The Lab

We walked pretty far in silence, passing a couple buildings along the way, but for the most part everything was pretty much spaced out two football fields apart with nothing between. The cabin must be located close to the border of this pack’s territory, not like I’d know anything about it but I felt like it was a pretty decent assumption.

“Hey Noah?” He looks at me from the side of his eye and waits for me to continue, “I really want steak, I’ve been sleeping for 3 days, I’m starving and I want steak, so is there any way that could happen?” I pasted on a sweet smile, and blinked my eyelashes up at him. He looks away smiling, “Steak huh?” He lifts his eye brow and looks back at me. “I think I can make that happen,” he says and winks at me. Star is already drooling. I guess she’s excited for that as much as I am. “Wait, can you taste what I eat?” I ask her. “In a sense,” she says, “Just as I can feel your pain.” I think too hard on that and realize Noah’s been talking to me. My eyes go wide. “Sorry I was lost in thought,” I try to explain it that way instead, “What were you saying?” He turns up a path leading to a building entrance. “We’re here, we shouldn’t take too long, then we can get you some food, sound good?” He asks. “Yeah that sounds great actually.”

I’m honestly nervous, but I’m trying to hide it and focus on the fact that this will provide the answers I need. We enter the building and go down a couple hallways till he opens a door to what looks like an exam room on one side and a science lab on the other. “The contract is on the table there, I’ve already signed, go over it and I’ll answer any questions you have.” He walks over to a computer and starts working on it. I go to the table and pick up the contract, “Star point out anything you don’t agree with okay? This is binding you as much as it is me,” I tell her. “Of course,” she replies. We read it over but find it’s exactly what I asked for, word for word, including the one condition Noah stated.

“Hmm” I said out loud. Noah turns around and looks over at me. “Something wrong?” He asks leaning back against the desk. “Actually no, I’m just surprised it’s exactly what I asked for,” I said still looking over it making sure I didn’t miss anything in fine print or something. I turn it over and hold it up into the light. He shakes his head at me, “Akira, we’re not here to take anything that you are not willing to give.” He’s so serious. “I like him,” Star points out her unwanted opinion. “Shhh” I tell her. I put the contract on the table and look around for a pen. Noah walks over and hands me one but when I reach for it he pulls back. “Are you sure?” He looks at me, and I stare into those deep blue eyes and feel… safe. “Yes,” I pluck the pen out of his hand and sign the contracts, one for me and one for him.

“Okay, sit down over there and I’ll draw some blood. I’m also going to take some samples from the bite marks on your shoulder,” he explains. I sit on the exam bed but reexamine what he just said to me, “Wait, you are going to do all this? Where’s Dr. Zane?,” I ask confused. He walks over to me with a tray and sets it down beside me. “I have a degree in medical biology. I was focused on biological sciences before I became Alpha. I actually have more knowledge in this specific area than Dr. Zane,” he smirks at that last comment. “Wow, I never would have thought,” I said genuinely surprised and impressed. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me Akira,” he says. “Of course there is, no one tells me anything around here,” I say as he pulls my shirt down from my shoulder to give him access to that area and wipes the bite mark with what smells like alcohol and grabs things from the tray, I look away not wanting to see.

“There’s a lot I don’t even know about myself,” I add in a whisper. He pulls my chin with his finger to look at him, “This will change that.” He takes my eyes hostage, “and anything you want to know little wolf, all you gotta do is ask.” He lets go of my chin but not my eyes. I take a huge breath, realizing I’d stopped breathing.
