Chapter Twenty-One: The ride.
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE Lailai Pov The man in front of me had a scar on his eye which had sealed it closed. He was bulky and hairy with a mean snarl, the sleeves of his flannel shirt had rolled up to his elbow showing a band of tattoo. I remember him, he was there when I got initiated to the pack. I almost missed the fact but i could remember the face, it was caught on from a brief glance but he was there. “U-I was just asking hi-” he snarled at me interrupting my line of speech. “That didn’t seem like you were asking him any questions, you were harassing him for answers he doesn’t have to give.” The man responded. My eye narrowed and my lips formed in a thin line.  “I wasn’t bullying him,” I answered again. “In fact, i’

Chapter Twenty-Two: The Broken Castle
Chapter Twenty-TwoLaila POVIt was bigger than expected. In fact, i had no solid expectation but this surpassed it. The single tower stood tall and i tilted my head backwards to see all of it. There was a slight whooshing from beside me and i turned in time to see a half naked Ares beside me.“Geez, warn me next time.” i hissed using my hands to block the side of face. “You should know that every time a wolf transforms they end up naked, you should get used to it.” He said. “You can look now.” he had his short on this time and i glared at his bare chest. He raked his hands through his hair and glanced up at the castle, he sniffed the place and as if he could tell, he frowned.“What is it?” i asked and watched as he stalked towards the entrance.“Someone’s here.” he said and walked inside, i followed and paid attention to how cold the insides were. My fingers traced the insides to find my way in the darkness, just a considerate amount of the moon light washed into the place. It had

Chapter Twenty-Three: High Confrontations
Chapter Twenty-threeAtlas POVShe slumped in my arms as I carried her back to the house. I was on my way back to the main house when the sudden rush of danger crawled over my skin. It had led me to the castle where i saw Ares leaving but someone else was there and by the time I reached inside and found her crouched down in the corner with her breathing shallow. Now I was at the door which I kicked open with my feet, Ares was pacing around with his hands raking through his hair. He stopped when he noticed me in the room, there was a slight discomfort in his eyes which was replaced with disdain. His eyes moved to the person cradled in my arms. He turned to retreat, he had chosen to ignore the fact that something was back there and move on like it wasn’t a problem. It was nothing new, Ares had a way of hiding away from his problems rather than facing them head on, he might be the Alpha but his response to emotions are off the charts. Maybe that’s why he is the one leading the pack an

Chapter Twenty-Four: Attack and Invitations
Chapter Twenty-FourLaila PovThe tension in the house increased over the days, Ares was already cold to me and he made sure that i knew that. He didn’t spare me any glnace when he left the house which was nothing new but Atlas on the other hand. I hadn’t seen him since, everytime i had gone to his room he wasn’t in and i was by myself most of the time. This morning i decided to go out for an early morning, i opened my door quietly and tugged down the hem of my hoodie. There was a quick shuffle behind me and i turned to find Atlas who was stuck at the door.“Atla-” he entered back inside the room without sparing me a glance. I rushed to the door and placed my leg just before he could close the door. “Atlas-” I said calmly. He remained quiet and stayed behind the door. “Atlas, please talk to me.” “Move your leg Lai, i don’t want to hurt you.” He said and pushed the door, i realized that this was a fight where i was going to loose.“Oh-” i retreated and moved away. I started running t

Chapter Tweny-Five: The hunt
Chapter twenty-fiveLaila PovWhen Kevin told me about the race, i found out that i could use it as a perfect distraction from the problem at hand. I had dressed up in the most casual way possible, gym thighs, sports bra with a cropped hoodie to cover up. Neither Atlas adn Ares were in when i left and i jogged up to where Kevin said they were going to meet up. Ayesha who was talking to one of the guys stopped when she noticed me around, she continued but kept her eyes on me and called me over. I glanced around hoping to see Kevin but he wasn’t there yet and so i moved towards her and stood next to her.“Just make sure they’re at the borders and done with the inspection.” She said.“Yes ma’am.” the man responded and moved out leaving just me and Ayesha.“You’re here.” she stated glancing down at the watch strapped to her wrist. “Yes, i have nothing else better to do.” I answered checking the group of people that were forming around. “Will you be joining the run or will you just watc

