I walk out to the destroyed cabin and find another bag of clothes waiting on the bed. I’m happy to finally have some clean clothes but I wish they were my own. “Beggars can’t be choosers,” Star says. “Any other words of wisdom almighty wolf?” I ask her. “Yes as a matter of fact, little mind reader I do. But now I won’t share them with you.” She huffs. “What did you just call me?” She doesn’t answer. “Star!” I yell out loud. “You read their minds, I’m not sure how yet but I’ve been thinking on it. And it reminded me of what happened back in the cell, how we heard the pack members going over plans, exit routes, torture practices, all of it.” I wince at the reminder of the things I don’t ever want think about again. “Your eyes were swollen closed, and all you were thinking about was how to get out and what they were going to do next,” she continued. “Star please get to the point,” the memory was too painful to look back on.
“Why would they say those things out loud?” Is all she asks. I finished changing into a cropped T-shirt and leggings then sat on the bed contemplating this, “Well first it’s not like they thought I was ever going to get out,” I say stating the obvious, “So they probably didn’t find the need to speak through mind link and maybe it could have just been a scare tactic? I don’t know Star they were all psychopaths eager to kill and…” I didn’t want to finish that thought or go anywhere near it. “So you don’t think you could have been tapping into their mind link by reading their minds and overhearing their conversations?” She says still unsure herself. “You don’t think I could really have that much power Star do you? First shields, then emotions, and most recently a blinding light force or whatever the hell that was and now mind reading? Not to mention the differences Dr. Zane pointed out,” I couldn’t be that special could I? Even X-men only had one power each, but I seem to be Thanos right now collecting them like infinity stones. “I’m not some super wolf just because I was turned and not born,” I conclude. “I guess we’re going to find out,” Star adds as Noah walks in. “Ready?” I turn around and see he’s in a track suit now with the hoodie unzipped. No. Fucking. Shirt. Underneath. “I think you’re forgetting something,” I tell him as I turn around and look at the floor for my hair brush. “And what would that be?” He teases. I just shake my head, I’m not taking the bait. I’m not flirting. I need to refocus on why I’m here and it’ll be easier now that I’m not in heat anymore.. right? I hear him zip up his sweater as I finally find my brush and turn around. “Can you do me a favour?” I ask. He leans against the door frame and crosses his arms. “Depends.” He replies. “You know what, never mind, I want to have the contract signed before I say anything else.” I finished my hair and threw the brush on the bed. I walked up to him but had to stop because he didn’t move to leave. “Well,” I said motioning to leave, “Are you going to show me to your medical facility or not?” He stares down at me and does his one eye brow thing. I just wait, knowing he’ll eventually turn around to go. He lets a couple more moments pass just staring at me, now I feel like this is a game and I am not going to play. I walk around him into the cool, night air and look up at the stars. You can see so many from here, it’s amazing. It’s almost as if they’re twinkling just for me. Noah walks out beside me and looks up to see what I’m looking at, “What is it?” He asks. “Beauty,” I say. He just looks at me. “Don’t they look so peaceful up there,” I turn to look at him, “the stars protect the moon you know,” I smile, “they’re the warriors of the sky.” He smiles, “You’re glowing little wolf,” he says and I look down at my self quickly inspecting and he starts to laugh, like really laugh. I punch his arm, “Stop that!” I glare at him and he just shakes his head and starts to walk away, “I can’t believe you thought you were actually glowing,” I run to catch up to him. “Well it happened in my dream,” I mumbled not realizing I was really saying anything out loud. He glances back, considering saying something but doesn’t and just keeps leading the way.I grab my wine glass and force down another sip trying to wash away the sins forming in my head. Noah takes another sip before finally replying, “What if I do like you?” My eyes snap to his. “You don’t even know me,” I say, trying to back track already, my breath faltering. “Do I need to know everything about you to be attracted to you?” His smirk makes my heart rate pick up speed. “Those are two very different things, don’t you think?” I tell him. “I think they can also go hand in hand,” he counters. I can’t help my breathing as it picks up pace as well now. “Are you saying you’re not attracted to me Akira?” He confidently asks. “I-….” I’m left speechless. His blunt reactions are catching me off guard and I’m not sure how to react to it. Physically, my body is reacting positively to his words and Stars’ purrs through the bond aren’t helping. “I’ll take that as a yes,” he’s full on grinning now, and I fear I might never want him to stop. “You’re extremely confident Noah,” I say as I

“What else would you like to know little wolf?” He asked in a slightly playful manner. As the one question that forever aches through my soul burns in my mouth, the server drops off another wine bottle and I hurriedly take it, pouring a huge glass. Noah’s eyebrow did the signature move as he clicked his tongue. “Be careful,” he warns. I take a sip so big my cheeks puffed out with the amount of the liquid taking over my mouth and rapidly sliding down my throat. “Why me?” I finally ask. “Why you what?” A whisper of irritation slid through me, “Why did he choose me?” I study his face as if it holds every answer. His forehead tightened, shadows gathering above his eyes, “I’ll do whatever it takes to find that answer for you Akira, but right now I have no idea,” his answer cracks a little piece of my heart, but I know it’s not his fault, why would he know? “I’m sorry,” he murmurs softly as he reaches for the bottle and pours the same amount I did into his glass. My lips twitch as I force
“To be quite honest, I can’t tell you the last time I ever went on a date,” Noah says. “I just thought, after you asked for steak, that it would be a good idea to get you out of the cabin for a night and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have.” The slight rejection stings but I shove those feelings away. They are not going to do me any good so it’s better to pretend they don’t exist at all and definitely don’t act on them. My mind is racing at a mile a minute now with questions I need to ask, answers I need to know. “Is that why you’re being nice to me now, because I’m a super special turned wolf?” I ask. “You have absolutely no reason to trust me. No reason to believe anything that comes out of my mouth.” I ramble on, my attitude peaking through slightly, “So tell me Alpha Noah, why did you agree to have me “audition” for your pack?” I look at every inch of his face, my eyes roaming over every feature. I watch his jaw clench but his stoic expression remains. H
I stare at myself in the mirror, I look good. Apart from my scars of course. “You’re beautiful Akira, and maybe with the more information we get I can learn to heal you fully,” Star says. I wonder if I really would want my scars healed now. I feel like they show I’m a survivor, which makes me hate them a little less. “You are a survivor,” Star says. “We are survivors,” I add. “I wouldn’t be here without you, and you went through just as much as me,” I sigh. It’s the part of my story I’ll never forget, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to let it define me. The more I learn about my life, the more I’ll be in control of it. There are villains in every story, but I won’t give them more than a chapter in mine. I quickly use the washroom and let the cold water run on my hands for a while trying to cool down before going back out there. As I sit down back at the table I notice there’s a desert in front of my seat. The tiramisu looks absolutely delicious and has my full attention. “I ordered the
