Skylar

I looked between my mother and the Rothems, unsure how things were going to play out. The air in the room had grown so heavy I could almost feel it pressing against my skin.

Mother stood like a shield beside me, her eyes sharp, her shoulders squared, as if she was getting ready for a fight. Across from her, Mr. and Mrs. Rothem shifted uneasily.

Mrs. Rothem was the first to speak. Her voice was soft, almost tentative. “You must be Margaret McLair, right?” She was about to stand up, stretching her hand towards Mother to introduce herself properly. “I’m-”

“I know who you are,” Mother said flatly, cutting her off without hesitation. “The question is, what are you doing here?”

I felt a jolt inside me, my heart pounding as I turned to watch the Rothems’ reaction.

Mr. and Mrs. Rothem exchanged glances. A flicker of discomfort passed between them before Mrs. Rothem tried again. “We… we came to see Skylar and-”

Mother didn’t let her finish again. “And do what exactly? Is it now that you

  • Sweet Submission: Love Me, Mr. Billionaire    Unexpected Signs

Skylar“…the new collection is showing promising numbers,” Mr. Hales said, flipping through a report in the conference room. “But to sustain the momentum, we might need to expand into more international markets… maybe a small pop-up event in Paris or Milan?”Another director nodded in agreement. “That could work. We already have the partnerships. We just need to push visibility and luxury branding.”I tried to focus. Really, I did. I nodded faintly, pretending to be fully engaged, but my eyelids felt unbearably heavy. I had barely done anything this morning, yet my body felt like I’d spent the night carrying sacks of cement up a hill.I blinked hard, trying to shake off the sleep. Maybe I didn’t sleep well? Or maybe I was coming down with something. Whatever it was, I could feel it draining me little by little.“…Mrs. Buckman?”My name echoed across the room, pulling me back to reality. I jerked up slightly in my seat, realizing everyone was staring at me.Mr. Hales looked concerned.

AmberI shot up from my chair so fast that it nearly toppled backward. My heart nearly skipped a beat when I saw Marcus walk into the dining room. What the hell was he doing here?My father rose to his feet immediately, his face lighting up with an enthusiasm I rarely ever saw from him. “Mr. Yale! You're highly welcome. I’m glad you could make it.” He extended a firm handshake, his tone unusually warm.Marcus smiled politely. “It’s my pleasure, sir. I’ve been looking forward to this evening.”Their hands met, and they exchanged a few pleasantries while my mother, ever the perfect hostess, gestured for the servants to add an extra plate to the table. I barely heard any of it. My mind was already spinning, trying to connect the dots. Then it hit me… hard. Marcus was the investor my father had been talking about! Before anyone could say anything, I pushed back my chair and stormed toward Marcus, ignoring my parents’ puzzled looks.“Marcus,” I said through clenched teeth, “come with me. N

Amber“Skylar, you have no idea how nervous I am right now,” I muttered over the phone, balancing it on the lamp stand while I bent to put on my shoe. “I seriously don’t even know what to expect in the family house I’m going to. Left for me, I wouldn’t go at all. But you know my father... he’d probably send the police to drag me there if I didn’t show up.”Skylar chuckled softly through the phone. “You’re acting like you’re about to face a firing squad, Amber. Maybe it’s just something about work. You always overthink these things.”I sighed, slipping on the other shoe and checking my reflection in the mirror. “I hope you’re right,” I mumbled. “I just wish Xavier was here right now. It’s just wrong timing that he had to go on that business trip with Cole.”Skylar sighed too. “I miss my husband too. It feels strange not having him around the house, especially at night.”I just had to roll my eyes, even though she couldn’t see me. “Skylar! Please, stop reminding us single women that you

  • Sweet Submission: Love Me, Mr. Billionaire    Missing Pieces

ColeI stared at Luciana, unable to hide the irritation rising inside me. Her words made no sense at all. Amelia missing? “What sort of nonsense game are you trying to pull this time?” I asked sharply. My tone came out harsher than I meant, but I didn’t care.Luciana’s eyes widened. She quickly shook her head, her voice trembling. “No, Cole. This is not a game. I would never use my sister’s life to gamble.”She reached into her pocket with shaky hands and pulled out a folded photograph. She hesitated for a second before pushing it toward me. “Someone kidnapped Amelia from the prison in Austria,” she said in a broken tone. “They replaced her with another woman. That person in there now isn’t her.”I didn’t move. I just stared at her, unsure if I should believe any of it. Every instinct in me screamed not to trust her. “You expect me to believe this?” I asked coldly.Luciana’s lips trembled, but she didn’t back down. “I’m not lying, Cole. Just look.”Finally, I took the picture from

ColeI turned off the engine and leaned back in the driver’s seat, staring blankly through the windshield at the small restaurant ahead. For a moment, I just sat there, gripping the steering wheel, trying to steady the rush of thoughts in my head. My pulse hadn’t stopped racing since I received that message.I honestly didn’t know what I was doing here. What if it was a setup?A trap from a rival company?Or maybe some kind of prank?I’d considered all of that on my way here, and yet, here I was… alone.I exhaled sharply and shook my head, trying to get a grip. “Get it together, Cole,” I muttered under my breath. Maybe it was just curiosity, or maybe it was something deeper—something that made me feel like I needed to see this through myself.I stepped out of the car and walked into the restaurant. The soft chime above the door rang as I entered, and almost immediately, a waiter appeared. He was tall, acted polite, and strangely expectant, as if he had been waiting just for me.“Mr. B

  • Sweet Submission: Love Me, Mr. Billionaire    Echoes of the Past

ColeI leaned back in my office chair and sighed, setting aside one of the files. It had been a long morning… meetings, calls, reports. I was halfway through reading a report when a firm knock sounded at the door.“Come in,” I said, not looking up.“Cole.”I looked up and nodded. “Xavier. What is it?”He closed the door behind him and walked toward my desk.“There’s a little issue at the new construction site in Riverdale,” he began. “The indigenes living near the site are protesting again. They’re saying our work is affecting their water source and farmland.”I frowned slightly. “Didn’t we settle that matter last month? I thought the environmental team already ran tests and cleared everything.”“They did,” he confirmed. “But this time, it’s not about the report. The people said some of their trees were cut down without proper notice. They’re demanding compensation, and a few of them blocked the trucks this morning.”I sighed, rubbing my temple. “Of course they did. There’s always som