Chapter Twenty-Six: Bad Decisions
Chapter Twenty-six Laila POV Before the hunt, I had taken out time to go through the geographical mapping of the area, it was easy to get it especially when it was right on Ares office wall. I agree that it wasn’t the best thing to do, i mean to sneak into his office, for some reason he seemed to lock it making it easier for me to go in. I had taken pictures quickly and stepped out before someone caught me and rushed back to the room where i replicated the image on paper and studied the outline. Now that we raced into the greenlands, i placed the images in my head in front of me as i slowed down the further we moved. The rest brushed past me and moved further into the darkness while i stopped and stared. I noticed that Kevin slowed down and turned back to find me, he rushed to me. “What are you doing? It’s not time to stop-” he said with urgency. “We should be movinng, the hunters will find us in no time if we delay.” “I’ll be fine just go on ahead without me.” I said turning away

Chapter Twenty-Seven: Her
Chapter Twenty-SevenLaila PovIt wasn’t a really smart move to go all out to the plains by myself, especially since it was my first time participating in the hunt, but from my instincts, this was the best option I could go with. It was natural to want to follow the rest of the prey into the forest where there would be more protection and a harder chance of getting found and even running away from the hunters if they eventually found them. “What are you doing Laila, you still have the chance to go back and do as Kevin says.” I muttered to myself but my legs kept on forward. It would be bad for me if I got caught a few minutes into the hunt, embarrassing if I was the first. It would just prove to Ayesha and even the rest of the pack that it wasn't any much of a big deal compared to what they expected. To say that the reaction from Atlas or even Ares would be one of disappointment, Atlas mostly, Ares, I’m not so sure. Stop.My legs primed to a halt and my ears pounded as my heart thu

Chapter Twenty-Eight: Markings and Revenge
Chapter Twenty- Eight Laila Pov I gasped out as the bitter girl knocked the air out of me, it was just a gentle push that had all the air sucked out from my lung. My eyes bared at the plain sky above me as my thoughts fought hard to make a deal of what I had just seen. Then she hovered above me with her signature wicked smile. I swallowed and tried to get up to my feet but my legs wouldn’t move, her feet had locked down on my knees and while I struggled she pressed down harder making me yell out in pain. Her boots mercilessly pressed against my leggings, ripping them and fiddling the skin around my knees. “Arg-argh-.” I groaned as she removed her legs from mine and she stepped back but then came back to me and hovered. “That’s what I like to hear, the groans of someone who is powerless and useless.” She started and chewed on her bottom lips again. I glanced down at my knees and stared at the bruise on it, there was a small gash on it. I returned back to the ground and calmed my b

Chapter Twenty-Nine: Don't trust anyone
Chapter Twenty-NineAtlas PovIt was halftime and a considerate of Prey’s has been found including Rachael, what surprised me was that Laila, was not yet back neither was Estelle or Desmond.“You’re worrying-” Ares said to me while i searched the incoming prey’s who had been recently captured.“She could be in danger” I responded. “And then what? You’re going to save her? What happened to letting her find out things for herself.” He said watching with me. Rachael found us and walked in our direction with a slight frown on her face.“what is the girl thinking?” She asked quietly. “Kevin said she rushed into the plains, that’s nuts.” She admitted and i sighed.“Its nuts but smart, she’s one of the rest who haven’t been caught.” Ares said comfortbly, he made a small tug with his brows. Neither of us said any more as Ayesha welcomed back the new set. Most of them were exhausted and had injuries which were already healing. They found their friends and smiled in groups as they conversed ab

Chapter Thirty: The final three
Chapter ThirtyKevin PovWhen Beta Atlas mind linked me to find Laila, i hurried back the paths to find her. I had seen her come back into the thick forest from where i scouted above but when i saw her with collins i had to figure something out before she got found. Now i was rushing farther away with her in my arms as Remy chased us, I wasn’t a fan of those three especially Estelle and Remy and i did my best to avoid them at all cost. Now Remy managed to find us even with me standing at the top of the tallest tree within the area.“Can’t we move unto the ground? Isn’t that better?” Laila asked as she held unto my back as i moved. “Not yet, unless you promise me that you’ll do exactly as i say.” I said to her and diverted down to the branches. Remy moved discreetly but i could perceive his scent, he was near and if i didn’t pick up my pace, he was going to get to us.“Fine-” I noticed that the scent from behind us was gone and i saw the chance to talk to her properly. I stopped at on
