A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, but he didn’t argue again.Twenty minutes later, Adrian pulled into a quiet street lined with small cafés and family-owned shops. Luigi’s s

The duvet had been neatly folded back, the bathroom door stood open, and there was no sign Adrian had ever been there. That was… convenient. At least I didn’t have to figure out what two people were supposed to say after sharing a room for the first time.I grabbed a change of clothes from my suitcase, got ready, and headed downstairs. The mansion was already awake, voices drifted from somewhere beyond the kitchen, and the smell of fresh coffee reached me before I found the dining room.A middle-aged woman carrying a silver tray looked up and smiled. “Good morning, Miss Vaughn.” She stepped aside to let me pass, and it to

(Meghan’s POV)“I’m saying you’re moving in with me.” Adrian met my eyes as though he’d simply suggested changing meeting rooms instead of turning my life upside down.I stared at him. “No.” The answer came so quickly I didn’t even have to think about it. “That isn’t happening.”“It is.” He closed the folder and leaned back in his chair. “After last night, reporters are going to start watching both of us. The first thing they’ll notice is that my fiancée goes home to a different address.”“They’re not going to camp outside my apartment.”“They will if the engagement keeps making headlines.” His voice stayed calm. “And after what happened at the gala, it will.”I folded my arms. “Then we’ll deal with it when it happens.”“I am.” He held my gaze without blinking. “This is me dealing with it before it becomes a problem.”I let out a quiet laugh and shook my head. “You really enjoy making decisions for other people, don’t you?”“No.” His expression didn’t change. “I enjoy preventing avoid

(Meghan’s POV)A knock on my door made me look up. I frowned, wondering who would show up that early on a Sunday, and Sofia looked just as confused when she stepped out of her room.“Are you expecting someone?” she asked, glancing from me to the door.I shook my head. “No. If I was, I’d have told you.” Before either of us could say anything else, another knock followed, making Sofia laugh.“Well, whoever it is isn’t very patient.” She walked over and pulled the door open, and both of us froze when we saw Adrian standing there. For a second, I could only stare at him. The office was one thing. Charity events were another. My apartment was the last place I expected to see him.“Well?” Adrian asked, a hint of amusement in his voice. “Are you going to let me in, or are we doing this from the hallway?”I folded my arms. “You know, most people call before showing up at someone’s door.”“I know,” he said with an easy shrug. “I just thought this would be quicker.”“For you, maybe.”A small sm
