I had taken longer than usual to return to the office because Lucas had insisted on driving me there. But I wasn’t going to let that happen. It would blow our cover far too quickly.

When I arrived, everyone looked at me strangely. Was it because I was late? Or because I was still new and had already taken several days off? One thing about me, though, was that I cared very little about what people thought. Ignoring the curious stares, I quietly made my way to my office.

I let out a slow sigh as I settled behind my desk. The stack of Sinclair Enterprises files waiting for me was enormous, so I began reviewing the company’s financial records one by one. The deeper I looked, the more shocked I became. Almost all the funding that had helped Damon expand his company had come from Sinclair Enterprises.

How was that even possible? I was the one who had spent countless sleepless nights building Damon’s company, yet when I traced the financial records more carefully, I discovered that he had been receiving money from the Sinclairs for years under the guise of family partnerships.

My brows furrowed. I wasn’t sure whether Lucas had already noticed it, but several of the transactions looked highly suspicious. Some of the money had clearly been taken through illegal channels. I leaned back in my chair, my expression darkening. Who had held this position before I arrived? There was no way the Executive Manager position had been vacant all this time.

I called one of the employees into my office. “I need the employment records of the previous Executive Manager,” I instructed calmly.

“Right away, Mrs. Larson.”

After he left, I stared at the documents again. So while I had been exhausting myself day and night for Damon… he had secretly been using Sinclair money to enrich himself. The realization made my blood boil. I had sacrificed everything for him while he barely invested anything into his own company.

A few minutes later, the employee returned with the personnel file. The moment I saw the photo, recognition flashed across my face. I had seen this man before. He was always with Damon. So… Damon had placed his own friend in this position. No wonder the accounts were such a mess. They had been stealing from Sinclair Enterprises together.

“Good job, Damon,” I muttered coldly.

The very first thing I did was call the finance department. “Effective immediately,” I ordered, “freeze every pending transaction connected to these partnership accounts until further notice.”

“Yes, Mrs. Larson.”

Then I drafted a formal email detailing the irregularities and sent it directly to Damon’s office. A faint smile appeared on my lips. I was certain he would panic the moment he saw it. And this time… he was going to pay back every single cent he had taken.

Just then, my phone buzzed. An alarm. Time to take your medicine. I blinked. Had Lucas set this? This morning, he had casually asked to borrow my phone… was this what he had been doing?

A small, helpless smile tugged at my lips. I opened my handbag to take out the medicine, only to discover a small container of freshly cut fruit tucked neatly beside it. There was even a folded note. Eat these before taking your medicine.

My heart softened. Without realizing it, I smiled as I quietly finished the fruit before taking my tablets.

A moment later, my phone buzzed again. I assumed it was another reminder. Instead, it was a message from Lucas.

It was one of the maids. She was spying on us. Mrs. Carter planted her in the house.

I stared at the screen in disbelief. “What?” How obsessed was that woman?

I immediately stood up and hurried toward Lucas’s office, intending to speak with him. But when I arrived… he wasn’t there. Letting out a disappointed sigh, I turned around and headed back toward my office.

Halfway down the corridor, I bumped into someone. “Maya…”

I hadn’t expected her to come to work today. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Guilt immediately washed over me.

“Hi, Maya,” I said nervously. Before she could respond, I took a deep breath. “I’m sorry about that night,” I said sincerely. “I never meant to make you feel that way. I know I questioned you, but I wasn’t trying to accuse you. I was only trying to understand what had happened. I’m really sorry.”

For a second, Maya simply looked at me. Then, to my surprise, she gently placed both hands on my shoulders. “What are you talking about?” she asked with a warm smile. “You’re my sister. Why would I stay angry at you for something like that?”

I blinked. Wait… she wasn’t angry with me?

