THE WRONG VOW

(MISTAKENLY MARRIED TO THE RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE)

CHAPTER 7: THE HIDDEN CHAMBER

Rain poured heavily outside the abandoned church.

Thunder rumbled across the dark sky as Emily stared at the old photograph in her trembling hands.

Her mother...

Standing beside Alexander's mother.

Both smiling as though they shared a secret no one else was meant to know.

Alexander slowly took the picture from her.

"This photo is at least twenty years old."

Emily swallowed hard.

"Then... our families knew each other long before we were born."

Alexander nodded.

"I believe so."

Ethan stepped closer.

"Sir, there's something else."

Alexander turned.

"What is it?"

"The dust on the floor."

Everyone looked down.

Unlike the thick layer of dust covering the church, a trail of fresh footprints led behind the altar.

Someone had been there recently.

Alexander's expression hardened.

"They're not far."

He pulled a flashlight from his coat.

"Follow me."

Emily stayed close behind him as they walked toward the altar.

Behind it stood an old wooden cross.

Alexander pushed it aside.

A faint clicking sound echoed through the church.

Rumble...

The stone floor slowly shifted.

Emily gasped.

"A secret passage..."

Hidden beneath the altar was a narrow staircase leading underground.

Cold air drifted upward.

It smelled damp and forgotten.

Ethan immediately stepped forward.

"Sir, let me go first."

Alexander shook his head.

"No."

"If there's danger, I'll face it."

Without hesitation, he descended the stairs.

Emily followed despite her racing heart.

The underground tunnel stretched farther than any of them expected.

Ancient brick walls surrounded them.

Water dripped from the ceiling.

After several minutes...

They entered a large chamber.

Rows of dusty shelves lined the walls.

Old books...

Wooden crates...

Rusted weapons...

It looked like someone had hidden generations of secrets beneath the church.

Emily's eyes wandered across the room until they stopped on a large family portrait hanging on the wall.

She froze.

The woman in the portrait...

Was her mother.

Standing beside Victor Blackwood.

Between them stood two children.

One little girl...

And one little boy.

Emily's breathing became uneven.

"Alexander..."

He walked over.

The color drained from his face.

The little boy looked exactly like him.

The little girl looked exactly like Emily.

"But..." Emily whispered.

"This can't be real."

Alexander examined the faded painting.

"It isn't recent."

"It's decades old."

Emily stared at him.

"How could we be in a painting made before we were born?"

No one had an answer.

Then Ethan noticed something written beneath the frame.

He brushed away the dust.

"The Blackwood Legacy Project."

Emily frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Before Alexander could reply—

A slow clap echoed through the chamber.

Clap...

Clap...

Clap...

Everyone spun around.

A tall man dressed in black stepped out from the shadows.

His silver mask hid half of his face.

Behind him stood six armed men.

"I was wondering how long it would take."

Alexander immediately moved in front of Emily.

"Who are you?"

The masked man smiled.

"You may call me..."

"Raven."

Emily felt a chill run down her spine.

"The Raven Society..."

"So it still exists."

Raven laughed softly.

"We never disappeared."

"We simply allowed the world to believe we had."

Alexander's eyes narrowed.

"What do you want with Emily?"

Raven looked directly at her.

"She belongs to us."

Alexander's voice turned icy.

"She's my wife."

Raven's laughter echoed through the chamber.

"For now."

"But she was promised to us long before she became Mrs. Blackwood."

Emily's heart pounded.

"What are you talking about?"

"You'll learn soon enough."

Alexander stepped forward.

"You won't touch her."

Raven sighed.

"You sound exactly like your father."

Alexander froze.

"You knew Victor?"

"Knew him?"

Raven chuckled.

"I buried him."

Emily gasped.

Alexander lunged forward in fury.

Before he could reach Raven—

Smoke bombs exploded across the chamber.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Thick gray smoke filled the underground room.

Emily coughed violently.

She couldn't see anything.

Gunshots rang out.

Guards shouted.

Someone screamed.

The chamber erupted into chaos.

"Emily!"

Alexander's voice echoed somewhere nearby.

"I'm here!"

She reached through the smoke.

A hand grabbed hers.

Strong.

Warm.

She sighed in relief.

"Alexander—"

The stranger laughed.

It wasn't Alexander.

Emily's blood turned cold.

The smoke began to clear.

Standing before her...

Was Raven.

His gloved hand tightened around her wrist.

Alexander emerged from the smoke just in time to see Raven pulling Emily toward a hidden stone doorway.

Their eyes met.

Raven smiled beneath his silver mask.

"You want the truth?"

"Come and take it."

The stone door slammed shut.

Alexander ran toward it with all his strength.

But he was too late.

Emily was gone.

EPILOGUE — THE RIGHT KIND OF WRONG Once, Emily Dawson had believed that the worst day of her life was the day she was dragged to the altar of a man she had never met. She had believed the marriage was a punishment. A mistake. A cruel twist of fate. She had been right about one thing. It had been a mistake. Just not the kind she thought. Because that mistake had led her to Alexander. Alexander had led her to a family she never knew she needed. That family had led her through secrets, betrayal, bloodshed, loss, and war. And somehow, after everything, they were still standing. The world was finally quiet.

Victoria tried to move, but her body refused to respond. She tried to open her eyes. Nothing happened. She tried to scream. No sound came out. Then she heard something. A heartbeat. Slow. Weak. But there. Then another. Two tiny heartbeats. Her eyes remained closed. Yet she could hear them. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Her lips trembled. "Adrian..."

For several seconds, nobody spoke. The walls of the Omega chamber trembled around them. Dust fell from the ceiling. Somewhere above them, the First Creation released another terrifying roar, followed by the sound of metal collapsing. Richard stared at the words. "There has to be another way." Anita looked at him. "Why do you think you're different?" "Because we're not Genesis." Richard nodded. "That's the difference." Anita looked between them. "We don't have much time." His eyes remained fixed on the opening. Another tremor shook the estate. The ground beneath their feet rose several inches before crashing back down. Evelyn screamed. Andrew pulled her behind him.
