ADRIANA~~~"I was posted to LA too." The smile on Ryan's face fades off when he hears me. I can tell he's not happy about it, which makes me wonder what he plans to do with the blonde girl. "That's... that's cool." He says. "But I thought you wanted New York.""I did. But I wanted LA too. What? You don't want me close to you? Didn't you just say you wished it was you and I in LA?""Of course I want you with me." Ryan says quickly, forcing a smile. "I was just a little surprised. I'm glad we'll be together.""Right. I have to go now. See you around."He leans close to kiss me, but I turn my face away. He frowns. "What's wrong?"I shake my head with a smile. There's no way in hell I'm telling him I no longer want him to touch me. "I don't just feel good. I'll call you later."I turn towards my car, but his arm tightens around my waist. "Wait. My mom told me you came by the house yesterday. Why didn't you wait for me? We planned to study."It's obvious Melissa didn't tell him abou
ADRIANA~~~A soft sound from the corner of the room rouses me up from sleep. I open my groggy eyes and peer into the darkness. I can hardly see a thing, and not just because it's night. I'm drunk. My eyes feel extremely heavy. After I returned from Ryan's apartment, I had secretly sneaked in a bottle of vodka from my dad's private bar. I'd been so sad, so angry. I wanted to get wasted. So I did. And I passed out hours ago. Now I'm trying to figure out if the shadow standing in the corner of my room is real, or if it's a figment of my drunken imagination. The shadow moves suddenly and I finally make out the silhouette of a man. He comes closer to me and I feel the left side of my bed dip as he sits. I glance at him, noticing the hoodie and the black face mask. It's my stalker. For a minute, we both stare at each other. I shouldn't be so relaxed. I should be terrified, waking up to see a total stranger in my room. But my drunken haze dulls out everything else. I get this sudd
THE STALKER~~~My heart pounds heavily as I drive back to base. I can't stop thinking about Don Caesar's words. He has his eyes set on the Marino family, and that puts my Adriana in danger. My grip on the steering wheel tightens until my knuckles bleach white. Maybe I'm just overreacting. Maybe Caesar just wants information on them. I speed down the highway until I leave the bustling city behind, then I turn into a dusty path and continue down the road for about an hour. The base is hidden perfectly, behind a pile of mountains which gives it the perfect protection. As I approach, several armed guards step out from the shadows, moving towards my car. But when they realize it's me, they step aside and grant me entrance. I turn another corner and finally drive through the large steel gates protecting the base. It's a fortress, made with pure steel and granite, and shaped like a dome. The base, or headquarters as some call it, is a home to carefully selected individuals, who ar
NICK~~~My mansion is a large square-cut majestic building, with pristine floor-to-ceiling windows which glitters in the afternoon sunlight. There are several other cars parked around the villa, most of them I've never used. The interior of the mansion is pure luxury. The living room houses a 100-inch smart TV, two couches and a dining area. There are five bedrooms, a private movie theater, a fully equipped gym where I work out, a golf course, an indoor pool and a Red Room. This is my home. Well, one of my homes. This is where I come to when I'm not traveling around the world, hunting down drug lords or putting a bullet into the men on my hit list. I've learned how to disguise myself perfectly, keeping the kind of life I live a secret. Through the years, I've learned how to lie low, how to blend in, how to do my job meticulously. I belong to a secret organization meant to eliminate criminals who have been singled out by the big boss. They can be prominent figures in the gove
NICK~~~I watch Adriana drive away, unable to stop her. My cheek still stings from her slap, and I can't help but wonder what set her off that way. But as I turn to go inside, I see my mother standing by the window, staring at me. Realization dawns on me suddenly, and my mood drops. I storm into the house, slamming the door behind me."What did you say to Adriana?" I demand. My voice is low, really low, and she looks away from me uneasily."What are you talking about?" She asks, feigning ignorance and trying to look innocent. But I see through her pretense. "Don't play dumb, mom!" I snap. "You know what you did. What did you tell her?"The look disappears from her face and she frowns. "I told her the truth." She says. My stomach drops. "What fucking truth?""Watch your language, Nick. I won't tolerate it.""What truth did you tell Adriana?" I yell angrily. I'm so close to losing my temper, something I have never done. "What is wrong with you, Nick?" She yells back. "This ha
ADRIANA~~~I don't concentrate through out the rest of the day because my mind is filled with the bet I foolishly agreed to. As I step outside the lecture hall, the Professor, a middle-aged man with grey hair, calls out to us. "Check with the IT department to know where you've been posted for your internship. I wish you all a successful examination.""I hope my submission for Florida got accepted." Abby says as we make our way towards the parking lot. "Why Florida?" Rissa asks."Because my aunt lives there. She's fucking rich, and I'll get to stay in a mansion.""That's so nice." Rissa sighs. "I wanna go to Dubai. But Professor Caulkin said we shouldn't get our hopes up. There's a chance we won't be sent to the places we chose.""That's bullshit." Abby scoffs, then turns to me. "What about you, Adri? Where do you wanna go for internship?""New York, or Los Angeles." I answer uninterestingly. Rissa notices my gloomy look and wraps her arm around my shoulder. "Are you okay? You lo
