PART 9

The sleek black car slowed as it approached the gates of the Philip mansion. The stone walls were high, and the gardens were manicured to perfection, reflecting a level of wealth that was almost intimidating.

Victor stepped out of the vehicle first. He paused for a second, straightening the lapels of his expensive wool jacket and taking a deep breath. Benjamin Philip was already waiting.

Victor extended his hand, and Benjamin met it with a firm, warm handshake. The grip lasted a second longer than usual a silent acknowledgment of the years that had passed between them.

“I hope we’re not late,” Victor said, his voice carrying its usual authority but softened by a hint of a smile.

“Late? Please. Just get inside already!” Benjamin laughed, his booming voice echoing in the large driveway. He reached out and pulled Victor forward, clapping him on the shoulder.

“Liz, bring them in! Don't let them stand in the cold.”

Benjamin Said to Elizabeth

It had been years since these two families had gathered under the same roof. As they walked toward the grand entrance, a quiet tension floated in the air.

It wasn't a hostile tension, but rather a soft, awkward feeling. The kind that happens when people realize they have secretly missed each other but don't know how to say it.

Elizabeth stepped forward and hugged Isabell tightly. They didn't speak at first. The hug said everything. It was a desperate embrace, as though they were trying to physically stitch back together all the years they had lost to pride and silence. With bright smiles and eyes that shimmered with unshed tears, the two families finally stepped into the warmth of the mansion.

Today wasn’t just a social visit. It was the day they were going to finalize the wedding date for Zane and Ryan.

A moment later, the final car pulled up. Zane and Adam stepped out, the gravel crunching beneath their shoes. Waiting for them at the massive oak doors were Ryan and his sister, Olivia.

“Livvy!” Zane called out. A genuine, bright smile broke across his face as he hurried toward her.

“Look at you,” Olivia teased, immediately pulling him into a big hug. She pulled back to look at his face, her eyes dancing with mischief.

“Getting more handsome every time I see you. Come on, what’s the secret? Is it some expensive skincare? Tell me, I won’t snitch to Ryan, I promise.”

Zane laughed, burying his face in her shoulder for a second. Olivia was like the sister he always wanted. She reached out and ruffled Adam’s hair next. Adam flinched slightly but then smiled; Olivia had always treated him like a little brother, ignoring the social gap between them.

However, the warm welcome wasn't shared by everyone. Zane felt a sudden heat on the side of his face a stare so intense it felt like he was being roasted alive.

He turned his head slightly and saw Ryan.

Ryan was standing a few feet away, his arms crossed over his chest. His eyes were narrowed, and his jaw was tight. He was furious . Again. Even over a hug from his own sister, Ryan’s possessiveness was bubbling to the surface.

“If you two are done cuddling, can we please go inside? It’s freezing,” Ryan snapped, his voice sharp enough to cut glass.

Zane rolled his eyes but followed, a small smirk playing on his lips. They started moving toward the house, but Ryan noticed one person had stopped at the bottom of the steps.

“Adam? why are you standing there like you need a written invitation?” Ryan asked, looking back.

Adam shifted his weight from one foot to the other, looking down at his shoes. “I..I’ll just wait outside. You can just call me when you’re ready to leave,” he muttered.

“What? Why on earth would you stay out here?” Olivia asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.

“No, Livvy, it’s just…” Adam struggled to find the words. “I shouldn’t intrude. This is a private family day. And... Victor wouldn’t like me wandering around inside the house while you're discussing important things.”

Olivia crossed her arms, her expression softening into one of firm sisterly love. “Adam, look at me. This is our home. Not your Boss's And in this house, you don’t need anyone’s permission to walk through the door. Now, come inside.”

Adam hesitated. He always did. Being the son of Victor’s personal driver meant he had grown up in the shadows of greatness. He spent his childhood watching the "important" people enjoy things he felt he didn’t deserve.

Even the clothes he wore today a neatly pressed suit that fit him perfectly—were hand-me-downs that Victor had insisted he take. I

nside Adam, gratitude and humiliation were always tangled together. He felt like a guest in a world where he was only meant to be a servant.

“Adam.” Olivia raised an eyebrow, her voice taking on a warning tone.

That was enough to break his hesitation. He lowered his head and hurried up the steps, following them into the grand foyer.

Inside the drawing room, the atmosphere was different. Elizabeth and Isabell sat together on a velvet sofa, away from the men. The tea sat untouched on the table between them as they spoke in low, emotional tones.

“I can’t believe how long it’s been,” Elizabeth whispered, reaching out to touch Isabell’s hand.

“You look so different now. Honestly, Isabell... all those years we didn't speak... it felt like losing a sister.”

Isabell smiled, but it was a sad, tired smile.

“You haven’t changed at all, Liz. Still as soft hearted as the day I met you. I’ve really tried to bring Victor and Benjamin together over the years. But you know Victor, if a man chooses to be stubborn, there’s not much a wife can do.”

Elizabeth sighed, wiping a tear from her cheek.

“Old wounds don’t go away easily. Victor and Ben were so close. The dispute among them was hurting Ben so much even if he never said it out loud, the resentment just stayed there, rotting.”

