The hum of the server racks in Bagas’s basement data center usually sounded like routine background noise, but tonight, every electronic chirp felt like a ticking clock. Galen Prakoso stood over the primary diagnostic terminal, his tailored sleeves rolled up to his elbows, watching lines of encrypted metadata cascade down the dual monitors.

"Talk to me, Bagas. Give me a clean trace," Galen commanded, his voice tight with the residual adrenaline of the federal audit earlier that day.

Bagas slammed his palm onto the mechanical keyboard, his eyes darting across three separate screens reflecting a dizzying array of blue and green code. "I'm trying, boss, but someone is actively bouncing this signal across a dozen proxy servers in the Cayman Islands. It’s a ghost ping. Every time I get a lock on the IP address, the endpoint scrambles itself."

"Is it Haris’s legal team?" Nurin asked, stepping out of the shadows near the server racks. She had traded her corporate jumpsuit for a simple dark hoodie, her hair loose around her shoulders. She crossed her arms, staring at the erratic waveforms on the monitor. "Haris doesn't have the tech infrastructure left to run a blind trace from a federal cell."

"It’s not Haris," Bagas muttered, hitting a final, aggressive sequence of keys that brought up a grainy, low-resolution video feed in a small window in the corner of the screen. "Look at the compression algorithm on this data packet. This isn't corporate espionage. It’s an open broadcast channel."

Galen leaned closer to the monitor, his dark eyes narrowing. "Play it."

The static on the small screen flared for a fraction of a second before resolving into a dark, shadowy room. A single overhead light hung over a metal table, casting long, harsh shadows across a man's face. The man wasn't Haris, and he wasn't one of Yudha’s shadow operatives. He was younger, wearing a nondescript dark jacket, and he was staring directly into the lens of a hidden camera with an unsettling, dead-eyed smirk.

"Galen Prakoso," the man’s voice crackled through the tinny desktop speakers, distorted by a digital voice-modifier. "And Mrs. Prakoso. I hope you're enjoying the view from the top of your shiny new glass tower in the SCBD."

Nurin took a sharp step forward, her hands clenching into fists at her sides. "Who is that?"

"You don't know my name," the figure on the screen continued, leaning forward as if he could see right through the monitor into the basement. "And honestly, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you think the game is over just because Haris Danuarta is sitting in a federal cage. Haris was a figurehead. A distraction. While you two were busy tearing down his paper empire, the real board of directors was busy restructuring."

Galen’s jaw tightened, a muscle ticking violently beneath his skin. "Trace the ping, Bagas. Now."

"I am!" Bagas cursed, his fingers flying across the keys like lightning. "The firewall is fighting me—he's spoofing the location tags!"

"Don't bother wasting your hacker's time, Mr. Prakoso," the digital voice mocked, tilting its head. "The feed is coming from everywhere and nowhere. But the message is simple: Qistina Investments wasn't just my father's project, and it wasn't just Haris's leverage. It’s a multi-generational debt. And now that you've merged the companies, Prakoso-Qistina Holdings has inherited every single liability."

The screen flickered violently, a burst of high-pitched static washing out the audio.

"Check your corporate master server, Galen," the voice whispered just before the transmission abruptly cut to black. "The audit from hell hasn't even started yet."

The monitor went completely dark, reflecting the grim, pale faces of Galen, Nurin, and Bagas in the harsh fluorescent light of the basement.

"Boss," Bagas breathed, staring at the dead terminal with wide eyes. "The ping just landed. It wasn't the Caymans. The terminal trace just routed back to our own internal network. Specifically... the executive sub-basement server in our new headquarters."

Galen didn't hesitate. He spun on his heel, grabbing his jacket off the back of a chair. "Nurin, stay here."

"Like hell I will," Nurin snapped, already moving toward the exit ahead of him. "That’s my family's name they’re using to threaten us. I'm coming."

"Move," Galen ordered, drawing his Sig Sauer from its holster and racking the slide with a sharp, lethal snap as they bolted out of the data center toward the private elevators.

The ride up to the executive sub-basement felt agonizingly slow. When the doors finally chimed open, they were greeted not by the sterile hum of servers, but by the acrid smell of burnt plastic and ozone.

"Someone fried the primary terminal," Bagas whispered, shining a tactical flashlight down the dim, concrete-walled corridor.

Galen led the way, his gun raised, clearing the corners with practiced, military precision. They reached the main diagnostic hub of the sub-basement. The glass screen of the primary server rack had been smashed to pieces. Dangling from the exposed wiring was a small, sleek black flash drive—blinking with a slow, malevolent green light.

Nurin stepped past Galen, ignoring his warning gesture, and knelt down in front of the ruined terminal. She reached out, her fingers hovering just an inch above the blinking device.

"Don't touch it, Nurin. It could be a logic bomb," Galen warned, keeping his weapon trained on the dark shadows of the corridor.

"It’s not a bomb," Nurin said, her voice eerily calm as she pinched the edges of the flash drive and pulled it free from the ruined port. "It’s a physical drop."

She stood up, holding the small device in the palm of her hand. Attached to the back of the drive was a tiny, adhesive paper label. Scrawled across it in hurried, black ink was a single word and a set of coordinates:

CHECKMATE. Menteng Sector 4 - 03:00 AM.

Galen stared at the slip of paper, the cold realization settling into his chest like a block of ice. The war wasn't over. Haris had just been the opening act.

"Get the car ready, Bagas," Galen said, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous growl. "We’re going to Menteng."

The rain had finally slowed to a stubborn, freezing mist by the time Galen and Nurin touched down on the private helipad of the Prakoso-Qistina tower. Their tactical gear was soaked through, smelling faintly of gunpowder and ozone, but neither of them broke stride as they bypassed the primary elevators and headed straight for the sub-level intelligence vault.Bagas was already waiting for them by the master console, a half-empty can of cold energy drink in one hand and a heavily modified decryption deck in the other. His eyes were bloodshot, glowing under the harsh fluorescent lights of the bunker.

The private elevator didn't just climb; it clawed its way upward, tearing through forty floors of reinforced steel and concrete with a breathless, vertical violence that pressed Galen and Nurin’s backs hard against the brushed-steel walls. The digital floor counter glowed in a harsh, bleeding red, ticking upward with terrifying speed: 42... 45... 48...Galen stood with his weight balanced evenly on the balls of his feet, his weapon held at a low, defensive ready. His dark eyes were fixed on the polished metal doors, a muscle ticking rhythmically in his clenched jaw. Every instinct honed by a lifetime of corporate warfare and underground survival screamed that the car was a coffin.