15“Lucas…”I looked at him as he gently pressed a warm towel against my forehead.“Hm?” he responded without looking up, his attention fixed on me.“I’m not feeling that bad,” I said softly. “Please, this really isn’t—”“Hey, Junia,” he interrupted politely. He finally looked at me, his expression calm but firm. “How am I supposed to explain to Mr. and Mrs. Larson that their daughter developed a high fever under my watch?” He paused before adding, “Besides, your hair is still cold and damp. Junia… please, let me bring your fever down.”I sighed, a small smile tugging at my lips. Apart from my parents, no one had ever taken care of me like this. No one. I had always been the one taking care of everyone else. Then my smile slowly faded as Maya crossed my mind. She had left the house because of me. She probably thought I didn’t care about her anymore. As though he had read my thoughts, Lucas spoke quietly. “Junia.”I looked up.“Maya will come around.” His voice remained steady. “You we

It’s a simple question, Maya,” Junia said, her voice smooth, level, and entirely devoid of anger. “Mrs. Carter was remarkably well-informed about our living arrangements tonight. Aside from the household staff, who answered directly to Lucas long before I arrived, you are the only person who roams this house freely at all hours.”I sighed. I knew nothing about this whole thing. I let out a small scoff. “Junia, how could you accuse me of that?” My voice trembled as I looked pleadingly toward Lucas. “I’m your cousin! I’ve done nothing but support you through your divorce! Lucas, you know me. I would never gossip about your private life to Damon’s family!”“She knew about our office interactions. She knew about our rooms.”“Stop, Junia,” I cut in. I had already noticed she no longer interacted with me the way she did when she first arrived. Maybe she didn’t need me anymore. “I won’t sit here and watch you tarnish my name in front of Lucas. He may be your husband, but he’s my boss too. I

The silence that followed the sharp crack of the slap was absolute. Mrs. Carter’s hand trembled against her swelling cheek, her mouth agape as she stared in total shock at Mrs. Sinclair. “Carol… you slapped me?” Mrs. Carter’s voice was barely a breath, choked with humiliation. “I should do far worse than slap you,” Mrs. Sinclair said, her posture rigid, her tone carrying a terrifying, frozen fury. “You locked a six-year-old child in an unlit, abandoned building in the dark. For what? To frame Junia? To feed your pathetic, bitter vendetta?” “I didn’t—the brat is lying! Junia must have told her to say that!” Mrs. Carter shrieked, backing away frantically. “Enough!” Lucas’s voice thundered through the grand hall, cutting through her frantic excuses like a gavel striking stone. He didn’t raise his hands, but his presence alone forced everyone in the room to take a step back. Standing right beside him, I could feel the intense heat radiating from his chest, his jaw set in a line of ir

"Did anyone check the estate security cameras?" I asked immediately, my mind racing as my administrative instincts kicked into high gear."Security is reviewing the main gates now, but the perimeter fence near the gardens has a blind spot," Lucas said, his eyes scanning the dark treeline surrounding the Sinclair property. "Leah is panicking inside. If Aria wandered off into the grounds..."He didn't need to finish the sentence. The Sinclair estate stretched across acres of unlit private woods, complete with a natural drainage pond at the edge of the property."She wouldn't wander off on her own during a family gathering," I said firmly, walking back toward the garden patio. "Aria was sitting right next to her mother. Someone had to have enticed her or taken her away from the dining hall."Without wasting another second, we hurried back inside. The living room had descended into complete chaos. Leah was kneeling on the floor, crying uncontrollably as one of Lucas’s sisters tried to com

11“Different bedrooms, Mrs. Carter?” I asked, my voice calm and completely unbothered. “I didn’t realize the layout of my husband’s home had become your concern. Then again, I suppose when your own family is falling apart, keeping track of mine is the only entertainment you have left.”Her face immediately darkened. “Don’t you dare speak to me like that, Junia!” she snapped. “You think wearing expensive clothes and clinging to Lucas Sinclair suddenly makes you royalty? I know exactly what you are—a manipulative little snake! You dragged my Damon through the mud, humiliated our family in front of the entire city, and for what? A fake marriage to a man who doesn’t even share a bed with you.”She stepped closer, lowering her voice. “I know everything,” she whispered with a smug smile. “I’ve been told how Lucas treats you at the office. Cold. Professional. Nothing more. You think you’ve won, but you’re nothing more than a pawn in his game. Once he’s done using you to destroy Damon, he’ll
