Marcus's POVI stared at the glass window blankly.Lillian's face filled with bruises still lingers in my mind. When I heard a knock on my door I was pulled out from my thoughts and turned my swivel chair towards the door to see who it was.I saw Alice looking at me with a sweet smile plastered on her face."Hi," she greeted as she showed the paper bag she was holding."I brought us dinner, let's eat at the rooftop?" she invited.I smiled at her and then nodded my head.I fixed some of the files first before I walked towards her. I took the paper bag in her hands as she clung her arms to mine.Alice leans her head on me like she always does."How's your meeting with the investigator? Did he have any update about your Mom?" "Gabriel put her in a psychiatric hospital...five years ago. S-S he's dying according to my investigator,"Alice stopped walking and looked at me intently. Worry filled her eyes as she looked at me."I tried calling the psychiatric hospital but they refused to give

Lillian's POVIt's been three days since I received Marcus's message and up until now I am still waiting for the right time to meet him.I can't leave the White House since Alexander has been guarding me. He is watching my every movement and I know once I leave he will have me tailed."I will be gone for a week for campaign preparation. I will leave later this evening,"Happiness surged in my system when I heard his news. It seems like my prayer was heard. I had been waiting for this moment to happen.I wanted to smile and jump out of joy but I stopped myself from doing any of that because Alexander was watching me.I didn't show any emotion and just looked at him blankly. "Just tell me if you need my help,"He looked at me intently as if assessing if I meant saying those words but after a while, he nodded his head and continued drinking his coffee. It was a quiet breakfast. I let him mind his own business while I am busy feeding Amari.Once done eating he headed towards his office le

Lillian's POVI was caught off guard.Matthew looks like he already knows the truth so there is no point in denying it.Will he tell Marcus about Amari?I didn't voice out my thought but it seems like he can tell what is going on inside my mind."You are on the verge of downfall again Lillian," he said as he took a step closer and looked at me with his cold gaze. "Is that why you called Marcus? You will use Amari to save you from this mess?"I shook my head aggressively to deny his accusation. Using my daughter to get Marcus's help didn't cross my mind. All I want is for Amari to be safe...nothing more."I just want my daughter out of this chaotic place Matthew, that's all,"Instead of listening to my words he shook his head and let out a sarcastic laugh. He looked at me in disbelief refusing to believe the words I had uttered."You can't fool anyone here Lillian. I know you. You will do everything to save yourself even though it will wreck other people," he paused and looked at me fr

Lillian's POVI was released after giving my statement and the moment I stepped out of the police station I grabbed a taxi to bring me to Marcus's condominium. After a few minutes of driving the taxi finally stopped at a tall building where wealthy people live.I handed my fare to the driver and walked towards the building but before I could step in the guard stopped me."Excuse me Maam but we don't accept visitors-""It's okay Mr. Smith, I know her," It was Alice's voice who interrupted the guard and upon turning my head I was right. Alice is standing behind me."H-Hi," I awkwardly greeted. She didn't say anything and just passed by me and I had no idea if I should follow or not."Aren't you coming?" she coldly asked when she noticed I wasn't moving."Y-Yeah I'm sorry," I said and immediately followed her.I quietly walked behind her and the entire elevator ride was quiet."This way," she said the moment we stepped out of the elevator.I followed her until we stopped at the only roo

Lillian's POVOur life changed drastically and I don't know where to start. We left the White House, the place where I grew up.All of our properties were taken by the government. They froze all of our accounts and now I don't have any idea where I should get money to support our living expenses.Rose insisted on staying and helping me build a new life but I know she is also struggling financially. She has a family to support so I can't selfishly take her with me.But before she left she helped me find an affordable apartment where Amari and I could stay in the meantime. It was just a small apartment with one bedroom and a small kitchen but it's fine, I guess we can live here."Mommy I'm hungry," Amari said the moment she woke up.I smiled at her and gently caressed her face. "What do you want to eat?""Croissant," My smile faded because we didn't have that. It was a simple request but it weighed heavy because it made me realize that our life is indeed different from what we have bef
