Anabel

It was four hours to the mating ceremony…I couldn't wrap my head around why my brother would bring in such a filthy girl as Luna.

“Pour me another; I want to be tipsy,” I said to Mina, raising my glass while I lay flat on the bed.

“Shouldn't you be getting ready for the ceremony?” Mina asks, even as she pours me a glass of cider.

I sat up from the bed, peering at her face, which was hard to do since I had the drapes closed on the window, plunging the room into darkness.

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 37: The Truth in the Blood

Aviana's POVThe room fell completely silent after Damian demanded proof.I stood just behind him, still trying to process everything that had happened. A few minutes ago, I had been trapped in this room with Mina, and now several people were gathered around us, staring at me as though I were the one who had done something wrong. I had expected Damian to question me first or ask what happened before deciding whom to believe, but he hadn't done either. The moment he entered the room, he stepped between Mina and me, making it clear that he wasn't going to let anyone accuse me without hearing my side first.Mina's crying broke the silence as she held her injured arm against herself and looked directly at Damian.“I have no reason to lie,” she insisted through her tears, clearly trying to make everyone see her as the victim. “She attacked me when we were alone, and now everyone is questioning me when I'm the one who got hurt. Why would I do this to myself just to frame her?”The eldest

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 36: A Queen's Accusation

Damian's POVThe sound of breaking glass echoed through the east wing just as I reached the corridor. My head snapped toward the noise, and I immediately broke into a run. Guards rushed after me while Lucas barked orders behind us, his voice carrying through the hallway as servants quickly moved aside to clear the path.“Clear the corridor,” Lucas ordered as he motioned the guards forward, his eyes already searching every doorway we passed. “Move everyone back. Nobody comes through until we know what's happened.”I reached the last door in the hallway and grabbed the handle, but it refused to move. The door had been locked from the outside. My jaw tightened as the truth settled in. Whoever had brought Aviana here had deliberately made sure she couldn't leave without help.“The key,” I ordered as I stepped back from the door, forcing myself to stay calm even though every second made my wolf more restless. “Bring me the key.”One of the guards hurried forward, looking pale.“We don't ha

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 35: Trapped

Aviana's POVThe voice sent a chill straight down my spine.I slowly turned away from the locked door, and my heart sank the moment I saw Mina step out of the shadows with a small smile on her face. The warm, polite expression she'd worn all evening was gone. In its place was something much colder. She looked completely at ease as she walked toward me, her heels clicking softly against the stone floor while her eyes never left my face.“Well,” Mina said as she stopped a few feet away and looked me over from head to toe, the mocking smile on her lips growing a little wider with every passing second. “Congratulations on becoming the Lycan King's Luna. I have to admit, I never expected Damian to choose someone like you. Out of every woman in the kingdom... he chose a servant from Moonstone.”I ignored the insult.“Why did you bring me here?” I asked as I kept one hand on the door behind me, quietly trying the handle again without taking my eyes off her. “You used Annabel's name to get me

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 34: Search Every Room

Damian's POVThe moment Harper told me that a maid sent by Annabel had taken Aviana away from the ballroom and that she still hadn't returned, every trace of calm I had left disappeared.“Aviana followed one of Annabel's maids,” Harper explained as she clasped her trembling hands together, her worry obvious on her face. “She told me she would only be gone for a few minutes, and I warned her to come straight back if anything felt strange. I thought she was going to meet Annabel, but they've been gone far too long now.”I turned to the nearest guard immediately.“Seal every palace gate,” I ordered as I held the guard's gaze, making sure he understood the seriousness of the command. “No one leaves this palace, and no one enters until I say otherwise. Keep it quiet. I don't want panic spreading through the banquet.”The guard bowed and hurried away while Lucas stepped beside me, already preparing to help.“I'll take the main corridors and servant passages,” Lucas said as he signaled sev

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 33: Gone Without a Trace

Aviana's POVThe moment Damian left the ballroom to meet with the Council, I stayed close to Harper just like he'd asked me to.We stood near one of the tall windows, watching the guests mingle while the musicians continued playing. Harper glanced at me with a small smile, her expression softening as she looked me over.“You're doing well, Luna,” she said warmly, her voice carrying the fondness of someone who had been quietly watching me adjust to everything around me. “With everything you've been through today, you're still smiling at everyone and trying your best not to let the pressure show. I honestly don't know how you manage it.”I laughed softly, shaking my head at her praise. “It's natural,” I replied with a small shrug, trying to brush off what she clearly considered an achievement. “I'm not doing anything special.”“You are,” Harper insisted, giving me a look that made it clear she wasn't going to let me dismiss myself so easily. “Most people would have been overwhelmed b

  • The Lycan's Contract Luna   CHAPTER 32: A Dangerous Scheme

Damian's POVAfter the opening dance, the banquet slowly came back to life. More couples stepped onto the dance floor, the musicians began another song, and conversations filled the ballroom once again. Even so, my attention kept drifting back to Aviana. She stood near one of the tall windows with Harper. They were laughing together over something, and for a moment, Aviana looked completely at ease. They seemed surprisingly relaxed too, and the sight caught me off guard. After everything that had happened, I couldn't help checking on her.“The eastern border has seen three separate skirmishes this month,” Elder Voss said as he spread the map across the table and pointed to the marked villages. “If we don't reinforce the outposts soon, the rogues will keep pushing deeper into our territory.”I looked down at the map, forcing myself to focus. “Double the patrols along the river,” I said as I traced one of the routes with my finger before looking back at Elder Voss. “Tell Alpha Harre

Aviana's POV I had stopped counting days. What was the point? The days came and went the same way … dark, cold, the thin line of light under the door brightening and fading and brightening again.