Elizabeth opened up

“And yet,” Isabell said, her voice dropping to a whisper,

“look at how things change. Years ago, when Zane first told his father he couldn’t love a girl... Victor was furious. He was absolutely livid. I thought the house would burn down from his anger. And now look at him. He’s accepting Zane exactly as he is. He’s choosing a partner for him, not fighting against him. Life changes people in strange, beautiful ways.”

Elizabeth leaned in closer, her face clouded with a sudden worry.

“I’m happy for them, Isabell. Truly. Ryan deserves someone as strong as Zane. But... is it wrong that I’m scared? What if they’re not fully ready? They are both so young, so intense. What if we are rushing them into this just to heal our own family's broken pieces?”

Isabell squeezed her hand firmly. “Zane would burn the entire world down for the people he loves. I know my son. Ryan will be safe with him. He will be cherished. I promise you.”

For the first time in nearly a decade, the two mothers talked without filters. They shared their deepest fears, their regrets about the past, and their hopes for a peaceful future. It felt like they were slowly stitching together a friendship that had been carelessly torn apart years ago.

In the study, the mood was more professional. The smell of expensive cigars and old books filled the room.

“So… shall we confirm that date, Victor?” Benjamin asked, leaning over a calendar on his desk.

Victor nodded, his face serious but satisfied.

“Absolutely. Jamie’s university classes were the only scheduling issue, but they end next month. Everything lines up perfectly for the following week.”

Standing in the corner of the room, Adam froze. His heart skipped a beat.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” Adam whispered under his breath, his eyes widening in horror.

Benjamin turned his head, hearing the faint murmur. “Everything okay, Adam? Any suggestions for the date?”

Adam felt like his soul was about to exit his body. For three years, he had managed to survive Jamie only because they were in different cities. They only interacted through annoying, stressful phone calls. Dealing with Jamie from a distance was already a form of torture for Adam.

Now, the "menace" was returning home full time?

“No, Uncle, nothing at all,” Adam said quickly, his voice an octave higher than usual. He didn't dare look toward Victor, fearing his facial expression would give away his internal panic.

“Good,” Benjamin said, turning back to Victor. “Then the date is settled. Next month, they marry.”

The two fathers stood up and shook hands. After years of looking past each other at public events or avoiding eye contact in the streets, their eyes finally met and stayed there.

The families were finally coming together, but the days ahead were about to get very, very complicated.

But the way people stopped in their tracks to watch the scene gave Adam a heavy dose of second-hand embarrassment. "Let them stare, I don’t care," Jamie huffed against Adam’s shoulder, refusing to budge. PART 8 Writer's POV The dim light of the apartment cast long, heavy shadows across the room, matching the mood of the two men sitting inside. Zane leaned back against the sofa, his eyes fixed on a point on the wall that didn't exist. He looked exhausted, the kind of tired that sleep couldn't fix. “Wait, Zane… are you actually serious about this?” Adam asked, leaning forward. “Yeah, Adam. I’ve already decided,” Zane replied, his voice low and steady. He let out a long, shaky breath. “You know how my father works. If he sets his mind on something, he’ll go to any extreme to make it happen. He doesn’t take 'no' for an answer. This way… at least nobody gets hurt. I’m doing this to keep the peace.” Adam frowned, his concern deepening. He had known the Bennett family for years, and "peace" was never a word he associated with Victor. “But Zane… why is he suddenly acting like a saint? Think about it. He never cared about friendship,

PART 7 The ticking of the watch on Ryan’s wrist sounded like a countdown in the quiet corner of the restaurant. He checked it for the tenth time in five minutes. Ryan was a man whose life was measured in spreadsheets and back-to-back meetings. Squeezing this encounter into his schedule had been a nightmare, yet here he was, sitting alone with a cold cup of water. "Someone who has zero sense of punctuality," Ryan muttered, his grip tightening on his phone. Another ten minutes crawled by. His patience, usually a sturdy wall, was crumbling into dust. He started to wonder if this was all a cruel joke. Had Zane invited him here just to make him wait? Just as Ryan pushed his chair back to leave, the heavy glass door of the cafe swung open. Zane walked in like he owned the air in the room. He looked casual, dangerously so with a full-sleeved shirt rolled up to his elbows and the top two buttons undone. He moved with a confident stride that seemed to ignore the fact that he

PART 6 The silence of the dark room was shattered by the aggressive blaring of a phone. Addy winced, the sound piercing through his skull like a needle. With a groan of pure exhaustion, he dragged a pillow over his ear, pressing down hard and praying that whoever was calling would just give up. The ringing stopped. Peace returned for exactly two seconds. Then, the melody started again, even louder than before. Half-asleep, irritated, and mourning the loss of a perfectly good dream, Addy fumbled in the dark. He snatched the vibrating device and pressed it to his ear without looking at the screen. "...Hello..." he muttered. His voice was a wreck rough, low, and heavy with sleep. "Addyyyyy... hey..." That honey-sweet, mischievously bright voice floated through the speaker. Addy didn't even need to check the caller ID. There was only one person in the world who had the audacity to call him at this hour every single night. Addy s
